    My almost teenage daughter is slowly building her little library with the classics. Our local library always has a used book sale every quarter. We found Anne of the Island for $2 dollars and a Louisa May Alcott book called Rose in Bloom (1934 print) for $8 dollars. You can find hidden gems at your local library, you should check to see if the city libraries near you offer the same thing. Happy antiquing 😊

    the reason the stove drip pans would be wrapped in aluminum foil was to either cover the old drip pans that was built up with whatever had been dripped in them over time, or my momma would cover hers to keep from having to clean the drip pans. When the aluminum foil got built up with spatters of grease and other foods, she just took off the dirty aluminum foil and put on a clean one. And by covering the center hole, she could catch the liquid boil over. I did the same with my stove, when I married and moved into my own home. Aluminum foil was cheaper than replacing the drip pans. In the older ovens, we would put aluminum foil on the floor of the oven, for the same reason. That went a long way to prevent cleaning the bottom of the oven. These newer oven manufacturers say NOT to put anything on the bottom of their ovens.

    When we lived in Ohio we lived in an old 1800s house. We had shutters like that but they are for the inside kind of like blinds. So if you use them on your coop (SUCH A CUTE IDEA!!) you may want to treat them with a waterproof stain or something so they don’t fall apart on you.

    Wishing you the best of luck on your Anne series find! I just read the first Anne of Green Gables last month- and I had thrifted the full box set in person, so I have high hopes there’s one out there for you.📚 I loved the imagery and appreciation of nature and the present moment and imagination, I loved how sweet Matthew always was, and how Marilla softened to Anne. I have no idea what the next 7 books will tell! I find it so fun reading classics for the first time as an adult. It’s like I’m finally getting in on the secret.💚

    Strawberries already?!? so lucky! Up here in cold NY, we won't have strawberries until the end of June. So exciting to have chickens. I couldn't live without mine. Just added two silver laced Wyandotte - a variety I have not had. I have ones with feathers on their feet, beards, huge pompadours (Polish variety), and all different colors of feathers. green, blue, lavender eggs! I am CRAZY about chickens. Just got 4 turkey poults, too and have 30 eggs in my incubator! Those shutter will be a cute accent to your coop. introduce us to your flock LOL

    • @pattyhansen7563
      @pattyhansen7563 Před měsícem

      @@homewithkelli Not only is hatching my own eggs a blessing & self sufficient, but it is reminder of God's amazing creation. you cannot watch a baby chick hatch out of an egg & not feel joy & mystification. It doesn't matter how many times I watch it happen, it amazes me every time. I am like a little kid on Christmas morning! Matthew 18:2-5 3 "And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." One thing that makes me joyful is that even tho I have many 'dents & dings' from life, I have not lost my childlike wonder at small things. Think about a tadpole, see a seed sprout, or watch a worm dig back into the ground & who could deny God's existence????

    Hi Kellie ! Loved this video !! I was wondering what your thoughts are on lead being a very common thing in vintage kitchen wear? For example I have read that it was used in plates , cups and bakeware with patterns ? I would love to know what you/others think about this topic. I’ve just seen a few things here and there so want to do a little more digging before I stop thrifting beautiful vintage kitchen wear 😢!

    • @homewithkelli
      @homewithkelli  Před měsícem +3

      Hi Jacqueline, funny you ask because I actually recorded my thoughts about this in this video because another listener reached out to me about this recently (I've had people reach out about this since 2021). I ended up taking it out of the video when editing because I didn't want to give any air time to lead safe mama - the blogger who induces these fears, because I completely disagree with her and personally believe is a grifter and fear mongerer. .
      Here was my response to the other listener recently:
      " I've had listeners reach out to me in the past about her and I did a lot of research on her website a few years back. I have come to the conclusion that I don't agree with most of what she shares, including her fear based tactics with lead. She has said many times in blog posts that this is her full time job, she is the sole provider for her family, therefore, I think it's safe to say, she needs people to keep coming back to her about this, having her do tests on things, buying from her amazon shop of things she deems safe- I personally find her to be a grifter and fear mongerer.
      Another reason I disagree with her is, she has stated in her blogs, that her journey to "discovering the issues with lead" came from health issues with her children. Meanwhile, she has said she has v@cc*inat*d- which for me would be my first concern (something put directly into the body!) and celebrated her husband was able to get the c*v-d v@cc*n*.... again my concern would be what are you putting into the blood brain barrier over "lead" in vintage products.
      And another reason I don't agree with her, I have done 2 Hair Mineral Test Analysis, last year and the year before, and they show lead results and I haven't had any issues with lead and I've been using vintage products for years. I think everyone will have to come to their own peace and decisions with these things, this is just where I've landed. I do appreciate your thoughtfulness with this!"

    Baker Creek does stock some heirloom Tabasco pepper seeds once in a while. Sometimes they have them, sometimes they don’t tho. I’m pretty sure I did see them earlier this season.
    That’s neat that you found some at a local nursery!!
    My friend struggled with her pepper starts this year too and ended up buying all new seeds. We got ours the same year from Baker Creek and almost all of mine came up good. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So strange! I’m so thankful for Azure and being able to purchase plants. I need to order a Cayenne on my next order because they take forever to grow from seed!
