  • I wanted to answer the question if there is in fact a difference in power between a high-flow cat downpipe, and a catless downpipe. I am glad to report in the case of my BMW N55 there is no noticeable difference!

    I'm 100% with you on running cats, I hate the smell too, also I need one for the annual inspection in my country, and I cannot be bothered changing it over every year. Much better to just run a high flow cat all the time 👍

      I totally agree! In my 20+yrs of owning cars this is the first one that I run with a high-flow cat and besides the higher initial purchase price, it's all positives from there on! So I've converted to the high-flow cats! lol

    I believe there is a way to improve the burn of the fuel inside the engine and even if you run catless, to not have the fuel smell. A friend of mine run very tuned e90 335i 600bhp+. Zero smell, literally zero. I still avoid removing mine, for the very same reason, but I am sure with enough investment you can achive this even with catless

    The catted Downpipes sound great too imo. I just went with dinan exhausr paired with the race Catted evolutions raceworks Downpipe and the sound is unreal. It sounds like a louder m5 for my 535i

    Awesome video, been waiting for someone to do this comparison 👍🏻 what was conclusion on fuel smell with RVG?

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Před rokem +1

      barely noticeable ! Since I am still on 100% gasoline, I expected to smell a tad of it, but it really is minimal and only at cold start. It's night and day better than catless.

      @@turbospool like many I was in a similar position to you 2 years back, went straight to cat less due to not any catted options at the time, but my “older” self does not appreciate the fuel smell and wants catted 😉

    My preference has always been high flow cats, mainly to refine the sound, and keep it from being LOUD

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Před měsícem

      It did quiet down the exhaust a little bit, which was a welcomed change. It was too loud for DD duty with a catless. So im with you on this. It’s definitely worth the extra money for a highflow cat over a catless

    I drive a 550 with the N63TU Engine so i definitely want to make the best decision since I'm dealing with a 400+ bhp 4.4L V8. The last owner likely had no idea what he was doing but had the rear mufflers cut off but the mid and the resonators still appear attached. I'm taking it to a reputable exhaust shop to have the exhaust redone, I want it "True Dualed" with independent pipes running all the way back from the axles. The big choice however is the downpipes. I really want to think about my wife and and my nostrils and go catted even though it's expensive. I may save up as much as i can and have the car flash tuned as well once done. If all goes well, i should have a pretty sweet sounding V8 monster that won't destroy my wife's septum!

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Před 10 měsíci +1

      That sounds like a great for idea. I got tired of smelling fuel fumes at lights/ not being about to lower the windows. Even now with high flow cat I still smell it but it’s a minuscule fraction of what it was at catless. You’re definitely on the right track! Do it once and do it right

    what software you used to log these numbers?
    I assume a mobile software and an OBD2 connector?

      I use my MHD tuning software. I can connect it via the MHD obd2 dongle, or an OBD2 >ethernet> lightning converter into my phone

    I agree on everything. The smell sucks and isnt classy. The little dampening of the sound is also an improvement. Some years ago I also noticed on my audi 100 2.8 when I removed the cats that I had a little more hp but definitely less torque down the rev range. High flow cat all the way!!🎉

    I have a 2013 135is N55. my main question is did you have check engine lights on a regular basis with either catless or the high flow cat. i want to go high flow cat but i am concerned about check engine lights and limp mode. thx

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Před rokem +2

      I have MHD tuning software so since I installed the catless downpipe years ago I just selected the “catless downpipe” option. So I never had the CEL for it.
      I am not sure if now with the highflow cat I can deselect that option and not trigger the CEL. But there’s also no benefit/ reason for me to deselect it so I haven’t tried it. Hopefully someone else can chime in and answer from their experience!

    Did you notice any difference with heat wrapping the downpipe?

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  Před měsícem +1

      Not enough to notice on the highflow catted one. Since the cat itself is a big ceramic oven it holds a lot of heat within anyway. The wrap is just there to reduce the heat being emitted outward.
      On the CATLESS downpipe I did notice it almost eliminated the downpipe tin-popping sound. Spool up sounded cleaner to the ear as well. I DID notice less heat coming up that side of the engine when I would pop the hood (as theres no catalyst retaining heat like with a catted or the stock DP)
