FYI, for your safety remove a wheel and slide it under the car to prevent it from smashing you if your $40 stands crumble.
Thanks for the install tips and link to the Downpipe. got mine installed today and am loving it.
Awesome man!!!!
You made this look easy
The dealer was gonna charge me $1000.00 just to put a new clamp on but now I have the courage to do it myself
Taja&Chris Glad it helped! I would definitely say clamping the V-band back down was the hardest part of the hole process. I would recommend using a pry bar to help push the clamp back down around the exhaust. Definitely a doable project.
Hey Mr. Johnson.. Man I appreciate all your videos. You've helped me more than you will ever know. Always been somewhat nervous about doing things myself until I actually see how your approach certain mods. On this occasion I am going to install a RVG downpipe. Again because I saw your video I'm going to tackle it myself. I just went muffler delete. For me the drone was a bit much between 2500 and 3000 rpm, so last week I ordered Valvetronic mufflers. Should be delivered mid next week. Now in your vid you went catless. I've seen a couple articles about rvg's catted with all good reviews. Also I happened to speak to Valentine at RVG (who sold me a 6wb cluster coded to my vin), and he made it clear that the power difference between the catted and catless is minimal, but I was worried about the fumes, so I'll try catted. Still the price is way less than half of other brands but like you said the build quality is great, so why not??
I've got a 2013 535i m sport and my only mods are k&n cold air, HPS charge pipe, and MHD tuner with the full license. Other than Burger Tuning wheel spacers, and a small trunk spoiler everything on the outside is stock. Would love to either go coil overs, or springs for a small drop, but that my friend is something I won't attempt myself.
I know you kept the 6wb cluster and I totally understand. They make a world of difference with day to day driving. Did you put the Bimmer8 speed limit emulator on yours? I did. They are surprisingly accurate, and it adds a nice touch to the cluster.
After seeing you change you steering wheel I did the same. I found a nice M5 tri stitched with paddles on Ebay. A bit pricey, but well worth it especially since I too didn't have paddles on my m sport wheel, but luckily mine was already wired for it.
Anyway I've written way more than you probably care to read, but again I just wanted to thank you for all your knowledge and the time you put into your videos helping guys like myself..
Take care!
Thanks for your support! Sounds like your mods are coming along nicely. Nice choice on the Catted DP, I love mine.
glad it turned out well!
Thanks!
Thanks for the help sir. This whole video i was just hoping this car didn't fall, being its only held by a jack. All that tugging and pulling you really need something under the car, just in case. But thanks for this, now I know I can do it by myself.
Glad it helped! Also, I used the Jack as extra support. The car was on 4 Jack stands as well.
Thats awesome bud!
Thanks man! Hope my car can grow up to be as clean as yours some day. Lol!
Hey bro, F07 owner here, thanks for the video first, and second, you need a creeper! $30 at harbor freight will make jobs under the car too damn easy
Lol! I have a creeper. I just donât use it, because the car isnât high enough in the air.
That looked super easy to do! I put catless downpipes on my 2016 650i xdrive gran coupe and it was a pain in the ass! But very worth it to go to stage 2!
Yeah it really wasnât a bad install. I bet it was worth it to go stage 2. Whatâs your approximate hp numbers?
@@JohnsonMotorsports I believe about 620 hp and 650-660 lb ft of torque. My 0-60 is 3.8 but my 1/4 mile is 11.5 @ 115 mph.
@@JamesBrown-wz8tm Man! You have a beast!!!!
@@JohnsonMotorsports Yeah buddy! She's a fast girl for weighing 4600 lbs! My tune is from AMR PERFORMANCE. But come spring I'm going to a full custom tune from Heatsync Performance Euro. The guy has his 650i on CZcams running 10.9 @ 126 mph! He was telling me on the E30 tune, I'll walk a Hellcat on the highway!!!
o2 sensors cannot connect to the wrong one. Painters tape still a great idea just to be certain.
Great video! I just subscribed to your channel. Question, are you planning on getting a intake for your F10??
FreakyyTheOne Thanks! Yeah, I m planning on picking one up, just not sure which one.
Dope vid. I have a 535i with m sport exhaust. I ordered a 200 cell downpipe. This video will help me instal it.
Glad I could help. I recently just installed a new RVG Highflow catted Downpipe.
â@@JohnsonMotorsportshey any reason you went from the catless to a catted?
@billymattu To get rid of the exhaust smell.
@@JohnsonMotorsports ah man that's literally the one thing holding me back. I don't want the car to smell too strong of exhaust. I have a 1970 mustang... I don't mind that car smelling of raw fuel/exhuast. But not really wanting this car to smell bad. But also might go stage 2 in the future(so ill have to do something with the downpipe and also an upgraded intercooler)
Yeah, if you donât want the exhaust smell, definitely go with the high flow catted downpipe. I love my new RVG one.
Grey is the down stream O2, black is the upstream. That does not look like a fun job! Lol you will love mhd stage 2 plus, I run mine on the 95 oct map with e 30 ish.. like 3 or 4 gallons of e85. Have fun man!!!
BrowBMW It was a little tight. Lol
NiCe đ€© NiCe đ€©đŻ
Grant first off great videos and I just bought the downpipe from your contact so thank you for doing this but I I'm curious why didn't you change the O2 sensors with new ones while you were doing the DP?
Because Iâm cheap. Lol! I have since added O2 spacers, however my O2 seem to be working fine at the moment. I need to flash tune soon though, with adding the DP you will get a check engine light regarding O2 readings, itâs due to the 2nd O2 sensor not seeing a reduction in emissions due to the cat being removed.
@@JohnsonMotorsports haha....well you are doing a ton of work on it so it's looking good. The MHD tune will get rid of any O2 sensor related issues once I flash to stage 2. Keep this vids coming. Thanks again for replying
Great video man⊠that bolt that was rusted on do you know the name of that clamp I want to replace it on mine itâs rusted to the point where I think itâs going to break.
Man, itâs been a while since I did this. Are you referring to the V-band clamp.
Its only 1 test pipe necessary? its no smell inside the car?
Yeah, only 1 downpipe on the 535i. Yeah, you will definitely have more gas smell in the car. Mine smell is better with the E85, but not gone.
Had you had any issue with the RGV since you install it ? I was looking at the Evolution Raceworks but it's double the price.
No issues at all! It's really just a pipe, I would save the money.
wba5b1c52ed482612 thats my vin, really confused on which one I need, can you clarify? 535 2014 f 10
I live in pa where emissions is done every year that being said mine has to have a cat,any recommendations
Unfortunately no. Iâve never had to look into that.
I wanna order a downpipe for my bmw, 2011 535i. Do I just email them from description?
Michael Cowley Yes, shoot him an email and he will take care of you.
Hey grant my car jerks when I let go of gas rpms go up and the car shakes, I have stage 2 mhd tune with catless downpipe and charge pipe. My shop told me it is the tune and that itâs normal but it donât feel normal at all for me. It literally shakes when I let go of gas in traffic , then stops when I press on it. Any idea ?
So have you tried flashing back to stock and seeing if the shaking and other issues persist?
@@JohnsonMotorsports no bro Iâm scared cuz I heard you canât run a stock tune wit catless dp. I also noticed last night it stops when Iâm in manual mode
You could pass inspection with a catless dp if the 02 sensors are in ?
I honestly donât know. My state did away with annual emissions inspections 20 years ago. We do whatever we want. Lol!
Nice job! You gonna do a 7 inch intercooler and cold air intake filters before the stage 2 tune? I cleaned my Burger air filter and MAF air flow sensor today, hoping my code and check engine light go away. Did my VRSF turbo chargepipe already. Down pipe next.
I already installed the RVG Performance FMIC and a custom intake. I did a video on the FMIC install. Iâm currently running a Jb4 with MHD BEF on E40.
How long do you recon the whole job took you? Trying to get a quote for the install and want to know how many hours it took.
Downpipe install took around 2 hours with video recording. I've swapped them out a few times now, so I could probably do the job in around an hour.
Can this downpipe work on2016 528i
and would u recommend it ?
I love the downpipe, but as far as I know it wonât work on your car.
Get one made for your car. If you didnât know that, I worry about you doing it yourself. đ
Nice rims
Thanks, but Iâve changed wheels twice since then.
What's up Grant, I had a shop install a catless downpipe, and was just wondering is it normal to have a real strong exhaust smell in the car while driving and or just sitting with the car running?
Yeah, that is normal. Iâm running around E30 blend and the smell is a lot better with Ethanol.
@@JohnsonMotorsports Ok, thanks for the info
@@carlosimmons6025 Welcome! How do you like the Catless DP?
Love your videos bro keep at it, I got a 2014 f10 535xi, got 93 oct stage 1 tune from bm3 and love it, need a downpipe now and if I go DP should get a charge pipe also? Heard with higher boost they will crack but I didn't know with stage 1 with dp if it will crack
You need to get rid of that airbox and use a open filer like the bugermotor sports intake or make your own, ive done both the bms intake looks better but my custom made one with pvc pipe makes the blow off valve a tad louder
Yeah, Iâm trying to figure out what route I want to go on the intake. I really like the idea of the AFE intake, but I donât like the cost. As far as the Chargepipe and Downpipe. You will definitely want to upgrade the Chargepipe to avoid the plastic cracking. The Downpipe is made of steel and wonât crack. Swapping out the downpipe will reduce the back pressure on the exhaust and allow it to move more freely.
@@JohnsonMotorsports yea i saw afe but couldn't spend that much on it.....but yea I'm looking at vrsf downpipe, but i have a 2014 so I don't know if the brand you got is made for mine
nichollsboy11 They are working on a model for your year.
@@nichollsboy11 there is a downside on having your air intake visible the the BMS one. I had that one and sold it. I went with the stock parts that came with my 535 f10 and I installed the AFE High flow filter that fits into the stock set-up. Why go back to stock. Because the only thing the burger motorsport air filter did was suck in the very hot air from the engine compartment and feed it to my turbo. Not a good idea. Turbo's love cool air. So if it's summer and it's 85 outside that's what goes into the turbo. If you have an open filter in the engine area it's induction temperature is way higher then outside air.
Question: Do you get a smell from the pipe inside the car? Also.. Iâm crushed that the price is no longer $250âŠ..$299.00 plus shippingđ€ŠđŸ
Yes, you will get an exhaust smell without the cat. I run a blend of E85 so itâs not as bad, still smells though.
@@JohnsonMotorsports Before the E85 was it so strong that it disrupted the family ride? I have to look into the E85 and cost to run it.
Mine had just came in ordered it on aliexpress. Seems like the same one. Looking forward to install and going MHD Stage 2!
I canât wait to start tuning.
@@JohnsonMotorsports How much louder is it now? I did a resonator delete with an x pipe and have stock cat and stock mufflers still. I was hoping once I did the catless downpipe with resonator delete it would be much louder but no drone due to stock mufflers still in place?
G Parmar Itâs really not much louder. Only if n cold start.
Grant Johnson cool. And quick question, did u reuse or old gaskets and clamps?
G Parmar Yes, everything was reused.
Curious if after the Dow pipe install your car has those popping noise from the muffler, and if it does is it very loud. It.s kind of annoying when I hear other cars with it, But at the same time I do wanna order the Down pipe for the other benefits.
Sergio Flores No, I donât get any pops with just the catless downpipe. From what I understand, you have to tune the car with burble settings to get pops. That can be done with MHD or BM3.
Grant Johnson That is weird because multiple people here on youtube have told me it happened after they installed the downpipe, and that they didnât tune the car for pops, that the downpipe causes subtle pops, not as loud as those who tune it in. Maybe depends on the brand of downpipe.
Sergio Flores hmmm. Well, I donât spend a lot of time reving my engine while stationary, so I guess Iâm not the best person to ask. I know the pops are caused by igniting unburned fuel in your exhaust, thatâs why tuning burbles is easily done by adjusting the fuel and spark timing.
If you keep the stock muffler, you will be fine, even with Catless DP. Also BM3 have a setting for OEM Burble if you don't want any in the future.
â@John-qc1zv what about 640i n55 engine with non sporty exhaust and stock mufflers, if I install downpipe will it sound way more louder or just fine and good i mean I just don't need something louder but I need it just to Rev and it sounds good
Any experience with their catted downpipe? I have a catless and and aftermarket exhaust and it is too loud so I ordered their catted downpipe to see if it will fix the drone.
No, I don't have any experience with the catted downpipes.
and how is the new catted downpipe?
I love it!!!
Did you get the check engine light on when you installed the catless downpipe?
Yeah, you can only tune the catless error out.
@@JohnsonMotorsports can I do that with mhd ? Thanks in advance for your response
@@TheTsunami3 Yeah, thatâs what I used. MHD or BM3.
Another great video Grant. I'm also in the process of installing my downpipe.
Did you use a gasket between the dp and turbo?
Red Vega Nice bro!!! I honestly donât think so. I reused the V-band but I donât recall if there was a gasket there. If there was a gasket there from the previous OEM DP, I left it in place.
@@JohnsonMotorsports all good mate. Finished my dp install today :)
Also managed to install the GFB DV+
Nice! How do you like the GFB DV+????
@@JohnsonMotorsports tbh I only drove the car for about 10 mins after installing both mods but have noticed the difference with how quickly the turbo spools and throttle response is much better.
Red Vega Nice man! Yeah, I definitely feel the difference, but Iâm more excited about how it will feel going Stage 2.
That does not too loud, which is great for a 5 series. I am assuming it's with the stock exhaust ? Also, any drone or vibration ?
Yes, exhaust is stock. No drone or vibration. I love the sound.
@@JohnsonMotorsports If you had to do it again, would you go Highflow DP to reduce the sound and the smell or if it's not bad at all ? I like my F10 for the comfort but would not mind more performance at all.
The sound is not a concern at all. Only sounds a little louder on startup. As far as smell, that can be annoying. Especially, when I run straight 91 octane. I typically run around a E30 blend, when running E the smell is better. Not gone, but a lot better.
Wait you smell the scent in the car too ? Or just when your outside the car ?
And are you running turbo because I heard the turbo spool or is it just a blow off valve?
20:21 your steering airbag is popped out man?
I swapped to the M-sport steering wheel with paddles and didnât realize the airbag was different then the stock steering wheel. I had to purchase a new airbag and I installed it a few months ago. Itâs all good now.
Where did you get the side markers?
The smoked markers were purchased on Amazon.
You should delete the mufflers itâll give it a better sound
Definitely thinking about this.
Hello thanks for good info
Question i had 535i what side claims i need also can send purchase link
Iâm not understanding what you are asking.
How much mile do you have on odometer?
I just hit 142k miles.
Is this catless downpipe with stock exhaust?
Yes, I am still running stock exhaust.
Hi brother, is this 3.5 or 4 inches pipe & What would u recommend for 535 2012 ?
For a 2012 you would need the 3.5â, which is what I have. The 4â is for EWG cars which is some 2014 and up.

Lol! Yeah, I have to have safety glasses at work, so I always forget them there. Definitely would have been good to have them on for this.
Great vid, did you get any errors after installing the cat ?
I get a check engine light at the moment since I havenât flashed tuned the car. The check engine light is because the primary and secondary O2 sensors are reading the same emissions.

Lol. The airbag was from my old basic steering wheel. When I bought my M Sport wheel I didnât realize the airbag was different. I have replaced it now.
Hey! What about res delete and consumption after stage 2?
Not sure on the res delete. I may check into that, but donât want the exhaust to be too loud. My fuel consumption has gone up slightly, but I think that is due to the E35 blend I am currently running.

Did you get any engine light after starting the car with the careless Downpipe. Did u had to tune it or it worked like that???
I didnât get an immediate check engine light on startup, but I do get a check engine light daily due to the o2 readings. I am running a JB4, so I just delete the codes everyday. I will tune out the issue when I add my MHD backend flash.
@@JohnsonMotorsports so no performance issue even with the engine light on and once you delete the code it doesnât come back right?

What's the difference between this Performance downpipe and the Highflow downpipe?
High flow has a higher flowing catalytic converter, catless has no catalytic converter at all.
@@JohnsonMotorsports wich of the 2 is a better option Grant?
I prefer the Highflow. Frees up the exhaust for performance tuning, but still reduces the exhaust smell.
@@JohnsonMotorsports ty Grant..đ
Does this effect smog?
I donât have inspections in my State. They did away with them 20 + years ago.
Is this hi flow and could I use this one for my tune?
Well depends on how you look at it. There are high flow down pipes that still have a catalytic converter, just less cells. This is a catless down pipe. So it will be the highest flow possible, because there is not catalytic converter at all. Yes, this will work with almost any tune. You will want a tune, to avoid a check engine light due to O2 sensor readings. Also, with a catless down pipe your car will have more of an exhaust odor. I donât mind the smell, especially since I am running an E30 ethanol blend, but just something to keep in mind. The smell is worse on just basic 91 or 93 octane.
@@JohnsonMotorsports i use 93 damn so the smells that bad?
@@russiankhan3977 Depends on the person, but stinks to me! Are you tuned? May want to give the ethanol a try. Ethanol has more of a sweet smell when it burns.

This is the last thing I need to go to MHD stage 2, I sent them a email.
Sounds great! Awesome product.
Did you have to code anything, since itâs careless?
Aqash Gill No coding is required for the car to run, however you will get a check engine light due to the O2 sensors. You will need to flash Tune the car (MHD or Bootmod3) to avoid a constant check engine light.
Grant Johnson are you running stage 1 or just stock tune?
Aqash Gill Right now I am running a JB4 on map 5 with/E40. Soon I will add a FMIC and MHD Backend Flash.
By flash tune do you think race chip would clear that?
@@raizadoza I honestly donât know much about the Race Chip. From what Iâve heard the power increase is marginal compared to a flash tune.

Are you in MD?
Is its 3.5" or 4" ?
Mohamed Adam Itâs 3.5â. EWG is 4â.
if i get a downpipe will i need a tune?
You can run a downpipe without a tune, however you will get a check engine light due to the secondary O2 sensor reading the same emissions as the primary.

@@JohnsonMotorsports I bought a catted down pipe from rvg, I didnât want to go catless because if emission regulations etc. but I have my old cat out at the moment and the exhaust side will slide in and the hanging bolts will fit but itâs 1/8th of an inch from lining up with the clamp on the turbo side. Did the clamp on the turbo side cause you some problems? The alignment is so slightly not aligning with the OEM clamp
DM me on IG with pics. However, I will say that using both mounting points isnât necessary. Every RVG DP I have installed on my car mounted up properly, however after swapping out my transmission a few months ago I just decided to run 1 of the mounting points.
Follow up for anyone trying to do this in the future and finds this. I had to use a vice and bang the hanging mount 1/8th of an inch back so it would align. I went to put the stock clamp on the exhaust side and the thread was stripped. So I bought a new 3.5â clamp but the exhaust is slightly smaller than 3.5â so I used the old clamp aswell as the new one

7LAMPS MINISTRIES I appreciate it! Can never be too safe.
Fix that breather line!
Good bro

Thanks for watching.
How much did this cost?
If I remember correctly, they run around $250 shipped.
Top bolt on the cat is impossible
đ. Nah it just takes time and the right tools.
@@JohnsonMotorsports what did you use i couldnât get it out with a 13 mm wrench
@@JxstJosh If I call correctly thatâs what I used. That or a 1/4â ratchet with a swivel socket.
@@JohnsonMotorsports okay thanks
I donât know how you guys work under cars like this with no safety glasses. All types of dirt and rust particles falling in your eyeballs. đđđ
Yeah!!! I left my safety glasses at work. Not recommend!
Like your videos, but am fearful for your safety. Do yourself a favor and wear safety glasses so crap doesn't take out your eyes. Also, doing stuff on just jack stands or worse yet a jack can get you seriously hurt or killed.
Also, the O2 sensors are color coded on the inside of them (one is yellow).
Thanks for your concern. Safety first. Anytime Iâm under the car, I try to make sure Iâm on ramps/jackstands and I add a Jack for extra protection.
