    I've bought from Beam paints from the very beginning before they even had pans and they have had some growing pains. The early stuff I found hard to reactivate with sometimes minimal pigmentation, but as they have improved their process that has gotten better. But they key for me is that they are a Canadian, female and indigenous owned. Supporting businesses by Canadian indigenous women is a must for me! Thanks for the review!

    I absolutely love the beautiful and artistic family history behind their brand . Their packaging of the watercolors is so creative . I love how they call the watercolors “ paint stones” . The colors are beautiful ❤

    I’d love to get a set like that with the Kaweko pen! I just noticed today that there is the option to customize the colours that come in the set.

      No, but at least there are 4 different set options. That helps!

    I don't think your brain ever rests. Your painting is fabulous. I love everything about it. Your creative visions never cease to amaze me. Closed my eyes and tried to see something creative. 75 year old brain said "are you kidding me?"

    I paint with beam paints a lot as they are more affordable than the big name brands where I live. Each colour has its own personality. The more I paint with them, the easier they rewet.

    My husband made me a wooden palette. He routered out holes the size of the paint pans and they fit in nice and snug. I find they are very hard on my brushes because the paint is course and grainy. I still use them, but I use old brushes when I do.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  Před 4 měsíci +2

      That's a great idea for the palette! Good idea to use old brushes - I'll do the same.

    my first paint stones are in the mail, but like you have not seen alot of people using them. i also use a deviled egg plate for mixing, so that made me giggle a bit. i pick up my normal pans so picking these up won't bother me. i mostly got their mica colors for interesting highlights, i expect those might not be as juicy but it will depend more on the pigments used as they are natural pigments.

    Last night I reorganized my collection of Beam paints. I took 3M double sided tape on the bottom of a small wooden cigar box that my husband got for me. Yes, you have to push each down to attach but it works. When I paint with them, I take out the colors I want to use and hold in my hand like you. They are really nice for handmade paints but Masha watercolors on Etsy is still my favorite 🎉❤😊

      I saw a Masha video yesterday and it really made me want to try them! But then she mentioned the price and I changed my mind, lol. Good to know the 3M tape will work - thanks!

      @@MirandaWatsonArt I buy her heart watercolor pans which are less expensive. They are adorable and come alive with a wet paintbrush. She always sends several dot cards with every order. For Christmas I purchased her feather paint palette and she sent me a couple cute little brush rests. You’d probably get hooked like me 🤣

    i fix the beam paints to a small tray with museum putty and it works well. The colors i have had most trouble with are cloudless sulphur and red clay but most of them re-wet well for me. Favorites I have are Great Ocean, Fall Poplar Yellow, Strawberry, and Pine Green. I love their sparkly iridescent/metallic colors, especially Wild Salmon, Glacier, Dreamer's Gold, and Orca. Wish there were more reds and earth colors :)

    9:03 since the cover is beeswax paper, I would heat it up with a hairdryer or heatgun, take the paint out of the beeswax wrapper. Then the paint could be placed in a plastic full or half pan, to fit into a traditional metal palette to take with me. Alternative, the paint could go in to those plastic (Mijello type) stay wet palettes with slanted wells. Lovedyour painting and the use of maskingfluid was perfect for it

    I have a few Beam paints but I didn’t buy any of the paint stones like you have. I bought 2 little wooden blocks that have a small selection of paints secured. I have a block with three primary colours and another block with 5 paints in a colour family. Presumably the amount of paint for each colour in my sets is just over a half-pan (5/8 pan size). Anyway, I don’t have to worry about them sliding around and they look really cute in the circular birch palettes. The colours I have definitely do not have any rewetting issues at all and they’re all very vibrant. I haven’t replaced any colours, so I’m not familiar with consistency between batches. I’m not sure I’d purchase the individual paint stones because I do like my paints to be a bit “secure” in something when I use them. I do enjoy their paint though. Great review as always!

    Hi Miranda! Nice to see you’ve shared this Beam Paints review. The Burnt Sienna not reactivating would drive me crazy. It also seemed very weekly pigmented-is that true or just my monitor?
    I’m sadly not a fan of the Beam Paints. They just aren’t for me; I know a lot of artists really enjoy them.Still, the Boreal and the Cherry mix looks really intriguing on your swatch sheets.
    Your painting came out beautifully! Honestly the contact paper was a great idea-saved you the step of softening the edges!
    I do like Kaweco fountain pens-I hope you continue to enjoy it!
    Re: the paint stones in the tin…maybe use some poster putty? A little ball of it might work to adhere them to the tin.
    Have a great week🤠👩🏻‍🎨🫶🏼

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It's not your monitor, sadly. It is a weakly pigmented color. The poster putty is a good idea. I just found some in my drawer yesterday so I give it a try.

    Lovely piece. Does the wrapping of each paint feel like it would get wet and mushy as you get further into the paints? It looks like they're wrapped in paper of some sort rather than a plastic pan?

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  Před 4 měsíci +5

      I regret not explaining the paint and wrapping more in the video. I realized that after I published it, oops. The "pans" they sit in are cloth covered in beeswax. I think they'll be quite resistant to water and be reusable as well!

      @@MirandaWatsonArt oh that's cool to know. I like the little tin and the pen and brush, more than I was excited by the paints. But your painting was cool - well done on the patience for that masking fluid, I'd have given up on it, ha ha. Great effect though, I love it.

    I’d purchased a few of these…I’m just not a fan. They act just like some of my 2yr old, VERY Dry, and crumbly Jasper Stardust. Harder to work with…and the 3 that aged like this-they’re in a drawer of rarely used paints..just in case I need a VERY granulating, dull umber, a dark Bordeaux , or dark teal. (I added glycerin per Rick..but they just aren’t like my other handmade paints or ones I mulled myself. I. Did take out some of the loose paint chips from Bordeaux and umber and let them sit and soak for a bit with gum Arabic and QOR’s medium. I was hoping they’d break down. No luck..just small rocklike pieces suspended in a slightly colored, still dull foo. 🤷🏼‍♀️. I haven’t tried this on my Beam paints yet. My friend Liz suggested using my Chinese mediums/binders. They worked REALLY well on some antique paint chips I had. My only issue is this mingjiao (highly processed, unscented fish glue from recycled fish bones) OR Peach Sap gum (similar to gum Arabic)- both are pretty expensive and I’m down to my last little bags. I want to get some more. PB33 and make it into some traditional paint.

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  Před 4 měsíci

      I really like the idea of these paints and the execution of the little pans they sit in, but they aren't my first choice at this point. I'm glad I own a few, though. The Burnt Sienna is a bummer for me because that's one of my most-used colors. Oh well.
