One month ago my blood results showed an AIC of 9.1, blood sugar of 279, and triglycerides of 1023. Three weeks of intermittent fasting, low sugar, and low carbs and the numbers were lowered to blood sugar of 129, and triglycerides of 453 - A1C is still 9.1, but I am confident that will be in the normal range in three months. It is true - You are what you eat - and when you eat!

I have prediabetes (Type 2), I only weigh 150lbs and am 6 feet tall, so not obese at all. no one in my family has or has ever had it so I'm baffled. I've eaten very healthy since I began working out in 2012 :(

Reversed my Type 2 within 8 months of diagnosis. I followed a strict Pioppi (Mediterranean style) diet with meds -I stopped the meds after 6 months of testing 5 to 6 constantly on the blood glucose meter- and got my HBA1C down to 30.
I received my invite to the online Changing Health programme 10 months later...
At no point was I advised to change my diet.
I lost 15kg weight wise. And while I did exercise very early on. I found this triggered Hypos so stuck to the diet.
Sugar cravings were / are controlled with chewing gum, blueberry and greek yogurt breakfasts. Apples and cherries (though I have to be careful as i now love them)
Still off the pasta and rice. And if I'm having them, only eat 3 new potatoes. Luckily I recently discovered that barley fulfills my carb needs texture/bulking wise so my Caribbean/Chinese dishes have never tasted better.
Good luck on your journeys. It's initially a slog but it does become a habit.

It's not about calories. It's about carbs. What you're doing is cutting out the sugars that create stored fat. And consuming easily burnt fats.
Potatoes, rice, pasta out. Anything highly processed, like vegetable oils. Out. No sugar.
      Then low glycemic index foods.
I didn't do any fasting (I get it but leans into food fad behaviour)

You do not need a low carb diet that is nonsense. Bariatric surgery puts diabetes in remission. What you‘ll need is significant weight loss so a low calorie diet like
1200kcal/day. And a low carb or keto diet is no better in terms of weight loss then any other, as proven in different studies.
A study showed diabetes reversal done with a 1200 kcal liquid diet - and a liquid diet is far from healthy or low in carbs.
There have been studies showing remissions of type 2 diabetes on the Mediterranean diet which is not a low carb diet but emphasizes in carb and fat quality.
This video is not representing science nor does it address the real cause of diabetes: saturated fat.
One of the mechanisms of insulin resistance is that saturated fat from the blood is blocking insulin receptors. Not carbs! Fat!. Why? Because dear diabetics you have eaten so much that your fat cells are full and refusing to let more in and sugar also gets only in slowly, since even more oxidative stress from burning sugar - since the fats cause enough - will damage the cells significantly. The body finds a solution by depositing fat where it does not belong, between the organs and inside the organs. And that causes chronic inflammation in those tissues. In the liver this can go as far as liver scarring or liver liver chirrosis in special terms, which is irreversible liver damage.
You see how little glucose metabolism and insulin has to do with the emergence of diabetes? Very little. The disrupted glucose metabolism is the result of a disturbed fatty acid metabolism in the first place. And the disturbance in the glucose metabolism shows in that way that more and more insulin is needed to let glucose enter the cell. You‘ll become diabetic if the pancreas can‘t keep up with insulin production because the overworking caused irreparable damage.
If you eat a low carb diet and consume the same calories as before, you are managing, not reversing the disease.
You may keep your glucose stable and do not worsen fasting glucose and the damage to the pancreas, but that’s achievable with meds too. You are mainly managing it.
What dear diabetics does get deep tho the cause of the problem, the full fat cells?
Emptying them of course by reversing what you have done in the first place to overfill them. Stop overeating and mostly start underrating to get rid of the fat. It does not matter how. Can be a high carb diet as well if you only eat carbs with high fiber content. There are case series of patients eating whole food plant based with 75% carbs showing successful diabetes type 2 remission. Not only that, I do not recommend it, my grandfather reduced his HbA1c and his meds on a diet including soda and sweets, just by loosing a big amount of weight. He is on his best way towards remission, maybe in half a year or a year depending on how fast he drops the kilos.
So drastically reduce your calories and get moving
In addition high protein can increase insulin secretion so it can help a lot with achieving remission.
