    My mother was always telling my sisters and I to not drink diet soda when we were young. She said, " It will come out one day that it causes weight gain." The studies now are pointing to it. It's a mystery to us how she knew.

    I just found you on youtube and I am obsessed in a good way of course. You are so informational and motivational. I need you in my life. I lost 75 pounds 7 years ago and gained every pound back within 3 years. I have been beating myself up since then which is making it hard for me to restart. Listening to you has helped me to stay on my water and create a healthy grocery list. Next is to get up and move. So this is my start and I will keep listening to stay motivated.

    I am so glad you talked about intuitive eating! I can’t do that because I am always hungry. My meds make me hungry. I rarely get full. I know when I am full when I feel sick. Portion control is the only way I can do it. Even then it is hard. I have food intolerances so I have a bad relationship with food. Thank you for addressing this!

  • @Turtletoots3
    @Turtletoots3 Před 2 lety +1

    The point about intuitive eating was spot on. The people I see who've had success with intuitive eating have usually grown up with reasonable habits (reasonably active, reasonably balanced nutrition, not using food as an emotional crutch) and are reconnecting with that normal eating after recovering from the consequences of crash dieting. These people also don't seem to be suffering from endocrine disorders, autoimmune conditions and are not taking medications that affect appetite. If IE works for them, that's great, but as someone who grew up with a really bad relationship with food and has hashimoto's, it took quite a while for me to get over the delusion that I could become an intuitive eater.

    It's funny you say that about weight loss being a lifestyle change and not just a quick fix. I've gone up and down like a yo-yo ever since I was 12 years old, especially with eating emotionally at times. I finally learned this year that the work doesn't end when you lose the weight, or you get the body you want, or the blood sugar levels get to the numbers that you need them to be at ... no that's actually when the hard work begins. Truth is when you're losing the weight it's easy to say "oh well, I didn't get to my goal weight... I'll try again next time"and just go back to eating like you were eating. However, when you lose 60... 70... 80... or more pounds you get it in your head you don't want to go back up to that number in the scales so yes it is hard work to keep the weight down but it's worth it too.

    In one of my health groups people say they have to cut carbs because "carbs caused fatty liver" or "no sugar" and they go on and on about stevia or fake sugars. If you mention you eat pasta (and never say white pasta or you get "stoned) they freak out. One woman demanded to know how I claimed I lost weight while eating "carby" cereal like Cream of Wheat. You just need portion control and hopefully you burn it off with exercise. The "I hate carbs" group really gets my goat because they fail to understand they didn't get fat overnight and "carbs" are necessary.

    I read a book "why french women don't get fat" and it talked about the 3 bite rule, that after 3 bites, you become numb to the taste and enjoyment and your blood sugar spikes. So then what I started doing to taper off of sugar is cutting desserts in half or sharing at a restaurant. I will share a donut with my husband. If I have had alot of carbs one day I will eat 1/4 of a donut and take tiny bites and now I am at the point with sensitivity that a small sweet finish to a meal is more than enough. Anything to get the delight without a nap.

    I have started eating junk type foods only on special occasions like family birthdays and Christmas, so a cheat day about once every 2nd month or so and it seems to be working well for me. I can be strict with myself if I know a "naughty" day is coming. And then after 2 months of eating super healthy I find I can't really stomach or enjoy as much junk food in a day as I used to be able to vacuum up so it ends up being pretty tame anyway. I know though, that if I let that cheat day bleed into a couple of days longer I run the risk of returning to my old ways, like a sugar and fat addict. The makers of those foods actually do testing for the ideal fat and sugar to add to make it hard for people to stop eating their product.

    I’m on a calorie deficit and my budget is ~1800 calories. I try to eat whole, nutritious foods that keep me full like oats, quinoa, fruits, and vegetables. But some days I have trouble reaching my budget. Some days I can’t even get over 1,300 calories and it’s not intentional, I’m just not hungry. I eat three meals a day and listen to my body when it says I am full. Do you have any advice on how I can fix this, or if it’s even a problem at all?

    I’ve had a diet sodas on an occasional basis and I’m considered a type 2 diabetic, I personally think it’s better than drinking a regular coke or regular energy drink and I’ve lost over 80lbs since 2/2020 and I’ve kept it off and also continue to lose weight. I say in moderation it’s fine, but I’ll never drink a Big Red soda or regular sugary drinks..,

    I just used a calculator and got my bmr and tdee. My tdee is 3000. To lose 1 pounds a wk would my daily calories be 2500? That just seems so high. In your opinion, what is the best macro % for weight loss? Carb 45, protein 30 and fat 25? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

    • @borov788
      @borov788 Před 3 lety

      You may have overestimated how much calories do you burn, but if your tdee is actually 3k, eating 2.5k you'll lose a pound a week.
      As for macros - % does matter, eat however you like, so that you can stick to your diet and to simplify things by quite a bit. Only macro I myself is concerned about is protein - 1 gram per pound of bodyweight is optimal for muscle growth. Also i like to keep fats pretty low, as it is very easy to overeat them.
      It would be easier to ansver your question if you say what's your weight/height and what are the activities you do.

  • @alwayscuriousalwayslearnin

    yess I am a fan of those donuts burgers Pizza and a few more hotdogs pies cakes cookies and kitKat cndy bars some Potatoe chips, my post as security I patrol once or twice an hour the rest is sitting in my car ( if the weather is bad) and the huge thing for me is the Damm vending machine inside that I walk past every patrol. I stopped eating junk food back in the 1970s early 80-s ago than in 2017 I started my post here and one night I forgot my lunch so I used the vending machine now its a total habit, I buy a Kitkat bar or tiny bag of baked potato chips and I have been doing this for the past 4 years at least once a shift evil machine that calls my name saying Just look inside and see what's here :)
    Carbs are basically fuel.
    cutting too many calories will set your mind to saying" Starving "so the body will produce more fat and possibly burn muscle and also your organs could be damaged as well if this is done to much.
    I think also when people lose weight at first its water weight
