THE FG KNOT SUCKS!!! - Learn to tie the best braid to leader knot in the business

  • Here is a little insight into a knot I was taught when the FG was first becoming popular, its so good I've almost forgotten how to tie and FG after using this exclusively for a number of years now. It's basically a hand tied PR bobbin knot which doesn't require any tools and once you've worked it out you probably won't bother with the FG ever again.
    I've used this knot for years now without any issues, it's super easy to tie, neat, small, as strong as an FG and easier to tie in all situations. Just be sure to tension it in the correct sequence and it'll last until you have no leader left. I've tied this a few times in this clip to show different breaking strains and explained in depth how to get your head around it, works well from Pe 0.6 to Pe 10 regardless of leader size and breaking strain - go and give it a crack!
    Huge Shoutout to Nick at Mutiny Gaming for the Logo Design also Andy at AMCK Creative for the gangsta intro!!!! CHEERS LEG ENDS
    Anyway, if you got questions hit me up, I'm happy to help!!
    Peace :)

    Hey Mick I have been tying the same knot for years using the Shout Bobbin Knotter , it was developed by the Japanese guys who were jigging for big dogtooth tuna and it is the best line to leader knot I have ever used . You are the first bloke I have ever seen tying it by hand , that's next level mate and I am definitely going to practice this without using the tool . I have never had this knot fail between line and leader, even if I am snagged up and have to bust off it will break down at the lure end and never at the line leader connection. Thanks for sharing this one mate. 👍

    Always good to hear from a top notch fisherman
    like you.
    Will tie the "no name knot"(braid to mono/flo) out of
    necessity while on the water. But will use wind-on
    leaders exclusively pre-trip rigging.
    Have got a bag full of wind-on leaders, built myself,
    from 20lb up to 200lb. This method provides for
    the smoothest travel of your line through your guides
    possible. When you build your wind-on's yourself
    they're dirt cheap after initial investment of materials.
    You can easily switch out leaders on the water by
    undoing the loop to loop connections.
    Believe fishing with you would be a very worthwhile
    effort for anyone. Thanks for your videos.
    Best to you always,
    TIGHT LINES !!!

    PR knot without the bobbin (hand tied) it’s a good knot. It’s still however 2 x layers of braid over your leader, opposed to the FG where’s it’s only 1. And you can’t beat 1 x layer of braid when cast through micro guides, hours on end

    • @Micksgonefishing
      @Micksgonefishing  Před rokem +1

      Never had one of these come loose unlike the FG and if you really think about it the FG also has a good portion of 2 layers which crossover many times. This is a far superior knot in all aspects, but each to their own!

    Great tutorial on the knot. as much as I think the end product is still the FG knot, its a different way of doing it. I learnt the other way using the old chompers to bite down on the braid tag, this way saves using your teeth to hold that tag. I find it gets dangerous on the hands when I'm doing 15lb braid to 10lb or 6lb leader. Cuts into my hands. Worse if hands are wet from cast net.

      It’s basically a hand tied PR knot, which is a friction knot, the same as FG, but much neater, smaller and easier to tie once you get to know it. If the FG knot is easier for you and your confident in it then there is no need to fix it 👌🏻 maybe try this a few times and get your head around it, like the FG you might not get it right the first time but when you do you’ll probably prefer it once you’ve tried it 🍻

    But would love to see ya demonstrate it on light finesse lines like 6lb... I've seen lots of braid to leader knots demonstrated on CZcams that work great when your using whipper snipper cord as your main line, but they don't translate well when you go down to sub 10lb.

    • @Micksgonefishing
      @Micksgonefishing  Před rokem

      Thanks mate, from what I read the problem is in the tensioning process at the end you want the braid to bind in and change color. When you’re pulling all 4 tight you should see the back of the knot tighten. Then when you pull down the braid tag against your leader main and braid tag you’ll see the front of the knot bite in.. you need it tightened both ends which is easy you just gotta pay attention to it biting in.. my leader material I use is quite soft and supple so it bites easy but if you’re using a hard leader material you’ll need to tension harder..

    • @ChaserAUYT
      @ChaserAUYT Před rokem

      Thanks for replying mate. I use fc rock 40lb fluorocarbon leader and sufix 30lb braid. I really hang off the knots as you describe and all appears to dig in and change colour looks neat and secure. Even pulled tag rasuto end so hard ive broken tag several times . But once I put some some pressure on leader and braid ends only to test knot it starts to slip and eventually pulls free.
      I tested doing a 15 turn fg knot with no hitches at end but instead using Ur 12 turn rasuto finish end knot and it holds real strong and never slips. In saying that , I much rather Ur PR knot because it's so slim, neat , strong and passes through guides like a dream, so really want to get it sorted.

    • @Micksgonefishing
      @Micksgonefishing  Před 3 lety

      You need to pull all 4 tight against each other, in one hand you’ll have the braid tag and main leader and the other the leader tag and braid main. Pull them against each other really firm and you’ll see the color change as the braid bites into the leader. After that pull the braid tag down to finish the rizutto and then test the connection with the two mains, if it’s still slips it’s because you didn’t pull the 4 together tight enough on the first tension with all 4 lines. You’ll get a feel for when it bites in, if you’re using a super hard fluorocarbon leader like FC100 use Pe sticks to pull it down as these will save you cutting your hands badly. I’ve used this knot with 6lb braid to 10lb fluro leader with no issues so 30-40 should be a breeze!
