Ultimate MX Hauler dirt bike hitch carrier review - Ultimate MX Hauler motorcycle hitch carrier
Ordered one today....they are sold out everywhere in summer 2023 it seems the spring riders bought em all up and they are making new batches to ship in a few weeks. Thats testament to the product.
Oh wow!! I'm glad you got your hands on one. Enjoy it
Super chill. I like.
Same it’s super awesome
I haven't even bought my motorcycle yet, and I just purchased this carrier. I even need to get a hitch installed too. LOL, This contraption is so much better than anything else I've seen, and I've seen a lot. Thank you so much!
That’s awesome man. Praise God this video was helpful. I absolutely love this carrier
These carriers are good because you can use them as an engine stand to change out tires and chains etc.
I’ve done it before lol
Love the family in the background :) Thanks for the great review!
Praise Jesus for the family :) and thanks for watching! Blessings to you brotha
The biggest sale point for me, is that it doesn't put stress on your forks. 500$ but it will save me from having to do fork seals every year
Yeah I really like that too
Fork seals take 30 mins to replace my guy 😂
@hey it's pete Thank you! Its actually good for the forks to be held at tension. Its weird that this is even a thing people say anymore.
should still service your forks every year lol
Nice video. You skipped a step though. After tightening down the upper pin, you should release the bottle jack. This will rest the weight on the pin, locking it in as well as prolong the life of the bottle jack.
Thank you for the tip. Really appreciate it.
I was wondering the same thing. Thanks!
Can you open the hatch on your 4 runner with the bike lowered?
@ryanheidenfeld6433 Now that's a great question.
The safety cotter pin goes through the hole in that security bolt.
Yeah you are right and thank you for pointing it out
Video was super chill. Easy.
Glad you liked it!
This is amazing, Very compact aswell.
Thanks for having No annoying back ground music too, Cheers..
Praise God you found this video helpful. And really appreciate the support
I bought one off ebay for $375 new shipped in a wooded crate..it was not avertized as MX hauler in the add but the paperwork in the box says it is..I run a lifted 99 Hoe on 35s so my bike is a dead lift to get it up on the platform but beats hauling a bike trailer on the camp trails..I do use a 2 inch ratchet strap on platform to bike frame as extra mental security but feel my Hondas CRF frame reinforcement areas around the foot rest are strong enough to hang the bike upside down from ..I just prefer being critical of securing for travel ..I will mention if you have a sloppy fitting receiver fitment the platform will move around and the bike will bounce from side to side ..in my case I had a stop strip welded to the MX hauler tongue to take up any end play after the receiver pin is set..that will vary from receiver hitch to receiver hitch brands...
I also added remote lighting since the bike blocks half of my tail lights ..a LED stop light on the hauler platform that plugs into my hitch lighting so HWY patrol dosent hassle me ..
Hey man, thanks for sharing and yes this hauler is especially perfect for what you are doing. My hauler came with the bolt that you have to tighten thru the receiver and that get rids of all the slack.
This is brilliant carrier. It probably not recommended to use for big bikes like my 500 because the fact that the whole bike is resting on the skid plate and that's aluminum, it will definitely break soon. Am I wrong?
❤ also makes a good service platform to change tires or other repairs.
You are absolutely right
There is a pretty significant design flaw with the U-MX... The silver retaining strap that goes around the jack is very weak and stretchable. After a while, it will fatigue and fail on you. There is a similar system that uses a better jack clamp system that prevents the jack from twisting. Look at the Switch Hauler system. Also, you didn't properly install your kotter pin. It needs to go through the hole to lock properly.
Yeah it’s not a bulletproof setup but it has been working great for me 😁
Ive been thinking of ways to increase the torsional rigidity of this and I think I may have found a relative cheap way. I would drill two sets of holes for eye bolts. Two in the bumper and two in the center of horizontal table where the bike sits on. Then when the bike is on and everything is raised into its set place. I would attach two short Fast Gun clamps to it and tighten them up. I think it would do wonders for stabilizing the bike while going off road. What do you think?
I’ve had mine for 8 years and no issues. So not sure what you mean.
As someone who just built an 03 RM250, sell that thing while it runs and get a 03 and up yz250. RM parts are hard to find and expensive when you do. The YZ has been largely unchanged since 99 and almost everything interchanges. Parts availability better than any other bike made today.
I agree I got 99 and they don’t make new cranks for it got to rebuild everything from stock
Please use washers.
Look up the benefits if you'd like, but it makes everything last longer and if you tighten the bolt it will hold for longer even after rattling.
Oh wow I didn't know that. Thank you for pointing this out
@@tronixster i appricate your cooment thank you for letting me know how thankful you are for what i have done for you. Now you owe me one
I use a flat washer against the metal and then a lock washer against the flat washer and nut.
They are great until they aren't. Super nice for use as a stand. However I have had a few and the welds kept breaking, the jack kept failing. Replacing the jack is easy but the welds made me too nervous. I gave it to a welder friend and it kept going for a while. Switched to moto tote a long time ago. No perfect solutions. Just keep an eye on the welds. They only break in the middle of nowhere!
Hey Jeremy, thanks for sharing. Welds was the last thing on my mind, I'll definitely check out all the welds. Cuz haul butt with my dirt bike loaded lol but so far it has been serving me well
Thanks for the great video Paul. I ordered one a few days ago. I think I m gonna feel a bit nervous having the bike secured from the pegs.. Any issues with bike's security while on the road ?
Hey man, i've never had any issue using this carrier. Don't even stress over it dude.
Where did you get the gas tank holder attachment? I love that!
Double comment
Do yourself a favor and get a Switch Hauler instead. Very happy with what I have thrown at my Switch Hauler.
I’ll check it out and see what Switch Hauler is all about but so far I’m very happy with my Ultimate MX hauler.
You are supposed to use ratchet straps from the handle bars to the carrier plate under the motorcycle frame. No way I would travel even 1 block like this. In a sudden maneuver the back wheel of the bike could hit the road / ground, causing drivers behind you to panic. Totally unsafe.
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve actually starred using strap. I felt better about it
Your a bloody fairy it won't budge 😂😂
@@user-jr1bl6tc3k: Your boyfriend calls you derogatory names so you call others the same names. That’s not very nice.
@@ginoasci2876 you fairy
So nice. I knew you could do it With a car Jack. Perhaps you could lower the platform to make it easier to mount the bike on that platform. Greetings fron Honduras
Thanks for the comment brotha and blessings to you in Honduras.
super chill
Sup Tom you too :)
I was on the fence in getting one good video bro
Praise God, I'm glad I was able to help you make a decision.
The foot pegs are strong but they arent so strong they wont break. I like the system but I would weld on extra spots to still strap from. A failure would be...... unacceptable.
I was skeptical at first and drove very carefully but after couple of years I gained so much confidence in my foot pegs that I just drive and don’t even think about it.
I really like it, very sturdy, price is a bit stiff, I would buy it though.
Yeah I do recommend it and I got it used.
I wish this would work with my KTM690....the weight specs in no problemat 350 but these don't have double down tubes so the bile would be on it's engine bottom.....aside from that I would NOT want to have to lift my bike onto that think! Hernia time! It should be designed to be lower than any MX bike dirt bike's skid plate then you could simply put vehicle in reverse and back the listing pad under the motorcycle easy peasy
They have a different model that has a beam across the platform and it drops to the ground. I am thinking of getting one of those for my ktm 690
Oh wow I didn’t know that. But over all I’m very happy with this carrier. It’s durable, compacts and gets the job done 😁
The safety pin goes through the hole in the pin, not around it.
Lol I know but it's so hard to put it in and pull it out so I just put it around. But you are right
Hey Paul - great video. Quick question: It's been a few months since this video . . . how is the hauler holding up? I've seen a few people recommend keeping a spare bottle jack on hand just in case the first one fails. Any challenges with any of the components on the hauler? Thank you!
Hey man. This hauler is holding up really well, zero issues. Bottles jack failing is very unlikely honestly but if it ever does you can ask someone to help you pick up the bike while you install safety pin or you can use your car's native jack. I hope this helps. Over all this is solid hauler
Pretty chill
Glad you liked it
Man, I would not trust the connection point at the foot pegs, there needs to be more holding the bike to the base plate of the unit. Very novel design aside from that though. The steel plate structure is thick, looks like it's quarter inch plate and eighth inch in different areas. You gotta get rid of any moments of movement where possible in designs like this. I hope it serves you and others well.
Hey man, I had it for couple of years and so far zero issues.
Dope video totally buying this thanx
nice video man!! cool how your family was hanging out with you!!
Praise God and I'm happy you found this video helpful :)
I'd rather see it set up with turning buckles instead of bolts and nuts like the rock and roll or ride and roll orange carrier system does same price to just looked on eBay for the one you are showing 750
Do you have link to the other carrier you are talking about ?
wonderful description! do you think there is an adater available to a ball tow bar??
Hey man, I'm not sure about the ball tow bar adapter. You might have to do some research on that
wash your windscreen with rain-x, you'll almost never use your wipers at speed when it rains
😂 bro I just did that last week
I wouldn't like to have to lift my bike up on it.(300 lbs). And I don't think I'd trust using just the foot pegs to hold it on.
So interesting how many people are concerned about the strength of the foot pegs. I had zero issues ever
Thank you...Sir
Most welcome and may God bless you
Good vid re how it works but what a complete pita. Way too many pieces to keep track of + needing tools. Hope that bottle jack never fails. IMHO, of course.
Way too time consuming
Yeah it's actually super dimple and robust system. But yeah anything could break
bro legit 3 minutes and it's loaded
This takes like 5% of the time as using ratchet straps on a different style hitch hauler. No idea what you are talking about.
Best video because your Wife and Baby photo bomb your video, so cute. Now I have to watch the video over again. Cool bike rack, We need to get one.
Lol I'm glad you loved the photo bomb. Have fun getting a carrier you'll like it. May God bless you
the safety cotter pin goes through the hole
That's true but it was pain in the butt to get in there
OK mr. Washington, im on Vancouver island. Were could i buy one of thoses .great idea..
And buy a ktm bro.lol.
Good vid
I'm happy you like it. I bought mine used but here's the link for the new one:

Nice review. Sir I would to know can it use for a mini bike like KTM 50sx. Thank you very much!
I believe it should work for smaller bike, cuz holes are are fairly large
@@tronixster thank you very much!
According to the website it does not work with a 2019 klx 250.
Oh no! I’m sorry dude
I guess your hauler is fine, as long as you like riding by yourself.
Yeah this is great for personal transport needs. We all have our own trucks and SUVs. We drive up to the trails alone, ride and book it home to our families lol
I like this and see no issues, except one. But it has to do with other people. If someone rear ends you it could total your bike depending on the impact. That’s one reason why truck or trailer is better, but other than the risk of people running into your bike I think these racks are great, especially if you don’t have anywhere to store a trailer and don’t have a pickup.
This is the best one for a single bike by far!
Yeah it’s nice to have different options. I guess whatever works for a person
How does that make a trailer better? If someone hits you it's causing damage no matter what.
@@TheDogDad because it is possible for all of the brunt of the damage to be absorbed by the trailer. A lot of them have gates/thick, tall walls or even fully enclosed. Damage will be done to the trailer for sure, but it possible to have the bikes unscathed depending on the intensity of the impact. I’d rather have a trailer repair and have it most likely still be road worthy right after the accident than having a lengthy bike repair and have it ruin the day planned for riding the bike.
Awesome baby photo bomb!!!
I'm glad you liked it! :)
That baba was going somewhere
She’s almost three now and going everywhere lol
Good video. Are those lowering links for your DRZ400? If so, how do they work and what size?
My bike is RM250 and those are not lowering links, they are original suspension links. This is a track bike
Looks really cool but seems overcomplicated. You have to use wrenches a bottle jack etc. Just too much going on but great idea of the concept
Bottle jack is no problem at all super simple. And originally hauler comes with different mounting rods and wing nuts but those were lost so I went to hardware store and got someone long bolts and nuts and I’m back in the game. 😁
So you have to use their pin.. what about a locking pin to keep someone from stealing the whole setup?
You can use a different locking pin if you would like
another question: what is the reall differenc between this MX Hauler and the recommended Switch Hauler ?
Bro I've just looked up Switch Hauler, never heard about it before. Looks like Switch Hauler has more adjustment and it looks more light duty but I would have to do some more research to tell the difference. I might even buy one and do a review on that too. Also Switch Hauler looks like a replica of a MX Hauler.
Wow.
I am a new follower of your channel Greetings from Sweden
Hey man! Really appreciate the support
It would be great if the plate came all the way to the ground. Thank you
Yeah that would actually be nice but you would need to have longer arms and bike would be sticking out further and put more pressure on the hitch receiver
Nice video thanks a lot ! I'm thinking about getting as it's much more practical than a trailer.
I'm just concerned about the car ? Do you think the chassis and suspensions of the car is capable of supporting 220+kg at the far bag end ?
If it's a truck or an SUV suspension will have no problem supporting this weight. Even if it's full size sedan it will be fine. As long as you don't drive with it all the time
Look up your vehicle tow hitch tongue weight rating. That will tell you. Most should accommodate the weight of a dirt bike plus carrier, but likely not something much heavier. My Tacoma has the extra tow package installed and that drastically increases the tongue weight capacity, but it still tops out under 800 lbs, to give you some idea.
You also have to factor in how far back the weight of your bike is from the hitch. Your car's hitch is rated for tongue weight at the ball, and racks like this put the weight farther back than where the ball would be...the resulting leverage creates an equivalent torque on your vehicle higher than a trailer would. Suffice to say your vehicles max tongue load should be a fair margin higher than the weight of the bike.
Is there a risk of it breaking on the highway? I’ve got a 4Runner myself and my dad wants me to sell it for a truck but I really don’t want to so I am considering a carrier like this. I’ve just heard that they’re super sketchy on the highway and I’m wondering if anyone thinks they’ll really break longterm?
thanks bud
No problem 👍
Carrier works ok, but just like bicycle racks they cover your tail lights. Not a big fan...
Hello Paul, great review! Do you still have the carrier? I do have a few questions about dimensions, as this type of carrier is not available in my country, so I have to build one by myself...your help is highly appreciated.
What's your email. I'll send you a video with all the dimensions.
Pretty sweet!
Sure is!
Can you access the rear door of your SUV with the rack down at its lowest point?
Hey man, yes you are able to access rear door if you don't have the fuel can cage installed. But 4Runners' rear glass rolls down so I use that to access my trunk
Cómo lo construyes? Podrías subir el vídeo?
Sorry don't speak spanish
I googled it but can’t find an in stock anywhere
where it could be reinforced for more load capacity?
Hey Juan, it needs zero reinforcement. This carrier is so durable, well designed and thought thru. For extra security you can throw a strap from your bars to the inside of the carries it has a special hook for it .
0:24 hi 👋😅😅
So awesome! ❤️
Put the pin through the hole
Lol you are right and I do put it thru the hole when I'm not lazy
What's the best way to carry an adventure motorcycle that's going to weigh close to 460 or 500 lbs?
If you have a truck, just throw it in the back of your truck. If you are driving an SUV use hitch bike hauler
@@tronixster I'm actually now looking to use my 2007 Honda Accord and a harbor freight trailer if I do decide to buy a motorcycle which will probably be a CRF 300l Rally. Would this be an okay setup? I've seen smaller sedan pull similar or more weight.
I'd love to have one, but can't justify that pricee tag.
Yeah they are super spendy and that's why I got mine used
Could you use this for a smaller dirt bike?like a 150r
Yes you can. It will fit perfectly on there
Check out rack and ride better setup but $595
Yeah I recommend looking for a used one.
Does the tailgate open ok without the bike loaded? It looks like it might hit the gas can carrier.
Gas can carrier does get in the way of tailgate but luckily 4Runner’s back glass rolls down. If yours doesn’t I don’t recommend using the gas can carrier
Its been out of stock for over a year...anyone have a replacement of same style?
Just type in Ultimate MX hauler on google and they tons of similar hauler that are exact copies
@@tronixster oh thanks, I will look now. Absolutely priceless invention

Praise Jesus :) and thank you for the support
Will it be good for an hatchback?
How has this held up? Do you still like it? I’m thinking about doing the same thing on a Highlander.
This setup is awesome and I'm still using it
Where did you get the gas can carrier?
I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. czcams.com/users/postUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
I actually use a strap around my bars just didn't show it in the video
Where did you buy the gas can holder? I just purchased this hauler today waiting for it to arrive now.
Nice congratulations on the purchase. Enjoy it.
You can buy gas can holder here: mojomotosport.com/products/ultimate-mx-hauler-gas-can-rack
@@tronixster thank you buddy
Are you in PA>? Im like 99% certain thats my old RM250 lol
No I'm in Vancouver, WA. I had this bike for about 4 years now
Is it possible to use a hitch lock instead of the threaded pin? I feel like it would be easy to have it stolen while you're off riding out in the desert?
Probably not but You could lock it to your car with the chain and a lock I guess.
What if u don't have foot pegs
lol if you don't have the foot pegs then you are different breed and you don't even need this dirt bike carrier
That's not how you put a cotter pin in 😮
How does this differ from the motojackrack?
I'm not familiar with that specific brand but they are all about the same. Ultimate MX Hauler is just one of the original ones. This company sells them too and it's really nice and more affordable: ebay.us/xmd1dV
Can I put a KLR650 on there?
If it's under 350 pounds than you are fine
What happens if jack breaks and ur at the track? Is there an alternative method to lift bike?
A couple of strong buddies to lift the bike up enough to lock the platform.
Yup you’ll have to ask for help or you can also use your car’s jack.

Hey man where can I find a gas can holder like the one you have??
@paul longer
This is the one you need: www.hitchsource.com/ultimate-mx-hauler-gas-can-rack-p-34888.html
Do the tires sit inline with the hitch opening? Trying to see if the bike sits higher or lower than a normal hitch hauler.
Tires hang a bit lower than the hitch
@@tronixster got my hauler already. I will need a hitch riser since my truck is lowered.
Coukd i use this on a toyota camry?
So what happens if you crash and break a foot peg off?
You bike will be flapping around or might even lose it. So please don't get into a car crash.
Carry ratchet straps just in case.
I like it 👌
Whats the tounge weight
Can you do it in Sedan ?
Hey Denis, yes you can and I've seen people do it too.
Can you use it on a small car?
yes you can. I saw a guy with Toyota Yaris who had a dirt bike mounted to the back of it
Cool but the price is stupid
