- Plow mount is on! In this DIY video Ezra and I (Caleb) install a boss plow mount (smart hitch 2) on our 2014 Ford F-250 with the 6.2L gas engine. Why pay someone to do something that we can do ourselves right, save a bit of money. So if your doing one of these installs on a Ford super duty 2008 and up year models hopefully this will help you out a bit, or if you are just interested in how these mounts are installed.
This can be done at home easily
Tools needed/we used:
Metric & Standard socket set, ratchet/breaker bar
Metric and standard wrench set
Impact gun (optional)
Lining bars
Hydraulic porta power (optional)
Drill, drill bits
hole saw to run harness into the cab
Follow the instructions in the kit
Thanks for watching!

Very nice job showing work involved in installing plows .
Yes I am doing this on my 2013 f350 with the 6.2. Very helpful. Thanks for the great advice on the installation
excellent! very helpful.. I will be doing this to my 2016 F250... Thank you for sharing this!!! Excellent narration, filming.. Answered questions I had before doing mine.
Awesome! Glad you found it helpful!
@@BlueGrassSodProducers How far did you have to hydraulically spread the 2 side pieces in order to install the center piece? I have same issue with mine. Mine I need 5/16 more space.. Afraid to spread the frame arms that much. Considering cutting and rewelding the side plate on the center piece, and shortening the center piece by 5/16.. Thanks
@@DK-vx1zc We put the porta power between the frame rails on the truck and that spread the boss brackets wide enough to slide the middle quick attach bracket up from the bottom. We took our time with that. Then you can tap it up with a hammer to the proper height. We had to spread it quite a bit it was a little nerve wracking but the frame sprung back. Just make sure you bolts are in the centre bracket before releasing the pressure or it’s very hard to line up the bolt holes.
@@BlueGrassSodProducers Worked fine with my enerpac. Thanks guys
You leave the side brackets loose and then put the center mount in then tighten them all no need for porta power
Have you ever had a problem when you lift your plow up and the headlights go dim???
Not on this truck but we have on others, we put a higher output alternator on our other trucks. It helps keep the battery charge up. It’s usually a bad/weak battery that causes it or bad/dirty connections. Load test the battery see where it’s at. If it’s low I’d say that’s the cause and check the alternator to make sure it is charging. Then check your battery connections, the plug in for your plow on the truck and plow side make sure they’re corrosion free. As well check the cables that connect to the electric pump, on the plow itself, that they aren’t loose or dirty. Also oil level in the plow. If it’s low it will put more strain on the pump and draw way more power. Just a few things I’d check hope this helps.

@@BlueGrassSodProducers Is there anyway you can do a video on how your plow wiring is running on your truck and send it to me thanks
Is there something specific that I didn’t show in the video?
One question: the switch light (BOSS LIGHT). I know that it goes in the cabin, but where should I connect it: to ground, power, positive, to the solenoid or to the relay. I want to install it on my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 but I don't know where to install it.
Do you mean the small toggle switch that switches from the truck lights to the plow lights?
Yes
If that same switch, I know that I have to attach it to the wires that come out of the control. But I don't know what wires or what color I should add them to.
If it’s the one inside the cab they just plug into the harness where it comes through the fire wall. There should be 2 wires with connectors already on them.
OK, thank you very much for your help. Very grateful and blessings.
Did that say 319,000 miles on the odometer? Damn! Original engine?
319,000 kilometres so about 198,000miles at the time, but as far as I know it’s the original engine.
@@BlueGrassSodProducers That says a lot about the 6.2 to still be running strong at almost 200k miles. Thanks for the reply.
Yes from the experience I’ve had with them they seem like a good engine.
The 2.5 " body level kit has nothing to do with the frame mounts
I know, it doesn’t have a body leveling kit… It has a suspension leveling kit which will affect plow hookup height so the plow mount has to be adjusted accordingly to that.
