    Nostalgia comes to mind when I hear or see Greenwels patterns mentioned after black spiders and Penels which where the first flies I ever learned to tie along came greenwels glory and derivatives of them
    This brilliant wee nymph will be added to my main box I cary in my breast pocket easy to get to for a quick change if my matching the hatch fails although these might well be a great match to a hatch and I’ll add a little bit of lead foil during the tying to aid getting down to those tricky fish hiding behind rocks on the river bed
    Once again you make it look so simple tying tasty bites to tempt both fish and fishermen I look forward to an evening with the kids tying these. Thanks Davie

    I had a tiny hackle fiber in my screen and I thought it was a stray from the tail that got caught and it was driving me crazy thinking davie made a mistake. Haha imagine that, davie making a mistake.

    I was told to buy feathers from non fly tying companies and not support the fly thing company’s because they charge too much as you can buy 50 pheasant cock centre feathers for $10 online, yes it’s true, but once you get them the quality doesn’t match what you get from the fly tying company’s. For example Veniards vs online feathers there’s no contest when it comes to the dye quality and the 50 feathers just don’t make the grade.

      Hi Fly Dry River,
      Veniards do select their best feathers especially for bleaching as well as in their selected range of materials..I do at times buy bulk pheasant tails off ebay though I look out for the keepers that sell as they normally have the best feathers..I have attached a link to one that I have used..
      All the very best Davie

      @@DavieMcPhail I think i purchased 100 or 150 natural pheasant cock feathers from eBay about 2 years ago and I’m on my last feather now, they were all perfect, but the dyed ones I got were horrid compared to veniards.

    I have seen one blue wing olive in my life. They are verry small. What size hook would you go with ......18, 20?

  • @HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy
    @HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy Před rokem +2

    why do we tie everything in by the tips? is that only to help form a taper? or are there other reasons?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před rokem +2

      Hi Half Insane Outdoor Guy,
      Yes tying the pheasant tail in by the tip does help to get a nice taper in the body and tying the hen hackle in by the tip will give you the best taper and colour/markings..
      All the very best Davie
