Just from past experience I would add. Don’t count on the atm at the expos. Most of the time they run out of money.

Oh buddy the urge to impulse buy new stuff at expos! 😂😂 I know better tho, I just take mental notes for future purchases. I haven't been to one since pre-covid and I have the ITCH.

Great list! Another thing would be to bring stuff you might have at home to trade. I've taken slings, roaches, isopods, plants, etc and traded them for other plants, isopods, feeders, etc. It's fun for both parties because you each end up getting something you want for something you don't want. Also, if you know what vendors will be there, you can often ask them ahead of time what they'll be bringing to the expo. I find it easier to make decisions that way.

This was incredibly helpful!!! I skipped the last local NARBC expo because I was overwhelmed by the complexity of it all, but I’m going to hit the next one with these tips. Thank you so much!!! ❤

Your SO right on every point !!
I’m in Cali & our expos are mostly all reptiles. I’m wanting tarantulas.
The last really big show I went to had 4 tarantula dealers 😳
My friend works with Nate so I am very lucky their. I’ve been looking for a 3 inch grammostola roses RCF for a very long time 😳

I agree 💯!!! You definitely need a budget going to an expo specially if you’re strictly into reptiles, can cost you an arm, leg & kidney 😂 Now that I’m into tarantulas my budget is more flexible ❤️🕷️ Impulse buying is risky for both owner & animal and really irresponsible, don’t do it. Great first new video!

I love bringing stuff to trade or sell to vendors, that's another great way to get a good deal!
Currently I exclusively keep invertebrates, many of which breed prolifically. Many vendors are very much happy to deal in "bug dollars." I've gotten all sorts of things in trades, including isopods, plants, feeders, substrate, cork bark, and even a Squishmallow!
Some stuff to keep in mind doing trades, though:
    1. Check the show's rules on trading first. Some forbid it entirely, and some have limits to it (like trades and sales being only allowed between attendees and vendors, and not between attendees).
    2. Put a price on what you're trading. Vendors will ask how much you are asking for your item. There's room for haggling, but it's important to have a starting point. Partial trades (item and cash, on either end) are common.
    3. Ask politely. Some vendors are interested in trading, some aren't.
    4. Bring something different. You're unlikely to find a vendor interested in your wild type ball python, for example, or dairy cow isopods. I usually opt for rare springtails, mid to high end isopods, and fancy roaches. I don't bring consumables personally, but you may have success with something in demand for the type of vendor you want to trade with (ex: flake soil for invertebrate keepers).
    5. Build a relationship with vendors at your local shows. People who are open to trade once are often interested in more in the future, and will recognize you and offer species or items they think you'd like. You have to keep bringing different stuff though, the same vendor is unlikely to want more of the same species of isopod etc.
    6. Trading is the gateway activity to vending. One day you're trading uncommon springtails for dwarf white isopods, and then you blink and suddenly you have a table at a local show. 💀 Which, incidentally, is also a great way to get a lot of trades...

I always take cash and only spend that … I’m lucky I have an expo 12 mins from me every other month … actually had a vendor I have dealt with before give me a free OBT … I know they aren’t there to give stuff away so I gave them lunch money for it. I saw one vendor at expo had multiple T’s clearly different all the same common name it hurt my head so bad and they didn’t know anything about them so I walked away

You really just needed to read the description for the answer. This was the only "video" on my 2nd channel, and I moved it to my main channel.
