  • Experiment time! In this video, we try making a mold with some hot glue, to cast in epoxy resin a copy of a quick-release plate for a tripod.
    We reckon you can make a mold with hot glue for anything that can withstand the temperature, and the alcohol you will likely need to use to release the original part from the mold. 😉

    nicely done. was the mold damaged at all when you removed the cast? can you reuse it?

    • @SculptyWorks
      @SculptyWorks  Pƙed rokem +4

      No damage at all. The corners looked a little 'fatigued", but the hot glue is remarkably flexible, and I should be able to use it a few more times with no problems.

    This raises a question for me (as a 3D printer guy), can you use a 3D printer PEN, and FLEXIBLE FILAMENT (prolly 95a shore hardness since pens don't have likely a good enough drive mechanism for softer filaments) to equally well create a mold???

    • @SculptyWorks
      @SculptyWorks  Pƙed rokem +1

      That's an interesting question!
      My only experience with 3D printers so far is with the resin ones, so I have no idea!

    Do you think hot glue will be nicy for epoxy guitar form ? I'm worry about damge glue form

      I wouldn't use it on anything sensitive to heat, or that might get stuck to the glue.

    does it work caskin wth ca glue in this mold? allso does polymer clay molds work caskin with ca glue products?

      I don't know, we'd have to try and find out. 😊

      @@SculptyWorks Yes. I will test it as soon I can. The hot glue was smart and easy tough. I think ppolymer clay will work as long there are something like corn starch or maybe some baby oil.. I have a bottle of sculpey clay softener that have a oily ish texture. maybe It will work? Another thing wondered about is if sculpey polymer clay is any good for guitar nut and saddle. They are made of plastic on cheaper guitars. Anyone whom read this and have experience are more than welcome wiith some feedback.

      I don't think polymer clay would make good nuts/saddles, the stuff is too soft.
