Fernando Alonso's dire warning for Aston Martin's F1 team

- Fernando Alonso has fired a warning shot at the underperforming Aston Martin team.
“It’s time to work harder, to talk less, to deliver more”, he said after a pointless Spanish Grand Prix.
He’s not expecting things to go better in Austria either. He anticipates the Red Bull Ring will be a “painful” track for Aston Martin because of the long corners and high-speed sections.
So why, only two months after committing his long-term Formula 1 future to Aston Martin, has Alonso drawn attention to the team’s travails so publicly?

*Insert obligatory fire Lance Stroll comment here*
Alternate timeline where, at the Spanish Grand Prix, it’s announced that Sainz will be racing alongside Alonso at Aston Martin next year
Problems more Alonso’s poor car feedback than Stroll.
Any team that has Alonso as a number 1 driver becomes more uncompetitive the longer he’s in the team.
First post & it's the obligatory billionaire ass kissing competition.
@@paperplane-db8qf I mean...you aren't wrong......but somehow...you are?
@@paperplane-db8qf This is actually true
Aston's #1 problem has always been understanding their car.
Only having 1 driver is the bigger issue
nope, the #1 problem is the rich autistic child/driver
I'd let off Fallows for downgrading Andy Green's car last year, but not being able to upgrade his own is telling
@@damag3plan That won't solve the car issue.
@@damag3planthey could have a line up of verstappen and norris and they would be in the same position.
It is hard to see AM as serious as long as Lance Stroll is taking a seat.
as simple as it gets
Well neither drivers are doing anything special the past few races with Alonso himself getting knocked out of Q1.
🎯
How can one argue with that....?
@@paperplane-db8qf
If the car is so shit that even Alonso can't make some hay with it.. and Stroll is behind him as usual.. Pretty clear the car is dragging
Totally agree. They've been going backwards for a year now. No excuse. The guys have to become a team. Poor qualifying each and every race. Setup in q1 is way off always. Need a faster car with better setups. McLaren is eating their lunch. They gotta get serious.
Alonso praying for a Brawn gp situation for 2026. Win like 9 races and hope the car is good enough throughout the season for consistent top 6 finishing possiitons because Aston Martin does not know how to upgrade a car! 😭
😂 the best upgrade they can do is boot stroll.
@@prozoomy3588the best upgrade they can do is replace Alonso with Ocon.
@@paperplane-db8qf ocon vs stroll would be an awesome comedy show but i dont think it would help aston
@@paperplane-db8qf why would they replace Alonso when he is the one scoring the points when the car is suitable to. Stroll doesn't even out qualify or place ahead of Alonso very often.
@@tritekk Aston May finally pick up their only win in F1. Either way they aren’t going anywhere with Alonso.
Performance is relative. Aston Martin made a massive jump in 2022 from the beginning to the end of the season. But it's easy to upgrade when the car is bad. Aston aren't bad at making a good car, they are bad at keeping up with the big teams.
true
Hence, making a mediocre car in the long run. Lol
Given how the sky is the limit in F1 and thus the bar is set by the fastest/best car at any given point in time - one can say AM is bad at making a good car, presicely because they cannot keep up with the best teams.
Aston improved from the back of the field to challenging McLaren and Alpine by the end of 2022.
Then they became the second fastest team at the start of 2023.
It’s not easy to improve the second fastest team.
The driver change from 2022 to 2023 is the only downgrade:
“The driver is one of the best sensors. We’ve got some very good tools and software, but the driver input is key. He’s very motivational, he’s a lovely human being. He pushes everyone in every area, and he’s helped us lift our game.”

Nobody ever misses an opportunity to say "Mike Crack"

Every upgrade Aston brings they get slower
Might as well add pin wheels and a bicycle bell to the car.
Downgrades
Their only solace is that their closest competition, VCARB, is having the same issue
AM is joke
The car feels good
Much zlower than before, amazing
Car feels good. Much slower than before. Amazing.
Ohhhh, come on Fernando. Stroll Sr. is busy keeping Stroll Jr. in the sport. You think he cares how the car performs?
Exactly... Aston Martin being in F1 as a midfield team is good enough for him.
He'll make a ton of money anyways.
Yes lmao he does I know lance stroll doesn't deserve his seat but it's pretty clear Lawrence wants to have a team that can deliver a car that is a front runner and his investments prove it... Even if his driver lineup doesn't
Stroll has literally been matching near Alonso the past 5 races.
If you think Strolls the problem then you’re just blind. They design the car based on Alonso’s feedback.
@@paperplane-db8qf So do 5 races overshadow the massive deficit he had all the time??
@@ohhkida well when the team builds a shitbox to suit Alonso’s driving style then the second driver is going to suffer.
Happened with Massa, Kimi, Button, Vandoorne; why wouldn’t it happen with Stroll?
Newey needs to go to Williams. That’s a movie level story. Leaving RB and going back to Williams and winning? Cmon
probably a prerequisite of a sainz signing
Sainz and Newey would make Williams a true competitor, quicker than anyone else, especially Aston Martin.
Give Newey a stake in the team, that he didn't get the first time causing him to leave, and he'll love Williams all over again!
Would LOVE to see Ferrari, McLaren and Williams at the top of the pile. Merc, Red Bull & Aston Martin can fight for 4th. That's my ideal outcome for 2030. Such a long shot tho.
This is exactly what I've been wishing for. Screw the other teams, go out with a bang
Newey is great but all of a sudden turning Williams into a winning team is a tough ask.
Newey in his golden retirement years would much rather align himself with Ferrari as it hits two birds with one stone. Besides, Ferrari isn’t far off of the pace from RB. Williams on the other hand? That’s not a fun project when your pushing almost 70
This is known as the law of diminishing returns. It’s relatively easier to go from 9th to 5th but that much harder to go from 5th to 3rd.
a Billion dollars per 1/10second.
Alonso and Sainz would be such a good duo
It’s not the main problem but when is Lawrence Stroll going to bite the bullet and get rid of his son and get a driver who can actually score decent points.
No. Its his son for god sake. He won't take his hands off that
Our only hope is for Lance to man up and tell his dad he quits. But Lance is too much of a weak bitch to do that.
@@user-fu3mn7ei6l and the team is in the bin because it's all centered around someone who just doesn't have the talent for the ambition of the team.
I don't even care for the glue eater, just giving Alonso a car that can fight for podiums is enough.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanksthe team is centered around Alonso, not Stroll.
Sorry, Fernando. Unless Lance complains, Daddy doesn't care.
Newey is not the magic bullet people think he is. His core strengths work to ground effect cars (early 1990s, early 2010s and 2022-) where he excels. The next rule set is more engine and mechanical grip dependent so Newey's skills might not matter as much. It could be another engine formula like 2014 was....
Lance needs to go, he's bringing the team down
When your car struggles in long corners and slow speed sections… you gotta wonder where it excels 😂
straights?
It’s strong in the paddock.
"AM is going backwards" *relatively*, in an incredibly tight pack where convergence is now real.
It says something above how incredible the achievement of Eddie Jordan that late 90s is still the best period of this teams history
Looking at Alonso’s comments, makes me realize how patient Seb was when it came to AM and deserved much better. Would have even been in F1 if car could have been better back then.
Alonso is well clear of seb
Seb I have a feeling was very good at providing car feedback and more clinical in his approach. The podiums AM got had a lot to do with that development period. Without seeing the data that's just a guess
@@mwilson1294 I don’t see much difference between Stroll and Alonso right now that the car is good for P11-P12.
Even Seb scored 70+% of team’s points. Was well ahead of stroll.
I’m not saying Seb overall is a better driver than Alonso.
Not talking about the FIA TD issued to Aston to take their front wing away is leaving a huge point of the problem out
You could say it all started going wrong when Fallows joined, seems like he wasn't the most attentive in the school of Newey
Everything started going well when he joined the team lmao. Shows how smart F1 fans really are
Seems like they have had some problem to develop the car since Seb Vettel left...i wonder if he might have been more valuable for development than one might think.
I dont think AM technical team.know what they are doing.
Feel bad for Alonso.
Vettel was incredibly valuable for Aston Martin, he gave the team much needed direction
Now all of that is completely gone, remember Stroll is apparently better at setting up the car (according to Alonso himself)
Relatively, how does the Stroll-to-Alonzo gap compare to the Perez-to-Verstappen gap?
In your videos, I saw that frame of Newey moving arms and hands so many times, I dream about that sometimes.
What was the comment about Newey “inevitably” going to AM???
Listen again
@@procatprocat9647 no
When the team was Force India and Merc / Red Bull / Ferrari were dominating at the front, they got a crazy amount of podiums. Now that the team is spending just as much money as them and the competition is much closer, they can't get anywhere near the front and get worse every year? (Discounting 2023) There's no way Lawrence Stroll fully knows what he's doing... (as if that wasn't obvious enough from keeping Lance as the driver and forcing everyone to talk about him like he's the next Senna)
Can you make a chart of their super times deficit with a moving average since stroll took conltrol?
Barring some miracle progress in the next coming races, I don't expect any real improvement till Honda arrives.
Getting outscored by Alpine triggered this warning
As long as Lance Stroll is a driver Laurence Stroll is not serious about being front runner...
It just goes to show that throwing money at a project doesn't always work. Force India achieved pretty much the same on a much lower budget.
I think is time to work smarter not harder, it's the second time they start to improve the car mid season and make it worse, it seems like they don't really understand how that car works.
It is wild how few teams understand how to build a car under these regulations now in the third year of them.
Same with the 2014 engine regulations. In both cases tho, one team knew every little detail of those regulations. In 2014, it was Mercedes. In 2022, Red Bull. In both cases, the team in question was lobbying the FIA to have rules written to favor them and their strengths. And now for 2026, the rules were written around Audi (although this time Audi didn’t lobby the FIA). So much so in fact that the 2026 engine regulations produce a power unit that is operationally very similar to the unit Audi already runs in DAKAR. With this in mind, it becomes clear who’s dominating in F1 next. F1 isn’t about who’s got the best engineers. It’s about who’s got the biggest pockets and the best negotiation skills so they can buy their way to victory. Utter bullshit
@@mrsoisauce9017It was Mercedes that lobbied for rule changes in the ground effect era as well. Remember the raising of the floor edges in the middle of 2022? Mercedes were crying to have that rule change because they just couldn't stop their car from bouncing like a kangaroo.
@@patepulkkinenvtec2403 I know about that part, but the point is that the overall 2022 ground effect regulations were written to benefit Red Bull
@@mrsoisauce9017 sad they got rid of MGU-H when it's one of the only F1 technologies that has actually worked it's way into high performance road cars
@@theairaccumulator7144 The MGU-H is still in there. It’s the more complicated MGU-K that was scrapped. I believe it was the MGU-K that wasn’t adopted in road cars and was a barrier to manufacturers joining
Time and time again we keep getting promises and they always fail to deliver. Yet I'm optimistic each time and left disappointed each time. Now they're touting Hungary with apparently a B spec car coming, it genuinely feels like the 100th time they've come out and hyped up potential upgrades. I shouldn't be optimistic given their recent upgrade history but I can't help but feel optimistic. Eagerly awaiting the Hungary GP...
Depends how the second driver’s They gonna back in the mixed soon it’s build around the first driver pick too drive
In the latest regulations era, the teams who have been most honest with their underperformance on specific tracks have taken the biggest leaps in performance when bringing new upgrades
remove the window licker... and get a good driver that delievers good information and points, problem solved
Fallows took all he could from RBR at the time (legally), hence performance last year. But as RBR have developed, AM have fallen back as Fallows hasn't seen those designs
I don’t see Aston winning titles while Alonso is there, and that’s not from underestimating Alonso’s longevity.
Wonder if Merc would’ve taken him if he was still on the market
Said it at the start of the season. O dont care about all the hires, new facilities, or tech upgrades. I want to see if this team can actively develop the car over a season. This is like what the third year this has happened?
By sheer coincidence, Lance Stroll announced his contract extension. Daddy is the best.
It baffles me that literally only two teams have a handle on downforce cars after two and a third seasons. Newey needs to join F1 technical group to create a how to book on car design. Can only be viewed at F1 facility in a SCIF. Or set up a Newey Academy and give very very costly to enrol tutorials. He could make so much money. And his brilliance could be passed on to more designers. And F1 racing would be all the better for it. This would help level the playing field from a knowledge point of view.
What wrong is going on with AMR I don't understand. Very frustrating.
If I were him and I am not, then I too would like to talk less especially to journalists come the following grand prix. Simply because little positive will be said. Wish they make a comeback fast.
Yea but those parts have historically made the car far worse... Sure, takes time to make parts but when they get put on the car and its slower, of course Stroll is allowed to be upset and running short on patience with that development.
Alonso playing the team leader role perfectly. Put a rocket into them and ignite the passion. Must be a stressful environment to work in as Stroll comes across as a very demanding boss. He's definitely not nurturing kind. I hope they get it sorted. It will be a cracker if redbull, Merc, Mclaren, Ferrari and Aston all were challenging for top spots in 26. Can you imagine?
Get well soon, Edd!
They started good in 2023 but 1 wrong upgrade brought them downhill. That's the magic of the cost cap. Can't correct the mistakes.
More mike .. less crack
Adrian Newey is absolutely not going to AM.
Yea. They just extended Lance Stroll 😊😂😅😂😅
I don't know hiw anyone takes that team seriously.
That would be expecting too much of Aston Martin. They're just not there yet.
How could they not knowing their own car well having both drivers experienced and highly professional, oh wait...
It doesn't help they have a banana driving one of the cars. Teams need driver who can help develop the car.
Theres only 1 long corner on the austrian track.....
Why would a top tier engineer like Adrian join when the owner's son gets a free ride
Honestly I don't see any reason why Newey would go to Aston over Ferrari tbh. Ferrari can likely offer more money, more flexibility, and are more prestigious. The only things I can think Aston can offer is they are a UK based team, so Newey wouldn't have to fly to Italy all the time, and they might offer him a share in the team.
They'd probably double their points share next year if they picked up Sainz. Any performance upgrades make no difference if the number 2 driver is miles behind.
They just extended Lance 😂😂😂😂😂
Until they make upgrades that stop harming their pace, I just don't see any hope. Never mind improving relative pace, I'd like this team to at least make upgrades that keeps their position at the top midfield.
I’m starting to worry that maybe Fernando is starting to lose it. It happens to everyone eventually.
İdk it could just be a slow car putting the guy in a depresso as it has been the case for so long
He doesn't have many seasons left in F1... it's now or never.
Probably the car tbh
it's very obviously the car lol; krack et al have no idea how to make the car better
Remember, we are still working through the "Fernando Alonso in a new team" cycle
Remember the day before Alonso signed his new contract he said right now Aston Martin are ahead of Mercedes. Crazy how things can change so fast.
I agree.
Honestly, I think he signed that very specific contract (post-driving ambassadorship, etc) to show Lewis that AM would give him everything he asked for - which was what Lewis asked Merc for - whereas Lewis had to go to Ferrari to get it. Yes, he is that petty. It came so soon after it got out that Lewis was moving and sounded like near enough identical conditions. There is _no_ way he was thinking that way a week before he signed the contract!
I'm betting that he's quietly kicking himself since AM started sliding down the greasy pole.
I'm just laughing here at the thought of if this were other particular drivers, fans would be commenting that they're whining.
Understanding the shitshow AM is now is understanding the father and son dynamic presented to us last year
This wasn’t exactly a dire warning. They’re showing dire pace though. Their new wind tunnel hasn’t come on line.
It’s just funny that it was 2 whole months ago in April when Alonso basically shit on Mercedes by saying it wasn’t very attractive because it was behind them.
And look where we are now.
They are the only team that seems to bring "downgrades" to their car.
Until they get rid of Lance, no one will take them seriously. Can't believe Honda teamed up with them. Good luck with that. Without an Adrian Newey they are doomed.
They don't even have the wind tunnel operational yet. We can't talk about their big investments not making a difference if they're not even operational yet...
If Aston Martin is serious about it’s ambitions it should fire Stroll and give his seat to Sainz
Maybe lance is not giving enough data for the engineers to work on..
Not Stroll but Drugovich. He's their test/reserve driver and the driver putting in the most development work.
Nah it’s Alonso - he’s historically been a poor development driver as nearly every team he’s been in gets worse the longer he’s in it.
Aston Martin need to do the opposite of whatever he says.
Alonso: “The car needs more understeer”. Make the car more oversteery!
@@paperplane-db8qf worst take I’ve ever seen he’s currently got triple the amount of points as stroll
And in 2022 when the car was competitive he scored on the podium in 8/9 of the first 9 races and stroll was barely getting the car in the points at all
@@MaljigYou mean 2023, 2022 was Vettel/Stroll.

I’m here 😂
Seems like Aston is becoming just like Mercedes: they are always super confident that they understand their car concept and can fix their issues, happen to have a few strong results there and then, get hyped up, and eventually slip back to periferia for many races to come.
I’m mostly just shocked that it took this long for ALO to start throwing shade at his own team. The honey moon is always over at some point and the ALO starts spitting friendly fire.
And they’ve re-signed Lance for multiple years showing, once again, that Lawrence isn’t serious about winning
Ah, for the next year, we'll hear all the blame put on the new wind tunnel not correlating with the CFD models and the real track performance.

I'm calling it (I've not seen the whole video yet), bye bye Dan Fallows, hello Mr Newey.
Lawrence Stroll can stomp his feet and cry all he wants. Nothing he can say will improve performance.
They said start of season, they didn't keep up in development last year, it wont happen again. They're now slower than the alpines

No doubt Aston Martin is a big name with big ppl recruitment all over also new factory n wind tunnel and who is planning to take part in Le Mans also soon due to which Alonso felt to continue with them but d problem is he is short of time before he is retiring permanently n he wants to win a championship before that if not a win atleast... which he is unable to do with them ... thus feel a bit of regret to sign up a extension with them now ...😬😬

They also announced Lance's contract extension (big surprise). They're cooked
the team need to get their heads out of their asses, stop telling us all how good they think lance stroll is, and just work 100% on figuring out the problem with their car.
Make sure to tell Alonso that, he thought Stroll was WDC-level 😂
Lance has to go?
We got Alonso burning bridges again before GTA 6
You will have to see at least two more cars come out of the new factory and wind tunnel before we can honestly say this team is lost.
On the other hand how can McLaren go from 8th fastest to fastest in less than 2 years why cant other teams do that..
Well Aston does need 2 drivers to develop a car. Instead they're too busy paying for the windows licker's damage and trying to glaze daddy stroll
I think the Aston Martin team is very pleased with their performance as a new team. And I honestly think they dont have the ambition to be number 1.
That's an understatement
