Here's another fundamental mistake in my opinion...Posture.
I played badminton for 50 yrs and still am whacking the shuttles.
Perhaps do a video on the importance of posture for beginners and even intermediate players... That is if you agree with me.

The concepts and values here apply 1000% to all other fields. As a professional musician, I spent many of my early years feeling the “suck” and doubling down on the fundamentals to improve my music game. As for badminton, it took me a while to find some friends at the badminton gym who wanted to drill instead of play. Now I have a small group of partners who look forward to our drills. And you can tell it’s slowly causing some others to be a little jealous-you can tell that they would like to drill as well. 😃

Hey there, thanx for this video. You really hit the nail on the head! I can clearly see myself in some of those mistakes. One thing that is ever so important to mention: Getting the basics right and moving from there gets you much further than practicing some fancy shots you never get to use anyways b/c you lack the aforementioned.

Watching my own games over the pros really helped me for your point 2.
By comparing their techniques to mine I discovered what I had to unlearn and relearn in my weakest shots.. and its hard to break the decade old habits.
I would say with only average club time (4-5hours per week) you can only improve few areas during the season so it is best to focus on them consistently.
My biggest mistakes and the most time consuming ones was to play only matches during free time instead of doing some drills.
Focusing on winning instead of LEARNING is an universal flaw, in badminton this learning is however still an enjoyable process.
For a long time I did not progressed, not bc I couldn't learn, but bc I was distracted from my long term goal and once I realized that things changed quickly. (improving faster than my mates that they took notice).

Great advice! My serve is one of my strengths. I'm constantly practicing. If I don't it will become average. Serves help set-up winning rallies.
When I was a beginner, coach encouraged us to play additional sports (soccer; track, or cross country running). Why? For conditioning, team work, communication, & to take a break from badminton. He probably knew none of us had enough natural talent to make the national badminton team. He was correct! 😏 As a singles player, who also ran track, it definitely helped with my endurance on the court. Badminton training was still the hardest. Now that I play MD & XD at social clubs it is so much fun to play 2 against 1 when my partners' strings snap or they run off court. They mistakenly think I'm tired. Let's just say the longer the rally, the more of an advantage I get (our skills are equal).

  • @xyzcv5
    @xyzcv5 Před rokem +1

The first mistake I think can get so much more complicated. It's not just moving forward when people are forced to hit the shuttle from an awkward angle, but also about how players need to know how to position themselves according to the situation in general. For example, where to stand when the netshot was very tight or when it was not. It's certainly not something that can be squeezed into a 10 min video, but I feel like the first mistake should be less about 'not moving forward' and more about 'positioning appropriately according to how well the last shot was played'. I feel like once players understand this concept it's like an 'aha' moment and even if they don't have a 1 hour video to explain it to them, they will pay more attention to the positioning of the pro players when they watch them. I think this is a good video, but I'm also worried that some players could oversimplify things like how this video presents the first mistake. Afterall, many coaches still make new players train by making them move to all 4 corners and the players are expected to return to the base after every single shot, but In a game this is not really how people play badminton.

    hi Greg and jenny
I have bought a victor thruster f and while removing it's inner grips I have found that it has a wooden shaft handle which I find it's not proper as you explained in your review video u said it has a special plastic shaft
can u help me in finding whether it's is a genuine one or not through any kind of authentication like shaft number Or with something else
I hope you can spot me and give some hand in this

Hi there! That’s strange, it might have been a different batch - we also have some with wooden handles but most should be plastic. There is very minimal, if any, playing difference between them

I would say a big one is during matches gripping the racket to hard or being to stiff on the court especially when attacking
