- Welcome back to then channel!
So today we take a look at the Maverick iON DT - 1/18th Scale Desert Buggy!
We see how it performs on-road and then off road and in my opinion it is definitely a worthwhile RC gift for someone or as a first RC on a tight budget!
MOVEMBER
So you may notice in the video i am rocking a mustache! (DON'T LAUGH LOL)
Me and a handful of lads at work are currently supporting an event called movember which is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.
It's nice to support events like this and if you want to find out more info check here:
www.movember.com
So back to the Maverick iON DT. Would i recommend it?
Well yes i would actually but i think there are a couple other options you have to consider if you intend to buy this as a gift.
The main one is you can get a WLTOYS 144001 for the same price or sometimes less which as you know i am a massive fan of and i think even though its a clone of a LC Racing EMB-1 it still offers a lot more out of the box that something like the iON DT!
You get a better battery, transmitter and a lot of metal parts compared to this Maverick featuring a lot of plastic parts and being smaller 1/18th Scale.
Get your 144001 here: www.banggood.com/Wltoys-14400...
That said it is an enjoyable machine and for the price i can definitely recommend it as a christmas or birthday gift and would even be ideal to give to the kids to keep them happy whilst out bashing.
I certainly doesn't feel hobby grade although well built it just feels too fragile for my liking.
Plastic drive shafts also worry me should you decide to fit a mild brushless system into this!
I dont want to be all negative because there are points i do like about this but we will discuss this in the near future and maybe even a comparison to some more common budget RC's!
Hope you enjoyed!

Hope you enjoyed the video we managed to get some on road footage and off road footage of this mighty little 1/18th Scale Desert Buggy! The battery decided to die 3 mins after moving over to the wet/dirt area. Overall a nice little package and would make the ideal gift. But is it the best thing you can buy for the money? I dont think it is and that's my overall honest opinion I think the better option for the beginner would be the WLTOYS 144001 as it offers more metal parts including metal drive shafts and chassis. One of the biggest advantages of getting this would be easier access to parts compared to the 144001 and having to order parts from china. I think like all RC's this has its good points and bad points but overall very satisfied with its performance for its size and weight but personally i would choose another option. But dont let that put you off entirely this would make a lot of people happy who are on a tight budget. I wonder what it would be like brushless haha 😋
If you don't mind trying it, put in a Tamiya speed tuned 380 motor & see if the stock electrics handles it, bit more rpm then 27t 540 motors does so should give this a decent speed boost.
Will see if I can get hold of one thanks for the idea 👍
Love the vid and the tash mate I really like the look of all the maverick range. As I said before mate I would really like to see what you can do with maybe faster brushed motor before you go brushless it's not all about the speed run
Might look at the tamiya 380 sport tuned what you think?
@@beyondRC yeah I think that's a good idea I think with too much speed it's going to want to topple at every turn
Good videos as always. It's a nice little truck keep up the good work buddy
Thanks for the review picked up 3 for the family as a beginner rc hobbiest hopefully they will work out well.
No problem 👍 you cant go wrong for the money they are great fun!
Love the body shell, some of these little 1:16/18 have some great ones.
They really do have to agree 😁😎👍
that thing is pretty cool seemed fast enough that car park looks abandoned!
Awesome vid! Great little 1/18 scale buggy. Smaller than the 144001, so it'll struggle to compare. Fun still!
A lot of fun! 😏😎
Looks like a shrunken Outlaw! Great looking little thing, and id be interested to see how it handles more power, given the tyres are quite narrow!
Happy Movember to you :)
Can't wait to get it going quicker 😏
Nice moustache dude!
Kudos from Le Mans, France.
Thank you! HA HA 👍😎👨
Liking the mustache mate, also take a look at the Maverick Quantum Flux 1/10 brushless MT or XT Truggy. Great value truck for £159 & 45mph out the box on 3s.
Haha got to do your bit for charity 👨. Will check those out may have to treat myself to a flux 😏!
@@beyondRC I found on my Flux that i changed out the shock fluid to thinner fluid. The stock fluid was so thick almost verging on a gel, this made the the wheels bounce on landing & extremely slow on shock rebound making the shocks feel wooden. I changed to 65wt fluid first & suspension was much better, i then changed to 80wt fluid & suspension was very much improved over the stock fluid.
@gillian9178 will keep this in mind should i get one then. Have put it on my wishlist as i have lots of videos to do in the next few weeks including the 2 HBX vehicles which i have been sent plus the 124019 is also on its way. Wont forget about the Flux 👍
Hi there I was wondering weather u can run a lipo? there are mixed opinions on weather the esc can take it
great video mate 👍 that honestly looks awesome
Cheers mate! Great little buggy to be fair to it. Would have liked a bit more Time off road with it but nevermind. Also ground clearance is poop being so small so was more at home on the on road 😁👍
@@beyondRC possible speed run build 😏😏
Now that's an idea 😜
@@beyondRC 50mph 😏
Are there any places we can go to get parts. Is there anything from bangood that we can order that will replace the shocks or battery pacs or anything??
Does it share the same parts as the Himoto 1:18 Barren?
Hi mate, great review. Will this buggy fit a larger battery ok if I change the connectors to full size tamiya connector? Just wondering if it will fit physically size wise...........
U biggest battery u can fit is the stock one
Definitely needs about 7mph more speed to make it entertaining! Looks good though!! Love the budget RC’s.
Have to agree! Was fun but with a little more speed would have been a little more enjoyable 😎
Ikr
Hi liked the video cheers. You mentioned the battery several times but didnt say the run time? I'm thinking of getting one for my son👍
Apologies. Not a huge amount if runtime to be fair I think I managed about 10mins so maybe grab an extra battery 👍
Woww...super fast ... spettacolare... ciao dall'Italia
😎👍😁
What is BEST traxxas la tetton ou maverick
Hi Ricky, that a good looking little truck, reminds me of the ftx outlaw a bit, definitely a nice little gift that 👍
Hi Marc, love the shell and yeah I agree it does! Certainly is. 👍😎
Great car for 2 days, but then we snapped a rear out drive. Replaced with the upgraded gold aluminum ones only to have the front out drive snap 2 days later. Now that the out drives are upgraded we keep destroying the differential gears. The car simply has too much power for the cheap gears its made
of.
🔥💥
Hey dude! It's me wild deer! Awesome footage! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks glad you like! 👍😎
Waiting for the Rampage 2020 video on the updated truck. Hurry and you can be the first to have a video on it!!
Will be along very soon! I didn't have the original do you know what has been changed compared to the original?
@@beyondRC no idea. I also didn’t have it. I can tell you the tires for sure, and now it’s called “Race Truck” instead of Rampage. I watched a lot of videos on the original and it seemed really good. Lots of popular channels swore by it being the best value for money. I buy amazon RCs a lot just to upgrade them to brushless and see what I can create with them. A lot of them don’t weigh much at all so they become very durable. My fav to upgrade so far has been the DeeRC 9310. Couldn’t break it if I tried. And was quick after the upgrade
@Wann Sklobi i had no idea it was that new i have just checked and its not available anywhere yet! Must get that video out! 👍😱
@@beyondRC lol yes that is why I mentioned it! That video would be a popular one if you are the only one to have it on their channel. I know I’ll be tuning in for sure!!
Hope it has better build quality than the larger quantum
its a great little buggy. Definitely for beginners just keep this in mind :)
Oooh a new video
That was extremely quick 🤣
That is a feisty little thing
It is but honest answer is you can definitely get more for the money with some alternatives but nevertheless still a decent budget model 👍😁
@@beyondRC I was literally on and it popped up still got a few minutes left
@BigBeard RC 😂
get a losi ,the cons ouut weigh pros by far save your money
Early lol
😁👍
