Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a 1937 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures. Based on the 1812 German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, it is the first full-length traditionally animated feature film and the first Disney animated feature film. The production was supervised by David Hand, and the film's sequences were directed by Perce Pearce, William Cottrell, Larry Morey, Wilfred Jackson, and Ben Sharpsteen.
Snow White premiered at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles, California on December 21, 1937. Despite initial doubts from the film industry, it was a critical and commercial success and, with international earnings of more than $8 million during its initial release (compared to its $1.5 million budget), it briefly held the record of highest-grossing sound film at the time. The popularity of the film has led to its being re-released theatrically many times, until its home video release in the 1990s. Adjusted for inflation, it is one of the top-ten performers at the North American box office and the highest-grossing animated film. Worldwide, its inflation-adjusted earnings top the animation list.
Snow White was nominated for Best Musical Score at the Academy Awards in 1938, and the next year, producer Walt Disney was awarded an honorary Oscar for the film. This award was unique, consisting of one normal-sized, plus seven miniature Oscar statuettes. They were presented to Disney by Shirley Temple.
In 1989, the United States Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it as one of the first 25 films for preservation in the National Film Registry. The American Film Institute ranked it among the 100 greatest American films, and also named the film as the greatest American animated film of all time in 2008. Disney's take on the fairy tale has had a significant cultural effect, resulting in popular theme park attractions, a video game, a Broadway musical, and an upcoming live-action film.

"True love's kiss" is such a classic, innocent, magical concept... I hate that modern audiences consider it a crime. I think little girls understand what is a fairy tale and what is real life. I wish people would let kids stay innocent and child-like as long as possible.
I agree to an extent. But modern audiences do have it right. I mean, she was 14 and he was 31. That's illegal in itself. Just because something is more acceptable many years ago, doesn't mean it's acceptable by today's standards. True loves kiss is a beautiful and innocent concept, but in this scenario, it is actually really odd.

@@poppytaylor-digance6712 The girl's dead. Paying respects is commonplace, especially back then. Some may kiss on the head or cheek, but he wanted to marry her. He kissed her goodbye. "Today's standards" are irrelevant, this was done a century ago based off a story nearly a millennium old.
This is the exact problem with the entire idea of trying to shoehorn today's socio-political ideologies into historical fiction, art, mores, and ideas. These things stand the test of time with the depth of its appeal, message, and themes.
Meanwhile, the standards of today aren't something everyone finds appealing. And the stories created based on these ideas will likely fade into history while the originals will go on
20:06 The Prince kissing Snow White at the end isn't as strange as you might think. That is called a farewell kiss and is a final farewell and a way to show respect and honor to the departed.
The kiss is done on an open casket funeral and with permission of the deceased's loved ones or funeral director. Normally the kiss is done on the forehead or cheek, but there are occasions where it's been done on the lips, usually by the deceased's lover.

@@jacoreywilliams6406that's because a lot of extra scenes were removed, one of them being the prince was chained up in the castle by the step mother but it was removed for being too scary for children.
17:55 Disney originally had plans to have the Queen kidnap the Prince and lock him in the dungeon to keep him from reaching Snow White (he would then escape and join the Dwarves) - but they were having issues animating the Prince realistically and so his role became much more minimal. The plotline would be recycled for Sleeping Beauty however
Whoa! I heard about him being hard to draw, but I didn’t know that was gonna be a full scene for this movie!
I'm glad they did, leaving the dwarves her being the one chasing the witch while giving us the classic prince fighting the dragon in Sleepy Beauty. Besides Maleficent plan was even darker since she wanted to release him where he was very old and saving Aurora was too late (at least for living happily with her). Also I like that the prince kiss her to give her his last goodbye rather than doing it to break the spell.
I was just about to make a comment about this. I wish they could’ve kept the Prince in the film more, but as an animator myself, I completely understand.

This wasn't just Disney's first animated movie; this was THE first animated feature film, EVER. This was such a breakthrough film that introduced so many new techniques for animation.
I remember watching an interview with the original animators. One of the things that stayed with me was when he said that, at one point during the storyboarding part of the process (it was during Snow's frightened run through the forest) everyone in the room started asking if Snow would be okay. Then they all paused and looked at each other, because they realized that they were legitimately worried for a fictional character.

I hate to be um actually, but snow white wasn't the first feature length animation. There are around a handful before this film, like El Apóstol (1917) 70 minutes. But there were a lot of technologies at play with the Snow White film and it also captured the American imagination too

To be fair. Its effectivly a feature movie they just printed animation on top.
All the humans (and some of the animals, was filmed with 16mm film then protected on a glas plate where a artist use the source image to draw the cartoon. That is why the moment as smooth. This is also incredibly expensive. That is why some movments are repeated 2 or 3 times totaly identical.
When they did Robin Hood they was in budget crunch and they just recycled the raw material from djungle book.
For instance the dancing scean is frame by frame identical.

This was THE very first feature length animated film. I love that it’s a pure fairy tale that runs on emotions and innocence, but also like a fairy tale it has darker moments. It’s so interesting seeing the choices made with this movie knowing that Walt had no idea what he was creating.
Technically false. It is not the first feature length animated film. The honor for that goes to _El Apóstol,_ a 1917 Argentinian feature length cut-out animation, produced and directed by Quirino Cristiani.
However, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (SWatSD) was the first _Cel-animated_ feature film, meaning it was a series of drawings rather than puppet cut-outs. Additionally, SWatSD was also the first film to ever release the soundtrack separately apart from the movie.

While I don't dismiss the achievements of Quirino Cristiani and other early animators who produced or attempted to produce feature-length productions (I believe there are a few more), *Snow White* (1937) is certainly the first full-color animated feature film with synchronized sound. Now that Mell has watched it, I think it would be wonderful if his next reaction was to the second such film, *Gulliver's Travels* (1939), produced by Disney's rivals, the Fleischer Brothers.

Adriana Caselotti was the voice of Snow White. In 1934, at age eighteen, after begging her father to audition, she impressed Frank Churchill, the musical director by being able to sight read “Someday My Prince Will Come”, singing without hearing him play a single note on the piano. Walt Disney was listening, hidden behind a curtain, so he wasn't influenced by appearance. (first episode of "The Voice"!)The musical director was sure she he had found Snow White, but Disney auditioned 148 others before he agreed a year later. She saw no footage and she never heard playbacks of her songs, performing with no other actors on a soundstage, accompanied only by a piano. Paid $20 a day she made a total of $970. (Around $19,000 today) There were no voice credits on Disney's animated films until 1943, to preserve the illusion that the characters in his animation were real. ("Snow White" and "Prince Charming" had to sneak into the premier and hide from the usher) Walt didn't want Adriana "performing as Snow White" anywhere or doing any further film, TV, and radio work because he wanted to immortalize her iconic, recognizable voice as Snow White forever and never wanted it to be used for anything else, signing her to an exclusive contract and not using her again for many years, then only on a few promotional tours until she became too old for the kids in her mid-forties. Johnny Carson had her on his show in 1983 and she sounded exactly the same, including her singing voice!
So sad that she got no royalties when the success of Snow White paid for the 51 acres in Burbank still used by Disney.

The reason the movements look so good is because for a lot of these classic movies, they actually had the animators study real life models. I believe for this one the actress playing snow white did actually act out a lot of scenes in front of them, and they were able to study her movements and incorporate them into the animation.

The young girl that they studied was named Marjorie Belcher. She was a dancer who later married Gower Champion. They became a famous dance team in the 40s and 50s. Of course, he went on to become one of the most legendary director/choreographers in Broadway history.

It's sad when you realize Snow White went through all of this at 14. 14 YEARS OLD! The poor girl is still just a child. At 14, she lost her father, became a servant in her own castle just because her stepmother was jealous of her beauty which wasn't Snow's fault, was wanted dead by the woman who was supposed to take care of her and train her to be the future queen, had to run away into a deep dark forest when she's already scared as it is, and falls into a death-like sleep.
Dancing and singing with the dwarves was probably the first time in so long she's had fun. Sure, she sings with her animals friends back at the castle, but she's doing chores and constantly being watched by the queen. With the dwarves, she can dance and sing and laugh without fear. She feels safe and can finally be a kid.
A video editorial said it best. Snow White won't help a girl come out to her parents. But she will help a little girl overcome the sudden death of her parents. She was made when America was staring down the barrel of the Great Depression and World War Two; and was here to tell Americans that if they work hard, make themselves useful and whistle a happy song, they might get their happy ending.
I think that is one of the biggest problems when you look at all these remakes and all these reimagining of different movies. The people making them don’t have the context of the time when the film came out. They don’t understand how that time. Influenced why the movie was the way it was, and that’s why they can’t make it work in a modern context because it just doesn’t work in a modern context.
It's a fairytale, made WAY longer before the great depression. I wish people would stop pretending Disney didn't just yoink stories, you can literally let this story tell you what you want, including coming out, dealing with death, or just as a love story. It doesn't matter and I wish people would stop pretending it's anything other than a fairytale. Everyone's so serious these days.

ThereWillBeFudd yesss! That's one of the best videos on Snow White I've ever seen. I came back to it recently after all the controversy with this new actress playing SW in the live action remake.
This movie has no right being as good as it is at over 80 years old! So many people thought that this was going to a a huge flop at the time of its production - before this film, nobody had even heard of a full-length animated movie before! Walt had the last laugh - it made over $8 million worldwide in its initial release and jumpstarted the first golden age of Walt Disney Animation.

I actually enjoyed most of the movies from the 70s and 80s - at least I liked The Aristocats, 101 Dalmatians, The Rescuers, the Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood.
Rachel Zegler made it a big deal of the prince not saving Snow White when the prince was barely in the movie at all. She called him a stalker😭
Like, literally the one that saved her were the animals and the dwarves.
And it looks like Snow White was content living in the cottage with the dwarves. She wasn't actively looking for the prince and true love, she just happened to leave her home knowing her stepmother was a threat. She was technically homeless, and she loved where she was at with the dwarves. If the prince did not come, she would've still been happy living the rest of her days with them.

Rachel Zeigler is so caught up in herself and her ideals that she can't appreciate what came before her and recognize the greatness of this film and what it meant for the time it was created. If she doesn't learn some humility or even try to understand other people, her career is what will suffer. We're going to be fine because we still have the classic and many other films to enjoy and fall back on, because whether she likes it or not, the reality is the world does not revolve around her.
Thank you for watching this classic and giving the appreciation it deserves.

More than her skin color being pure snow white...it was tye character of her heart that was pure snow white, which the Queen could never imitate. This is why we remember Snow White and pass it down to our children. Something this new actress can't as well which disqualifies her.
I've worked in the animation industry for 8 years, and it still astounds me how this masterpiece was created using, by today's standards, primitive animation technology.

@@stpierreoramait does exist, just not in the US, for some reason. Look at Japan and you will find 2D animation everywhere. Additionally, when a cartoon gets made into a movie, it tends to be 2D animated.
If you mean why not hand drawn, first it is very time consuming: you have to draw a background cel, then a movement cel, and finally a foreground cel. That is three separate drawings, and each one may change drastically frame to frame, so there tends to be a lot of redrawing. This makes it expensive as a result. Finally, it usually takes a whole crew of people to even do one scene, let alone a whole movie. While also true for CGI and digital animation, at least people specialize in certain digital interfaces or characters or scenes, rather than having a lot of people working on one scene only.
@@stpierreorama Disney had a lot of man hours dedicated to these and it could take over a year to do a single movie. There were animators for each specific thing.

@@MusicalInquisitadditionally the faster rendering of CGI and models allowed the teams to tweak scenes almost instantaneously, allowing them to fix movements and placing quicker, even though they already work with storyboards as their main guide. That's definitely something that not only took time but crushed many of the OG Disney animators with such demanding deadlines and physical work sitting at their drawing stations. They absolutely loved and were passionate about the work they did but got severely punished both physically and mentally with the demands.
It's really a shame how Disney no longer makes 2d animated films, they're so beautiful and lovely, and what's even worse is that most of these modern remakes tend to look down on them.
This modern take started in the university classrooms. I recall taking grad level literature courses and the desire to break apart classics was extreme. Everyone one found fault with the original stories, and praised the "updated" stories in which the female characters are the rescuers of a dumb male characters. That or they are simply indifferent or annoyed with the male characters.
Over time, the idea spread that the prince in these stories were evil predators who were stalkers and grape-ists.
I recall when the great debate was about the Prince in Snow White committed SA on the sleeping princesses because -- get this -- they couldn't Consent to being kissed.
Under a curse put upon them by Another female character, but the male character is a pervert for Rescuing the princess.
As the Wicked Witch of the West said, "What a world. What a world..."
Fun fact: the actress who played the Evil Queen had difficulties on voicing the elderly version. So she stepped out of the room for a bit, and once she came back to try again, she did it just as wanted. And all she did was remove her dentures! Such a great classic. You should watch Alice in Wonderland, Mulan, Anastasia, and even though it came out this year, Elemental

This one's always had a special place in my heart.. mostly because Snow White is such an extraordinarily kind and resilient girl for such a young age. She embodies the lady-like qualities I always wanted to have- even as an adult :p

In the original story of Snow White, the Prince doesn't kiss her. He comes to take her body to be buried, and the people carrying her body trip and drop her body, causing her to vomit up the apple. I think they just didn't want to animate that lol
They also didn't have the queen dance in red-hot iron shoes until she died for the amusement of Snow White's wedding guests 😂
Maybe those scenes will be in the remake.
Or the queen eating the boiled seasoned boar's organs the huntsman served her thinking snow white is out of the picture.
Snow White is said to be 14 in this movie. So her innocence makes sense.

19:48 the prince showed up because snow white was singing into a "wishing well" for her "true love to find me today" he heard her singing and shows up finishing her song.
We can assume because it's a fairy tale that the wishing well actually grants wishes and her wish was granted that day.
Nothing and I mean NOTHING beats the Walt Disney Productions era of animation. They really set the stage.

I was watching this a few years ago with my daughter, and she was REALLY enjoying it, and it struck me, that this movie is almost 100 years old.
And then it hit me at what an amazing job they did with the animation....just blew me away all over again!
Walt understood children. Their innocence and trust in the world around them, and he sought to make the childhoods of millions of children a magical place.. as childhood should be. He captured that all in this movie, and the ones that followed. Which is why it is timeless…because children be children be children, whether it is 1937 or 2024. The modern day Disney Corporation don’t get that, they’ve lost their heart. Walt Disney made this animated film, and Disneyland as a gift for children.
If you want to watch a Disney made animation that IS 100 years old look up the original Alice Comedy shorts. The first short was animated by Disney when he was at Laugh O Gram in Missouri 100 years ago. It is impressive considering that it was made during the silent era and features what might be the first animators cameo. It’s on CZcams for free because even though it’s Disney it’s public domain.
There are so many movies, even ones by Disney, that are so explicitly outdated that you can’t help but cringe at the messed up attitudes we used to have. The “What Makes the Red Man Red” song from Peter Pan being a VERY strong example. The fact that Snow White, being as old as it is, STILL manages to be a solid, fantastic movie that isn’t weighed down by things like that speaks to just how truly timeless it is. It’s a miraculous film in much the same way The Wizard of Oz is. Absolutely stunning. ❤️

As for the kiss at the end, the Prince kissed her because he was saying goodbye. He didn’t know true love’s kiss would wake her.
On my Disneyland story record, the narrator said that the Prince kissed her because he was "charmed by her beauty."
Something cool to know! Her makeup is actual makeup. Back in the 30s, they could not find a color red/pink dark enough to show up on the work as they were animating, so the women involved just used their own lipstick and blush.
The funeral scene was the true test of the idea that animated films could move audiences. It made audiences cry back then and still does today.

So when you asked about the antidote, the queen was thinking the dwarves would bury her thinking she’d be dead, not in a deep death like sleep.

Even the movie addressed how the prince was a bit creepy to just suddenly appear to a lady like he did, but it's not like that made him evil or a stalker. Snow White got through the initial fright and warmed up to him after the prince was simply humbly charming.
I though that they knew each other as children since they were royalty of neighbouring kingdoms. The evil Queen is her stepmother so in order ro become a queen she must have married the king and king must be Snow Whites father. So they probably already knew each other, at least from a distance.

Mel, it's crazy you saw the castle and wondered 'why is it in the sky? Did she really die?' Cause that's an actual theory!:
The theory goes that prince is actually Death. Doves symbolize the soul, so during their love song in the beginning, when Snow White sends the dove to the prince it represents Snow White giving her soul away to Death. The Prince's arrival to see Snow White is him preparing to take Snow White to the afterlife cause the Queen is already planning to kill Snow White. That's why he shows up ay the very end, he's taking her soul to Heaven, represented by he castle in the sky. Some people who like this theory also say that the goodbyes exchanged between Snow White and the dwarves almost seem like a final goodbye, like they know she's going to heaven and won't see her again, so even if it's goodbye they're happy for her.

There's another theory involving Dopey! The dwarves took him in thinking he was another dwarf but the fact he doesn't speak and acts very childlike has people theorize he's a human child and eventually grows up and leaves the dwarves and becomes Geppetto, the puppet maker who creates Pinocchio. Geppetto has light blue eyes and a nose similar to Dopey, and supposedly modeled Pinocchio after how he imagines a child parented by him and Snow White would've looked like.

I always enjoyed snow white bc she was the only princess that looked exactly like me and it makes me upset how they wanna ruin a beloved classic that literally saved Disney from collapsing, not every animated movie has to be made into live action. Also sad fact Adriana Caselotti the voice actress of Snow White wasn't allowed at the movie premiere due to her having a unique voice, you could tell she played Snow White. Adriana never complained about that and couldn't audition for other roles, if that was me I would be very upset

For this reason, he doesn’t axknowledge the voice actors in the credits and pretty much wouldn’t let Adriana work after this film, unless she was uncredited or not noticeable. They weren’t even allowed to attend the premiere! But Harry Stockwell (the prince) and Adriana snuck in. She can only be heard saying “Wherefore Art Thou, Romeo?” in The Wizard Of Oz’s If I Only Had a Heart. She was also a bar singer in It’s A Wonderful Life, but she’s heard in the background in a group of other singers. Both uncredited roles, because that’s as far as Walt would allow her to work after Snow White.
I’m 37 years old and still to this day, I watch all the Disney classics.

I look at the kiss this way: If I was essentially in a coma and the only way out was for someone to kiss me, even if it was Rosie O'Donnell I would accept that kiss. It wasn't without consent because she would have consented had she been given the option. It only even worked because it was true love's kiss. Implying they both already loved each other.
for me, i saw it as a last kiss- like something you do at a funeral to your loved one. he clearly was mourning directly afterwards too, it was just a moment to show that he does love her and he's saddened by her death.

Yes the live action Cinderella is actually really good. They got a lot of flack when it first came out but that's just because everyone just wants to hate everything. But it was actually really good. Well written and had really good actors and actresses and had a little bit more background information about Cinderella's parents. It was really sweet.
Yes. It is the best live action Disney adaptation. It is one of my top two favorite Cinderella movies (Ever After, is the other one).👍

So...Disney achieved the human realistic movement by having actors and actresses act out the scenes. Before that cartoons were pretty noodly. In fact, whenever they wanted to acheive realistic movements of any characters, they did live studies. If you get the DVDs with extras they sometimes show the models.

I love Snow White as an art form. This was the first full-length traditionally animated feature! Ever! People in the business thought Disney was crazy trying to make a full-length animated movie. He took a huge risk to make it, and it changed the history of animation/cinema forever!
Walt Disney attended a dinner party at William Hearst’s summer home (Hearst’s Castle) and asked Hearst if he could play a movie he’d made for the rest of the guests (Hearst’s home theater is literally a full theater in his home). Hearst was concerned knowing Walt made cartoons, but agreed. The guests loved the movie so much that Walt decided to release it to the public. This was that movie. Walt was worried if adult audiences would be able to enjoy a feature length animated film, since cartoons were typically very short and intended for children. Hearst’s dinner party was his test run. The rest is History.
I dealt with the early onset of arthritis from an early age and so I've always looked at the early animation work at Disney with just this awe and amazement at this being hand drawn and hand painted with no CGI or aid from computers. Its almost inconceivable to me that something this beautiful could result. It truly is an achievement and I wish I could be in the place of those seeing this for the first time in 1937 when it would have been unheard of to see such a thing

Technically false. It is not the first feature length animated film. The honor for that goes to _El Apóstol,_ a 1917 Argentinian feature length cut-out animation, produced and directed by Quirino Cristiani.
However, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (SWatSD) was the first _Cel-animated_ feature film, meaning it was a series of drawings rather than puppet cut-outs. Additionally, SWatSD was also the first film to ever release the soundtrack separately apart from the movie.
Snow white was always my favorite Disney princess movie as a kid I admittedly always cried during this movie 😂
It’s so interesting that Walt opened his first film with the villain. The establishing shots of her castle throughout the movie really remind me of the intro shot of Bald Mountain in Fantasia.
It's funny, I don't really remember much about the voice actress who played Snow White
but she was chosen for her "very youthful/joyful" singing. But if I had the chance to pick the
other actress before her, I would because her singing voice was angelic AF.

Snow White's voice was done by Adrianna Caselotti. Her father was a local opera singer and voice coach who was called in to consult. Disney wanted someone who could sing high trills and sound sweet while talking. Mr. Caselotti brought his young daughter with him to the studio and she piped up saying, "Oh, I can do that!" so Disney arranged an audition and she got the part.

I have been so confused as to why they don't create movies from all the absolutely amazing stories from other cultures, stories that a vast majority don't know, and create new "princesses". They've done a few, and they have been awesome, so I don't know why they feel the need to "recreate" classics instead of creating whole *new* classics. They are losing money when they can be making it. Crazy.
Because Fairytales are usually not fleshed out enough to justify it or just variations of these typical ones. It’s not hard to see why adapting stories from specific cultures doesn’t always work. Mulan was a success but China HATED it. It just isn’t easy to do it.
@@busankinqs7572 And I do get that, but I can't help but think with some work and some key advisors, there are stories out there that can be done respectfully and really well. The European fairytales they've adapted haven't necessarily stuck to the originals, either, but have managed to still be respectful and engaging. I guess I've just heard and read some wonderful stories from around the world, and would love to see them set to film. But maybe right now isn't the best time to hope Hollywood gets a hold of them, considering some of the work being cranked out of the studios.

Fun fact: In 1937 , Disney had to mortgage his own house in order to finance this movie. The final budget for the film was 1.4 million dollars and it grossed it in the box office for 418 million dollars.

I cancelled it early this year, but it was super interesting seeing stuff I'd never seen before in such pristine quality. I'd never seen Lady and the Tramp, and I think that movie will blow your mind as it did mine with how good it looks, in *cinema scope!*
Walt Disney had his artists attend anatomy classes so that the animated characters moved realistically and this was the first animated anything to offer such realism to its audiences.
For the time it was extremely mind blowing!
This isn’t a movie we watched together, but this movie obviously reminds me of my great-grandmother because of how old it is. She was 92 when she died and by default I associate this with her. She was a human being of course but she was always such a pure light of our lives and for everyone in our family and out, just like how pure and innocent this movie and fairy tale is. Death looms over this movie especially because of the sleeping death, and the catharsis of seeing the Dwarves celebrating her alive and well is so heartwarming. That last shot, like you said, feels a lot like a vision of heaven. So it’s like this movie, for me, is some sort of portal to look into the afterlife and heaven, and what waits for us beyond this life. And it’s a way for me to connect with my great grandmother again in a way.
It’s a weird way to associate the movie with a loved one, but it does it for me. That’s why I can’t really watch it casually, just every now and then.
Seriously great reaction, I would recommend Sleeping Beauty 1959 it's an artistic masterpiece for real and definitely a must if you are planning on watching Maleficent.
Great reaction! The funny thing is that the Prince didn't really save her, all he did was come in at the end and kiss her. If anything the dwarves saved her cause they pursued the Evil Queen, they did all the work.
I love the fact that you can get so roped in to a movie especially for the first time or even if you’ve seen it several times like I have to this day I still get chills and a little emotional once grumpy breaks and actually cries over snow white and it’s cool that you brought that idea of when she wakes up and rides up with the Prince that was a theory thrown around that she actually died and that’s what she was experiencing her dream coming true.
it's grumpy's shaky breathing that makes me cry every freakin time! also, yeah, to paraphrase what there will be fudd said in his video- a generation that watched their parents work themselves to death would find deeper meaning in a girl being carried away by a silent figure on a white horse to a glowing castle in the sky.
A great irony of the film that I can never stop marvelling at is that, although the Queen creates it and gives it to her as a means of killing her, the "Magic Wishing Apple" actually works as advertised for Snow White. She wishes for Prince Charming to come and carry her off to his castle in the clouds, and from her perspective, that is the very next thing that happens to her after she bites the apple.

Snow White is just one of those Disney movies that just captures you, especially when you just relax and enjoy. But my favorite song is the Silly song, the beats for all the Snow White songs are on point.
You can tell the film was influenced by horror films of the time. The way Snow White reacts to all the imagined frights in the forest, the transformation of the queen, and the pursuit up the mountain in the rain feel lifted out of Dracula, Island of Lost Souls, Frankenstein and so on. I'm guessing this is why Snow White's "death" is shown only with her hand, because it's more effective and unsettling.

I suspect that the animators found it impossible to animate Snow White collapsing to the floor in a way that didn't seem awkward.
I used to have Snow White on VHS and I played it on my 10" TV in my bedroom when I wasn't feeling well and stayed home from school. It means a lot to me.
Snow White is such a delightful and visually stunning film. Snow White herself may be naive and gullible, but that's because she's a young sheltered girl with a kind heart who only sees the best in others. She's such a lovely and kind person. Her kindness really affects the viewers just as much as the dwarves.

This movie has stood the test of time for nearly a century and paved the way for the future of film. I'm personally an advocate for animated films being eligible for the best picture oscar, and how Snow White didn't win in 1937 is probably one of the oscars biggest mistakes. Either way, I'd still say Snow White isn't just a movie, it's one of histories greatest works of art alongside the Mona Lisa and Last Supper.

Either way, should Snow White had been nominated and won best picture in 1937, it would have paved the way for other animated films to be nominated and win, like Bambi, Lion King, Wall-E and Wolfwalkers. That alternative timeline is nice to think about.
for being almost 90 years old it still holds up pretty well. there are a few things that could be changed but overall its a pretty good movie.

I watched Snow White again recently after many years. Just as good as I remember. I didn't expect to cry. I knew what would happen, but, I cried anyway. That's how powerful this movie is, man. Disney animation back in the day actually inspired anime to become a thing and be really big in Japan before eventually being introduced to the west. I think Astro Boy was inspired by Disney style characters back then

When this premiered Walt was so nervous audiences wouldn’t like it, and the actor Clark Gable and so many others cried when Snow White died. Walt wanted audiences to really feel all the emotions of his characters and it was a triumph. Years later Walt said “I know I’ll never make anything better than Snow White.” Also, I consider One Song to be the most romantic Disney love song ever, and I love how the actor sang it

The evil queen said she didn't have to worry about true love's kiss, because she was sure the dwarfs would bury her alive. Just to point it that scene out, but i'm on the same point that it was weird that the prince would kiss her.
Then again when you take note on the even older tale the prince actually had his men carry the coffin away to his palace and the piece of apple stuck to her throat was lodged off when the coffin fell. Also in that tale the evil queen was sent a invitation to snow whites wedding and died because she was forced to dance in a pair of glowing red iron shoes...

The very first Disney movie still holds up. Not a lot of people like the these days because compared to today’s films, it can be kind of boring. While I don’t disagree with that, I think it should be respected a little more.
my problem with the new snow white (amongst many other things) is that it's "trying to be woke" while simultaneously being problematic in its production lol like they can't be trying to claim that they're putting this feminist twist on the movie while also being ableist with the way they're portraying the dwarves LOLOL like the math isn't mathing
