"Sometimes the riff is just so fucking good that you just want to hear it over and over and over again........sometimes for 52 minutes." Absolutely one of the best comments I have heard...ever. ^m^
except that comment is fucking stupid - i mean, i don't know music, but sleep changes between like 3/4 and 4/4 time and all kinds of crazy shit in this song. the same dork said the mystique behind the release is part of the appeal of this song, let me tell you my brain that has listend to dopesmoker and jerusalem thousands of times does not give a shit about mystique. 4/10 knowledgeable expert comment
i think what he is trying to say is that the deepest the grunge/heavy rock scene that was displayed to people for a long time was bands like nirvana. in those terms, I can understand. had people known about Sleep, we'd have a whole generation of bong huffing caravans to the holy land.
Nah they probably spent like 10k, only custom amps they bought was al's custom electric amp bass amps who he sits in front of in the video, what made them custom was preamp and power (slave) amp units being separated and it having 180 watts instead of GT120s 120, not to mention 2x15 and 4x12 cabs, that's the same rig he uses on early Om
Re. Neurosis, I saw _Enemy of the Sun_ live in '94 and it's still one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Like Michael Gira (Swans) said: "I saw them live a couple of times and it was like watching Samurai warriors in preparation for attacking a village or something, it’s so intense."
Justin Marler left sleep after they recorded vol. 1 and went on to become an Orthodox Christian monk and founded death to the world magazine. You can see the influence this had on some of the band members later work if you look at the band OM, incorporates a lot of themes, imagery, and terminology from orthodoxy, albeit mixed in with influences from other faiths.
Tim Silbereis Years ago when I cut this, I also cut this: czcams.com/video/x29j6ASmak0/video.html This should reinforce your point, Side C basically starts anew.
One other thing I think they forgot to mention in this clip is that had to have all their amps in a separate room with the mics because they were too loud
Call it sacrilege, but I like the Jerusalem mix and the main reason is that you can hear Chris Hakius' snare drum better, and his beats are so fucking primal on this track - Even the new 2023 mix does not have his snare up high enough. Jerusalem goes good in the car and Al's bass is heavier/more prominent in that mix as well
"Mixed by: David Sorry" how many of you had thought about a situation like that: - Oh man, i'm sorry... - Yes you are. I think it happens with the guy day by day and it could be driving him crazy haha

"well the weed parts...totally true"
Dopesmoker is such an awesome album. One of the greatest doom riffs I have ever heard.
The way the bass and drums play around the riff too… incredible song
Heavier than planets!
Thank you so much for uploading this. May God bless and keep you.

The guy says dopesmoker is the same riff for 52 minutes? It actually sound to me like it could easily be divided into several different songs.

+OtterWater528 I really hope you're kidding. I'm a painter and if someone cut up one of my pieces, I'd probably kill them
@@Gorkrustisgood are you still painting?
Bong huffing caravan through the holy land..... I will be incorporating that phrase into my personal, as well as professional life.

"Mixed by: David Sorry"
how many of you had thought about a situation like that:
- Oh man, i'm sorry...
- Yes you are.
I think it happens with the guy day by day and it could be driving him crazy haha
Enjoy both, Nirvana isn't time wasted imo
DOPESMOKER!!!!
I wondered this too. It's apparently a song written especially for the movie by some company.
Yea I saw the movie. Anyway thank s for anserw
4:17 and all sorts of stuff...
when lori says "I remember the scene in san francisco in the 90s being..." which band does she name after neurosis?
The Melvins
Grotus
How is that bass sound achieved at the start of the video?
Anguish maybe?
Grotus
thank you ive never seen the name written down
The very first one or dragonaut?
7:30 is that pilgrimage
So is the edited version the 52 minute one or the hour and 3 minute long one?
The 52 minute is the edited one. The 63 minute version is the unedited, original mix.
Damn what’s that first track? Shit rips
Listen to every Sleep song. It’s worth it
Any ties to Electric Wizard ?
They definitely influenced them a bit
what song sounds at the very begining? it is not dopesmoker
what s name of song at the bigin?
would you say the same about Sabbath? Who cares-Nirvana was also a good band, fuck their popularity
i mean when lori from acid king talks about san francisco bands. its not Jerusalem
