    Shymbulak, also known as Chimbulak is a ski resort near Almaty. It is the largest resort in Central Asia for Skiing & Snowboarding. It is located in the upper part of the Medeu Valley in the Zaiilisky Alatau mountain range, at an elevation of 2,200 metres above sea level.
    You can get to Chimbulak either by private or public transport or use the services of a taxi service such as Uber, Yandex.Taxi and Maxim to reach Medeu base station and from there by gondola road to Chimbulak.
    The cable car from the base station “Medeu” to the ski resort “Shymbulak”, is the 3rd longest in the world.
    Buses 6 and 12 leave every half hour in front of the Hotel Kazakhstan and go up all the way to Medeu along Dostyk avenue. Taxis will cost around 2000 tenge one way.
    From Medeu, you pay for entrance (show some ID) and take the gondola up to the Shymbulak resort (15$ round-trip). From there, the ski lifts start. You can take 3 ski lifts and go to the higest point.
    The winter sports season in Almaty usually starts from late November/ early December and continues until late March, depending on the season and the snowfall.
    Once you’re at the cable car station, you have to purchase a day pass that will allow you to go up to the ski resort.
    You can either choose a round-trip from the bottom of the mountain to the base of the ski resort, which is 2500 tenge (adult)/ 1500 tenge (kid) per person or you can get a combi-pass for 4500 tenge (adult)/ 2500 tenge (kid) that includes the 3 cable cars needed to go all the way up (and back) to the highest point of the ski resort, which is at an altitude of 3200 meters.
    The first time you buy a pass for the cable car, you’ll have to pay an additional 2000 tenge for the pass itself.
    SKI PASSES:
    One-day ski pass weekdays (cable car and ski lifts included): 6500 tenge (adults)/ 3000 tenge (kids)
    One-day ski pass weekends (cable car and ski lifts included): 9500 tenge (adults)/ 4500 tenge (kids)
    Night skiing (Thursdays and Saturdays): 5500 tenge (adults)/ 2500 tenge (kids)
    Season pass, valid from the start until the end of the skiing season, includes cable car and ski lifts,
    skiing on weekdays, weekends and at night: 300.000 tenge (adult), 220.000 tenge (youth from 11y. - 23 y.), 150.000 tenge (kids)
    The following services are provided for visitors: a cable car, a hotel, a ski and snowboard school, equipment rental and repair, a sporting goods store, a restaurant, a bar, a coffee shop, a bakery, a playground, entertainment programs and competitions. Also, for extreme sports there are paragliding, cycling down the mountain, buggy rides and hiking with a professional guide. From family entertainment for you "Rope Park". The hotel complex "Shymbulak Resort Hotel" offers its services: a cafe, a sauna and 50 comfortable rooms with a beautiful view of the picturesque mountain peaks.
    The resort is open all year round. Even in the warm season, when the mountains are no longer suitable for skiing, you can find a lot of interesting things here.
    The best part of the resort is the ample availability of hotel, restaurants, cafes and coffee shop offering a variety of cuisines, in fact there is a hotel located in the resort where you can stay in the night after a hectic ski day.
    ASSORTI - Located at the Shymbulak Ski Resort, the main restaurant Assorti is a foodie’s paradise as it serves yummy pizzas and good drinks. Open from 10 am to 9 pm on weekdays and 10am to 11pm on weekends, Assorti serves local, European and Japanese Cuisines as well. With their huge collection of wines and kebabs, one can spend an entire evening there with family and friends.
