I’ve said this before but I love when you walk us through your thought process. Also the history of where the name came from. Thank you so much.
Davie, brilliant fly. You know my love for the Oak fly, and this one I am going to make up a batch of and try this season. Last year, it was no noticeable swarming of these, and the trouts were few, if any. I hope this warm summer ahead will at least bring the flies and tease at least one fish to rise. A sad development up here in the northern Scandinavia, but it's even worse in the south. Cheers, Davie!
Won these Flies in your latest draw Davie, thank you. Received by Post on Saturday while watching your latest video 👍 and managed to fish them today (Monday) on the River Ayr,, was a hard day's fishing and the trout were not playing but enjoyable as always
👍
Davie, my good friend tom from Lanark showed me a wee box from his late father to catch and keep oak flies .
Thank you every so much for teaching me to tie this ancient oak fly
Wonderful looking fly Davie, Excellent job as always!
First Stab Flee I've seen tied Davie. It certainly looks like a very good representation and I'm looking forwards to seeing you fish it in your next video. In the meantime, I'll tie a couple and see how I get on with them. Thanks for pattern, very timely. ATB
Was at Wellsfield on Sunday and there was a few of these blown onto the water some the size of blue bottles may I add.All the very best 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴

Very nice lifelike fly davie 😊
Hello Davie your fly is fantastic and I am sure it will catch well
I don't normally comment but I am pleased you are keeping stab flee fishing and our sports and heritage alive
I cannot believe how little attention the angling press has paid to this fall that procceds the Hawthorn
It is a great time of the season and as a bonus will find any sae trout that maybe about
Again Davie thank you so much
Bill
Thanks Davie, inspirational.
Another viewer asked if the stab fly was the same as a horse fly. Even if this is not meant as a horse fly, it is a remarkably life-like imitation of one of those nasty, biting (& other words I should not say) insects. I would be delighted to see a hungry trout devouring every one of them. Though I hate them, I greatly respect your skill in making one. Given the type of fly, I feel I dare not call you Chef Davie for this one.
Hi FlyTyer1948,
No the Horse fly or Clegg is a different species from the Oak/Stab Fly which doesn't bite...
I'm glad you liked the fly..
All the very best Davie
Wow, I like your flytying. Amazing how you do it all. Greetings from Belgium.

I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. And Stab Flea it is... =]
Mike

Wha a fabulous looking fly. Not to realistic. but very very appealing I;d say. A great balance. :-)
Top Class 👋!
Brilliant davie will meed to try this boys were talking about it on tbe doon Valley page other day ,looks deadly pal
Excellent. this might even make a passable crane fly.
Lovely fly thanks Davie - looks a bit like a horse-fly👍
Великолепно 👍🤝🙋♂️
🔥🔥🔥👍🏻🍻
Is that a horse fly /cleg ?? I used to collect caddis flies during a hatch in a matchbox and put them on a size 14 or 16 kamasan and just lightly cast them out ,every cast to a rise caught a trout without fail. Learned that from a nice older gentleman who used to fish them that way.
This looks a lot like what we call a deer fly in the US.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
❤❤🎉🎉😊😊
🇨🇿CZ. 👍 super 👍 👋
Brilliant. Random question Davie have you ever had problems with mites or bugs in materials? I’ve had a couple of bad experiences and it’s given me the fear. I got a JC cape that had mites but it was free so I stuck it in the freezer for a couple of weeks but i’m scared to put it in with my other materials.
the freezer won't kill eggs, put it in the microwave for 10 seconds. Repeat 3 times
You might try Diatomaceous Earth. Safe for you and I used it when I had goats and chickens.
@@ross1458 Believe it or not I have some of this already I used it in my fish tank a few years ago so still have some in the shed. It’s an oak fish tank and there’s nooks and crannies you can get into with a sponge so this worked great for mites. Think they came from a fruit bowl my wife sat on top of the tank.
Hi GT,
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you..I never worry about mites as they can be easily dealt with, 10 to 15 seconds in the microwave and a week or so in the freezer usually deals with them and then replace the packaging so that you can keep an eye on the cape just incase they come back..I've never had them do this after treating them like this..
I'm glad you enjoyed the video..
All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail Thanks Martyn/Michael and thanks again Davie for taking the time to reply.
Where do you buy such quality CDC?
Hi Ray,
I bought these feathers from a company called Premier Angling in Ireland so I have attached a link to their website and CDC for you to see.
