Happy Painting!! - Jak na to + styl
A coworkers mother painted rocks and coworker "discreetly" put them on our desks at work. She placed the best rock on my desk that has a flower with the word " WELCOME " on it. I flipped the rock over and it had a bible verse. It touched my heart completely, I really enjoy having this rock on my desk as a paper weight! Looking for an idea for my son to give his 2nd grade teacher as school is ending
I love that!! Do you have a specific message in mine? We have quite a few lettering tutorials on the page. Or are you looking for message ideas?
Anything with a Bible verse given to me goes here 🚮
This is a GREAT place for folks to start their Rock Painting journey! Cute tee shirt! ❤️

Awesome! Thank you! Welcome to the craft!
Thank you for sharing! I love these ideas & tips, I am now motivated to paint SO many rocks! :)
i never knew this was a thing until I found a rock in my area that was beautiful and said "you matter" on it, it really spoke to me and put such a huge smile on my face. I wanna give that smile to someone, so I found your tutorial and I'm gonna start! Thanks so much
Wonderful!! Happy Painting!
I'd check out other channels.
They show more rocks than face
I just saw a post on someone picking up a painted rock and thought what a way to enjoy painting and making someone’s day. I must have been living under a rock because I did not know how people leave them around as gifts to others they do not know. Thank you for a starting place.
Now that you know you will see them all over!
@@RockPainting101 The only time I did something similar was at the school I taught at. Teachers always need a bit of motivation. We were given a rock that had the base color painted on it and a name. We wrote a motivating saying or Picture on it. We snuck it to the teacher. We also dropped them little gifts as the year went on like a Secret pal.
Great idea to hide them randomly I do the same thing with my junk journals hope that I can bring a bit of joy to whoever finds it
That is awesome!! I’m sure those bring lots of joy!
Thank you! Got my paint, and got my rocks. Now I am ready to paint rocks. 👍
Have fun!

Wonderful! Happy Painting!
I'm a nanny for a 2 year old and her 7 years old half brother when he visits for the summer. I've wanted to paint rocks with them all summer, finally did it now that the older kids are back in school. 2 days ago, we collected our rocks on a walk. Afterwards, I had the kids scrub them, and line them up like little soldiers to dry. Today is painting day! I'm more excited than they are only because I know what we're doing, they've forgotten. lol
Have SO MUCH FUN
How did they turn out? Did the kiddos have fun?
Good video. Painted my mom some rocks today. I live in San Diego and we have AMAZING rocks for the taking at the beaches. I'm sending my mom some painted rocks to Virginia!
So awesome! I bet she loved them ❤️❤️
Wow! Your rocks look so awesome - super creative ideas! 😍 We painted some for the first time some weeks ago and hid them in Germany in the Harz. We also filmed a video about it, because we would love to inspire others with it, like you do. Painting the rocks makes so much fun, also hiding and finding some. 🎉
It is such a fun hobby! We love hiding them around. I even have a tree out front of my home I put them in during the warmer months.
Great video..! Perfect for the brand-new beginner (like me). Thanks.!

Greetings, I just found your CZcams. I subscribed and liked. Thank you for your CZcamss. Peace to you always.
Welcome!!
This was GREAT FRIEND!!!!!!

After we put the base paint on, can we use sharpies to write on them if we seal them ?
Sharpies have a tendency to bleed when you seal them. If that is all you have just make sure you do a VERY light first coat of spray sealer. Just a mist. Maybe even twice. Then follow up with a thicker coat. If you plant to paint a lot of rocks you can invest in some paint pens (even just black for writing) Let me know if you want any recommendations :)
I love paunt pens. I have acrylic
Thank You Sweetheart ❤️
❤❤🎉🎉
Today I bought a rock painting kit and then found your site. I'm so happy to be starting a new craft that will be fun and easy. Thanks for the tips on how to get started. Please don't laugh but my area doesn't have any rocks to be found, so I was wondering how I can get rocks to paint. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated 👍😊🤗💖
Wonderful! welcome to the hobby! There are a few options to get stones. Landscape supply shops will sometimes let you buy a bucket full. Home Depot/Lowes sometimes have bags (make sure there is no wax on them). Hobby Lobby has some in their "mosaic" department. They are nice flat slices. Then you can always order online. Amazon has quite a few options amzn.to/2ZKiOYj or this Etsy shop has some really nice ones too - tidd.ly/3AfE7Tg
Can you use masonary outdoor paint as base coat
Sure! Just make sure you let it dry completely before working on it :)
Omg I soooooo WANT YOUR SHIRT!!!!!!!!
Isn’t it great?!?! We sell them in our Etsy shop 😊
🤩
Hi love your feed, when sealing do I have to seal underneath the rock too?
Thank you!! Yes you want to seal all sides of the rock. This prevents moisture from creeping up under your paint.
Hello I won a ultimate Rock painting kit so come on here & found u so thanks for sharing just subscribed to your channel
Welcome!!
@@RockPainting101 Watching U again I'm ready to paint my rocks hope they turn out good
Does all artwork on rocks need to be baked before sealing? Thank you for this video!
I don't bake any of mine.
You can also buy the rocks at a Home Depot. I now know this because my fil just brought a bag home as a suprise for mil.
Yes! Just watch out for the ones with the waxy coating. Those are no good. Happy Painting!!
@@RockPainting101 Thanks for the tip! We plan on washing them pretty good to start but we'll make sure to keep an eye out.
I found the rocks to be so bumpy I couldn't even draw a straight line. I have no idea how people make such integrate designs. Taping it off didn't work nor did painting a base coat make a difference. How do you prep so that I can do a good drawing on them?
If you're dealing with really bumpy rocks then you will want to go with pour painting or something more abstract. Some people will use a putty to fill the stones, but you could just try to find better rocks to start with! River rocks from landscaping companies are very affordable and there are options online for ordering too.
Really useful video, just had a first go at creating a rock painting. I used acrylics but found they dried really quickly. Any ways to stop this happening?
You can base coat your rock first then the rock won't soak in the paint as fast.
@@RockPainting101 What should we use for the base coat? I was planning on using acrylics as well, but I've never painted rocks before.
Thanks for the video! I am going to purchase rocks from my local landscaping store. Which type of large rocks do you recommend? Thank you.
Start in the river rock area... they usually are pretty smooth. They should have them in a few different sizes and by different colors.
I use the markers for more control
Yes they really help!!
Help! I can't find the links you mentioned and I would like to know what kind of spray sealer I need, as well as what type of paint pen you would recommend for writing on them
I like an extra fine tip paint pen for writing I have Posca and Artistro brand and am happy with both. I have used quite a few different sprays over the years. Mainly just search for one that is non-yellowing AND weather resistant. Then pick the finish you want (matte or glossy) Krylon makes a few Rustoleum does too :) You can see rocks finished with them here - rockpainting101.com/best-sealer-painted-rocks/
@@RockPainting101 Thank you!!!! I had NO idea this was such a big thing! I had heard of it and honestly kinda shrugged it off like ok yea let's paint rocks and chased parked cars ( not proud but keeping it honest) Now I've been asked by a fellow caregiver to make them for the garden she does with the lady we care for. I'm the "crafty" one 🤣, plus I killed all the flowers I tried to start. So I have gladly accepted this assignment and just by chance as I was collecting and washing rocks yesterday 💡 maybe I should just make sure I'm on the right path......your video saved my me the grief of my paint washing off and overlooking the idea of paint pens THANK YOU
Can you tell me where you got, or how you made, that white square?
I get them from Etsy. I have links in this post - rockpainting101.com/rocks-for-crafts/
I do the rock for gameroxs 😂😂
Do you use a stencil/template on your rocks? I'm not a great artist, can't even draw a straight line! Please advise..
It depends on what you are trying to draw. I have use carbon paper before for lettering. Most of my designs I break down step by step so even if you don't have a lot of experience you can recreate the design :)
Have the rocks to be smooth? Or it's ok anyway?
Not all my rocks are smooth. It really depends on the design/style and how much details you are adding.
@@RockPainting101 thank you
What if I use outdoor paint? Will I need a sealer?
I would check your label. Make sure it is weather resistant and UV resistant so it doesn’t fade.
@@RockPainting101 well, I have the paint and a sealer. Thanks for the advice!
I have had no success in painting rocks so they look good. The pock marks blur everything. Is here a base coat that will take the tiny dips out and make it smooth for painting?
I know there are those that use wood putty to fill in bumps on their rocks and then sand them down. I just opt for getting smoother rocks myself :) River rocks are usually a good option from local landscaping supply shops.
Any Suggestions, I would live to make a Memorial Rock and leave at grave site. Using a Photograph. Something like decoupage a photo to a rock and sealing it so that it can sit at the grave site?
If it is going to be exposed to elements protecting it will be the hardest part. Maybe Resin to seal? As far as adding a photo to get a really good bond you will want a nice large flat tone. Santorini can be found pretty large.
My mom suggested to use transparent nail polish to keep the painting permanent
Im not sure if that would be UV protectant, however if you were going to keep them indoors I’m sure this would work well. Might get a little expensive.
Can i buff my rocks after painted?
It could rub off the paint. Maybe once it is sealed you can. Why would you want to buff it? To get a shine? If that is the case you can get a gloss clear coat to add on top to achieve that look :)
Thanks for the info! I have a question: in another video somwhere it quickly shows someone using a paint pen on a stone and the paint is flowing into ''ink blots'' , almost like alcohol is added to make it flow? I have paint pens that I colour rocks with but miy paint doesn't flow like what I saw in that video. Can you give any infor on this? Thx!
I'm wondering if someone can answer my question?
You have to make sure you are using water-based paint pens. It is water being added to the paint. Here's the video if you want to watch :) czcams.com/video/7GdyphLfs58/video.html
@@RockPainting101 Thank you! This helped a lot.
Can you tell me what the difference is between resin and acrylic sealant?
Resin is thicker and you have to mix it before you use it. We have more information about it in this post. rockpainting101.com/resin-painted-rocks/ There are lot of spray on and even brush on sealers you can use as well.
I also use posca
They are fantastic paint pens!!
what city do you hide yours in I just discovered one is sac
I don't disclose my location :) But it isn't Sacramento! Which one did you find?
My paint starts to bubble when there outside, what varnish would be best to use x
Make sure you seal the whole rock. Are you able to use a spray on where you live? Here is a post that talks about my favorite sealers... rockpainting101.com/best-sealer-painted-rocks/
What paint can I use to color big rocks outdoors?
You could use acrylics just make sure to seal it well. They do make outdoor paints as well. Might hold up better for long term exposure to the elements.
Can you please make a video ideas for panting rocks?
