    A coworkers mother painted rocks and coworker "discreetly" put them on our desks at work. She placed the best rock on my desk that has a flower with the word " WELCOME " on it. I flipped the rock over and it had a bible verse. It touched my heart completely, I really enjoy having this rock on my desk as a paper weight! Looking for an idea for my son to give his 2nd grade teacher as school is ending

    I just saw a post on someone picking up a painted rock and thought what a way to enjoy painting and making someone’s day. I must have been living under a rock because I did not know how people leave them around as gifts to others they do not know. Thank you for a starting place.

      @@RockPainting101 The only time I did something similar was at the school I taught at. Teachers always need a bit of motivation. We were given a rock that had the base color painted on it and a name. We wrote a motivating saying or Picture on it. We snuck it to the teacher. We also dropped them little gifts as the year went on like a Secret pal.

    I'm a nanny for a 2 year old and her 7 years old half brother when he visits for the summer. I've wanted to paint rocks with them all summer, finally did it now that the older kids are back in school. 2 days ago, we collected our rocks on a walk. Afterwards, I had the kids scrub them, and line them up like little soldiers to dry. Today is painting day! I'm more excited than they are only because I know what we're doing, they've forgotten. lol

    After we put the base paint on, can we use sharpies to write on them if we seal them ?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Před 3 lety +3

      Sharpies have a tendency to bleed when you seal them. If that is all you have just make sure you do a VERY light first coat of spray sealer. Just a mist. Maybe even twice. Then follow up with a thicker coat. If you plant to paint a lot of rocks you can invest in some paint pens (even just black for writing) Let me know if you want any recommendations :)

      Wonderful! welcome to the hobby! There are a few options to get stones. Landscape supply shops will sometimes let you buy a bucket full. Home Depot/Lowes sometimes have bags (make sure there is no wax on them). Hobby Lobby has some in their "mosaic" department. They are nice flat slices. Then you can always order online. If you're dealing with really bumpy rocks then you will want to go with pour painting or something more abstract. River rocks from landscaping companies are very affordable and there are options online for ordering too.

Mainly just search for one that is non-yellowing AND weather resistant. It depends on what you are trying to draw. I have use carbon paper before for lettering. Most of my designs I break down step by step so even if you don't have a lot of experience you can recreate the design :)

    Have the rocks to be smooth? Or it's ok anyway?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Před 3 lety +1

      Not all my rocks are smooth. It really depends on the design/style and how much details you are adding.

    What if I use outdoor paint? Will I need a sealer?

      I would check your label. Make sure it is weather resistant and UV resistant so it doesn’t fade.

    I have had no success in painting rocks so they look good. The pock marks blur everything. Is here a base coat that will take the tiny dips out and make it smooth for painting?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Před 2 lety +1

      I know there are those that use wood putty to fill in bumps on their rocks and then sand them down. I just opt for getting smoother rocks myself :) River rocks are usually a good option from local landscaping supply shops.

    Any Suggestions, I would live to make a Memorial Rock and leave at grave site. Using a Photograph. Something like decoupage a photo to a rock and sealing it so that it can sit at the grave site?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Před rokem

      If it is going to be exposed to elements protecting it will be the hardest part. Maybe Resin to seal? As far as adding a photo to get a really good bond you will want a nice large flat tone. Santorini can be found pretty large.

    My mom suggested to use transparent nail polish to keep the painting permanent

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Před 3 lety

      Im not sure if that would be UV protectant, however if you were going to keep them indoors I’m sure this would work well. Might get a little expensive.

    Can i buff my rocks after painted?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Před 3 lety +1

      It could rub off the paint. Maybe once it is sealed you can. Why would you want to buff it? To get a shine? If that is the case you can get a gloss clear coat to add on top to achieve that look :)

    Thanks for the info! I have a question: in another video somwhere it quickly shows someone using a paint pen on a stone and the paint is flowing into ''ink blots'' , almost like alcohol is added to make it flow? I have paint pens that I colour rocks with but miy paint doesn't flow like what I saw in that video. Can you give any infor on this? Thx!

      You have to make sure you are using water-based paint pens. It is water being added to the paint. Here's the video if you want to watch :) czcams.com/video/7GdyphLfs58/video.html

      @RockPainting101  Před 2 lety

      Resin is thicker and you have to mix it before you use it. We have more information about it in this post. rockpainting101.com/resin-painted-rocks/ There are lot of spray on and even brush on sealers you can use as well.
