Same as Detroit. Very rich and amazing around 1900, backbone of manufacturing in both World Wars, now a toilet for good for nothing tribals and drug addicts.
I had the same thoughts when watching the video. Baltimore as a municipality only maintains select history, there are plenty of ruined areas there. I would also think that in any given space in certain parts of town you wouldn't have to look far too find homeless folks and needles and trash are everywhere. Charm city, hon... The city that bleeds.
Awesome video. William Patterson was the patriarch of the family with shipping and banking interests. Robert was one of his sons and he himself also owned ships and founded several businesses including the Bank of Baltimore. William and his wife Dorcas had thirteen children. Their daughter Elizabeth was married to Jerome Bonaparte, Napoleon's brother. There is a Facebook page for a volunteer organization that does occasional clean-up days at the cemetery.
Oftentimes boyscouts will make third eagle scout project maintaining old cemeteries, parks, wooded areas etc. It's possible that a scout will come out to do that maintaining.
I am so happy I found this channel. I have lived in Maryland very near Baltimore City most my life. I now work in Pest Control and make regular trips into the city. It's nice to see someone exploring the history of some of the places I drive past during my work week.
Dan glad to see that you are doing videos of historical things instead of dirty motels. Thank You! Are you planning on doing more of these types of videos? Are you going to be doing any more Dead Malls?
Hi Dan! Loved this! I know the Apollo but did not know the cemetery. Going to look it up on Google maps. I'd like to see it when I come up this fall!! As always, fascinating work. Cindy
Excellent video Dan , I like old cemeteries , there's just something about them. A few years ago I went into the cemetery where Edgar Allan Poe is buried and while being the only visitor there I definitely did not feel like I was alone. I remember going to the Hippodrome in 1966 to see " Tbe Blue Max " and " The Battle of the Bulge " War Movies. Thanks for all the great videos., keep up the good work and please be safe.
So Kool and I'm doing my ancestry again and the Patterson's that your talking about I think are in my family tree. Love the video, especially historical sites.
**HOORAY!! THAT ADRENALIN BOOST I GET UPON RECEIVING A NEW NOTIFICATION FROM YOUR CHANNEL: PRICELESS!! OOOH CEMETERIES ARE RIGHT UP MY ALLEY** What a tremendous way to kick off my weekend. Sooo glad you're safe & posting again. Nice to hear your voice. Hope you have a wickedly wonderful weekend :0)
Is this family whom "The Patterson Park" is named after? So cool. I didn't know Bmore had an Apolo theater too. It must wasn't as popular as the NYC one. This is why I love your channel cuz I live in MD and there is so much history I've yet to learn.
God knows something like paying taxes would NEVER go overlooked!!🤣The buildings & environments may fall into disrepair or be abandoned, but someone will always be available to charge & collect the property taxes on them!!😂
Well they offered the property to the city and the city refused it, so even if the taxes weren't paid, they obviously didn't want to seize it. Then they'\d be responsible for it.
Always wondered what the Apollo was like inside. I happened upon it years ago while visiting my sister. Who by the way has performed at the Hippodrome, which yes is an awesome venue.
Nice vid Dan🙂👍 I have a question tho... is that cemetery just for certain ppl or just the Patterson family members... or can anyone be buried there (with permission or... ?) Also... is anyone still being buried there? Lol...I know, I know dumb questions, but I am legitimately curious. 😁 have a great day.😉
Are there sirens always going off in Baltimore? I've been there a few times but mainly at touristy attractions lol. Also I hope you're doing well Dan. And I hope you're moderating the alcohol. Take care
Has anyone every heard of or been to Mickey and Sadie's bar? It was at 100 Albemarle St. I haven't been able to locate them online. The last time I was there was when my dad passed away in the hospital near Johns Hopkins University hospital. Mickey and Sadie were friends of his and took care of the funeral arrangements for me, as I lived in New Jersey. I had never met them in person, but my dad talked about them a lot and had lived above the bar while he was in the Merchant Marines. He passed away over fifty years ago, in 1967. I hope someone remembers my dad. His name was Jeff Davis.
I think it's wonderful that the cemetery is still left unbothered by the city all these years later! I hope it stays there for many years to come. I may have to drop by this place, I'm relatively close to here.
I enjoyed the video Dan, how about a tour and history chat video about the druid park cemetery in druid hill park and the parks history about the Druid Family.
Dan, I'm not sure when the Apollo Theater building was finally abandoned, but if you look at the photo from Google Street Map, the glass doors in the front were still intact as of the date on the picture, which was October 2014. So it's a fair guess that it was being used up to or very close to that date.
They have elevated cemeteries like this all over Europe, their retaining walls usually beside sidewalks in cities. Caretaker is likely private, perhaps hired by lawyers dealing with the estate. Established in 1793; that's nicely old, for Murka. It's eerie inside the place, claustrophobic and secluded. It'd be a great place to shoot a horror movie. Or do a ghost hunt, although current wisdom is ghosts don't hang around cemeteries, and who could blame 'em? Very cool place.
This place is so weird. I went there and it was locked up. Found some interesting very old glass and porcelain in the ground outside, I read that the surrounding area was a dump for years? WHO THE HECK IS CARING FOR IT. Also Dan, please do a piece of St Peter’s Apostle cemetery in west Baltimore! Very weird and creepy place.
“Out with their dad.... *John Wayne Gacy.* ” 😂 I was not expecting that omg
Baltimore has so much beautiful history. It’s just sad that people keep Destroying it
Yea THOSE people
I live close to Patterson. This city is in disrepair. Moving from here next week. Can not wait.
Same as Detroit. Very rich and amazing around 1900, backbone of manufacturing in both World Wars, now a toilet for good for nothing tribals and drug addicts.
Sadly, its not only in Baltimore that sort of thing is happening, its ALL over.
In all honesty, the cemetery would most likely be in worse condition if the City of Baltimore owned/managed the property.
I'm sure someone would love to volunteer to care for it, the graveyard is a beautiful piece of history.
If this was in Seattle or Portland, it would be choke full of tents, garbage, needles, & the homeless.
*Baltimore is a decaying shithole. I'm so glad I left!!*
Yeah, look what they've (not) done to maintain/update Pimlico.
And their Dad John Wayne Gacy LOL...Great Video!!!!!
I LOVE when you laugh at your own jokes. You don't even need an audience. But I love your humor, Dan.
Awesome video. William Patterson was the patriarch of the family with shipping and banking interests. Hi Dan! Loved this! I know the Apollo but did not know the cemetery. Going to look it up on Google maps. I'd like to see it when I come up this fall!! As always, fascinating work. Cindy
I grew up in Baltimore and there's a lot of mysterious things about that city.
Its a unique place for sure.
Excellent video Dan , I like old cemeteries , there's just something about them. Where have you been? I’ve missed your videos, especially ADR.
I wonder if the Patterson estate still has money to keep it maintain it? Only thing I could think of that would keep it in some form of repair.
Love you Dan and would love to start seeing videos on your other channel

I miss you Dan!
reminds me of The Lamar, a beautiful old theater in Memphis thats been abandoned forever.
i am obsessed with this kinda content!
I've lived there all my life was the first to go to that school in the back ground and always wondered what it was thank you !!
"You've always been the caretaker..." -Mr. Grady
When will you release another Dead Mall video on your main channel? It's been forever :)
I just get my dead mall fix from Ace's Adventures now.
Is this family whom "The Patterson Park" is named after? So cool. I didn't know Bmore had an Apolo theater too. It must wasn't as popular as the NYC one. This is why I love your channel cuz I live in MD and there is so much history I've yet to learn.
Can it be living relatives to the Patterssons that are the current caretakers of the cemetery? Another great video, thanks Dan!
Thanks Dan
Dan Bell and Proper People= best urbex channels on CZcams
Thank you very nice
great video
Somebody has to be paying "property taxes" on the cemetery.
I lived in B More my whole life and I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t realize there was so much abandoned history here. Thanks for the video
Always wondered what the Apollo was like inside. I happened upon it years ago while visiting my sister. Who by the way has performed at the Hippodrome, which yes is an awesome venue.

Hey Dan🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️ How is everything?
Brilliant. Absolutely fascinating. from new zealand.
I enjoyed the video Dan, how about a tour and history chat video about the druid park cemetery in druid hill park and the parks history about the Druid Family.
I would love that and maybe the review of the murder of the lady in the lake!
Salimah yesssss I was thinking about that too she swam over to the lake and then died on the fountain...
@@TonisWorld07 I remember it was told that she went to a James brown concert and that she was a bar maid or something but it was really strange
Salimah my daddy use to tell me the story all the time almost every time we rode past it. She left behind a child as well.
*YES THIS* ^^
I remember going to the Apollo theater when i was a kid wow so sad to see it just go to waste smh
You hanging with the proper people 👍
people in baltimore seem to do exactly the oppsite of what the sagn says
This is why Baltimore is my *favorite city*...and why people call me *crazy*,for thinking that.
All those people exploring the theater is like the Infinity War of urbex

Pretty cool, liked
I love old abandoned cemeteries.
There is definitely more to that Patterson cemetery. Keep following up on it, the layout is freaky.
The religious sign on the back wall of the Apollo still looks brand new!
Why does Thriller & Adams fam comes to my mind watching this.. 🤔😂
Love old, abandoned theaters. ❤️
The cemetery is a perfect setting for a ghost story. Well, both places are.
I'm a simple woman. A see that Dan Bell has uploaded a new video, I watch.
Same here... gender aside. 😀
Stop trying to be unique
Brilliant
