Hello Corvette life...as I'm a gm mechanic you should always press the whole bushing out..The orginal bushing has metal outer sleeve made with the bushing. That's why it's tight with the poly ones..your learning and that's great..Robert F.
They fit fine if you remove the bushing shell.
I've been following you for four years you're the first one I followed. I'm on my third Corvette. 04 Corvette triple black
Thanks. These were the only two bushings left to replace and my entire rear end is new. Thank you for the link.
Have you put those batman wing bushings in yet? Was it worth the effort?
@HeavenReservation Yes, and I also replaced every bushing in the entire car. It is so rigid now I can't believe it. No more shuttling side to side. It feels like a new car.
@@1eyedwillie Ok, thanks for telling me, my suspension is still sloppy, we installed nearly all areas except the sway bars and those batman wings.
Great tips about the bushings! Another great video, Chris.
Those bushings are designed to work with the steel sleeve removed. They will fit with that piece removed.
Just remove the shells and they fit perfectly dude! Sheesh 🙄
Now I know how to replace the bushing. Thanks again.
Awesome job buddy!! 👍🏻~John
Thanks 👍
Very informative..thanks
Great job!!
Thanks
I've had that problem before where I'll buy parts months in advance of a project. And then you find out a certain part had a manufacturing defect or it just doesn't work with it being an aftermarket part that wasn't made to spec. And then it's too late to return it.
Actually you should grease both the inside and outside the bushing. The majority of squeaking you get is when the bushing rubs back and forth on the outside.
Nice....
Thanks
Dude, You didn't remove the steel shell the rubber bushing was in. That needs to be cut/split out, then your polyurethane bushing fit (without having to turn them down).
Great job Chris 👍 just wondering how's the C5 Corvette do you get to drive it much
The C5 is great. I drive it at least once a week.
Chris: off topic and maybe I missed it in the paint predicament vid, but what ceramic product did you use on the C4?

Hi, this polihuretane bushing don't work un few time they start to crack.
But thanks for your publication
What did you use to shave down the bushings?
Wondering, could you have frozen the bushings and used silicone spray? You are in the desert in the summer. So did they grow more than the aluminum bat wings?
No, the bushings would elongate and would not fit back in the body if I did not modify them like I did. Pressing them in wasn’t the issue.
Great video. Any idea on how many mm you shaved down. ?? I'm doing the same job and my bushing measures 55 mm and the batwing is 50 mm so I'm wondering how far to shave down. ??
Probably 2-3mm.
Thanks a lot. I shaved them down to 53 mm and they slipped right in with my c clamp and a piece of wood on the other side.
I have a 1990 c4, 35000 miles, when I turn right or left under light throttle I get a high pitch noise. Any idea of what it might be? Thanks
Sounds like differential. Change the fluid.
you make me wish i had a hydraulic press!
$200 at Harbor Freight. It has paid for itself many times. www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-shop-press-32879.html
C&S Corvettes partnered with Super Pro out of Australia to fix the problem. Yes you can't find rubber, and the polyurethane is good one day until it's falling apart on you. Plus they squeak . The ones made for our C4's by Super Pro are hands down better than polyurethane bushings. C&S Corvettes have a CZcams channel . I don't like doing a job and then having to do it over .
Yes I know, I mentioned this is the video.
How did you shave down the bushimgs?
Bench grinder. You can use sand paper too.
Love these kinda “how to’s” Chris! Not being a trained mechanic and never having messed with suspension bushings, why is it you should not grease the outer part? Won’t it squeak if not?
It’s not supposed to move.
@@mycorvettelife Ahh…ok, then just the inside moves a little then?
Should have used SuperPro… poly suck
It seems that they should just fit without having to shave them down. A real amateur would probably ruin them.
They should, but they rarely do. Even the PFADT bushings I used for my C5 weren't perfect.
Superpro would be the go to imo.
I mentioned this in the video and put a link to them in the description.
@@mycorvettelife I had saw that. Just figured I'd say it too though simply because when I questioned it on mine I found out rubber is unobtanium lol. There was a lot of discussion on the fourms over the last year or two on the super pro parts. Expensive but worth it.
Guess the old saying, "you get what you pay for is true". Too bad they don't tell you these thing and you have to find out the hard way and end up spending more money in the end.
Steve
This is the biggest thing wrong with CZcams!
While I applaud your effort. At no point have you corrected your huge error in competence and knowledge.
Others have enlightened you to the fact that you really don’t know what you’re doing and ground down your new bushings because you didn’t remove the metal sleeves that are part of your oem bushings! Wtf?? 4 years as a hobbyist aint sh!t. Let me know when you’ve got 10 or more years under your belt doing this as a career…
Research the job before you try teaching others how to do the job. I swear it’s the blind leading the blind right here. And when others ask you how you did what you shouldn’t have done, instead of righting your lack of knowledge and letting them know you should have removed the sleeve instead of sanding down your “cheap” bushings. You make it a point to flame the manufacturer of the bushings that are probably the correct diameter and put links to the “good stuff” as you put it.
Even if other buy what you consider to be good. They will still need to modify those bushings if they follow your instructions…. Lol.
Good job buddy. Next do you plan to make a video about muffler bearing replacement. How to add blinker fluid to a c4 or how to replace the piston return springs??? Smh. I wonder how many people will read this then search the “how to” on those repairs….
I would have more respect toward you if you admitted your error and noted the correct way to do this procedure. Is that really too much to ask????
