In this video tutorial, we show you how to make a reusable silicone hot glue stick mold and how to color and mold your own custom hot glue sticks using crayons, old make up and glitter!

How to make glue stick
There are methods people have used to make “hot glue” from melted candy but it is not really as sturdy or malleable as actual hot glue. Unfortunately it is not very simple or economical to make hot glue sticks in a home environment, it includes chemicals that are usually only used on an industrial scale. The glue sticks we make here can be made from hot glue sticks, hot glue pellets, or left over glue remnants. The main purpose of this tutorial is to show how to color glue sticks. :)

Gotcha :) The doll sized I'm not overly concerned with actually 'working' (since the glue gun won't), as it's more a play prop than anything.
This is a very good Simple to follow video . However I would like to pass along a Little Information About the OOMOO-30 Rubber mold making kit. It only has a shelve life of 9 mos. so the Sooner you use it the pretty. I however waited to long to make this project and I found my Part " A " Solid And Rubery . Which Renders the Kit useless .So I had to reorder Another kit Hopefully I will be able to making my glue stick Mold next week end
Not experienced with silicone mold making, but I have some ideas on this:
1)Use a clear container so you can see silicone in mold. Mark desired glue stick length on outside.
2)Leave glue sticks and container longer than you want so they stick out of the top of the mold.
3) Mark glue sticks at height you want to make new ones, press a small amount of modeling clay in a downward pointing cone shape on sticks just above this line.
4)Prepare base as you did in video, set on container, and fill to line.
*If* this works like I think it should, you should be able to pull glue sticks out easier, as they would extend above the mold, and the cone of modeling clay would form a little funnel to make filling easier. An empty 2 liter soda bottle would probably work well - you could put a bit of clay in the indentions in the bottom to give it a flat surface and conserve silicone.

I'm watching this at 3AM and i want to do this but my parents would kill me if i do this at 3AM
Before adding the silicon, lubricate the glue stick with Vaseline and when the silicon hardens, it'll be easier to remove the glue sticks.
Not a bad idea for the first batch or perhaps a dripless spray lubricant.
How well do your crayon-colored version still adhere? At least to itself? I make hot glue sculptures (just starting out) and if I can find a cheaper alternative to enamel for painting, I'm all for it.
It adheres just fine to itself and we also haven’t had any noticeable issues with it on other substances either, but hot glue does have its limitations and does not adhere well to smooth surfaces that it can’t bond with.

If the pigments melt point is lower or similar to the glue then it shouldn't be a problem at all. :)

Is there a way to make ur own glue sticks w/out starting w ready made ones?
+Debbie Radmer Ive been looking into it, but to make proper glue sticks you need materials that are industry level mixtures. Its probably cheaper to just purchase bulk clear glue sticks for custom coloring. The only other method Ive seen is people melting candy and using that to glue things, but that would not be a very clean or long solution for projects so I wouldn’t recommend it. Ill keep my eye out though! -Harmony

I bought one Smooth on Silicone Rubber Kit for the project And Want to make 4'' Glue Sticks Will the one kit be enough ?
It will depend on how large the container is that you use for the mold. 1 kit was large enough for our 20+ 3 stick containers, just match your molding container the the amount of liquid you have and make as many stick molds as you can in that amount of space.
Also make sure the container is plastic that you can cut.

Its pretty great! Current I am going to test a few things out with silicone double boiler pots to see if its possible to melt the glue in a container that it won’t stick to, thats one of the only things we think would make it better. :)
