      Yes. It happened in early August. It was a Sunday around noon when I saw a massive influx of subscribers. I even thought to myself that I was being pranked. Had no idea of what was happening until one of my subscribers told me about it. Then Russ contacted me himself. Really nice guy and really nice of him to do this. Welcome to Batocera Nation!

      It's because of this channel I moved to Batocera. I was running Linux Mint with ES until I came across Batocera and never looked back and still learning.
      For some reason Naomi & Daphne have both stopped working? When I first installed Batocera V32 they worked first time, but since any other clean installs they've stopped working, even in V33.
      I'm not complaining because even though my system is older, I've had a speed increase and able to run systems i couldn't before.

    Thanks for the great tutorial. One trap for young players.... Be careful if you need to turn protected boot off to boot from a USB / ext drive AND you have a bitlocker encrypted main drive. I didn't realise I had bitlocker encryption turned on, (it came pre-installed and enabled), until I tried to boot to Windows without the Batocera USB inserted. I was presented with a very unfriendly screen requiring me to enter a decryption key. It didn't like my keyboard either, (the one built into the laptop!) I wasn't game to mess with it. Without the USB inserted, I was unable to boot to BIOS to turn protected boot back on. I needed to insert the USB, restart, and was able to boot to BIOS. Had me worried there for a bit!

    The only part I’m confused about is that it seems like you only need one external hard drive/flash drive for batocera and your games but when I look it up everyone else says to use a small flash drive for the batocera files and then place your roms on a separate hard drive.

    • @nerdloftgaming
      @nerdloftgaming Před rokem +2

      You have different ways of doing this. Personally, through experience on RetroPie and RGB-Pi O/S, I would definitely recommend one storage device (ie sd card) solely for the Batocera image, and an external drive for your games, media, save files, etc. This way when it comes to updating your build, you only have to flash the new build of Batocera to your “boot” storage. This also saves you from having these massive backup images… imagine your build getting corrupted, well there’s goes everything: your games, media, and saves. Had you just separated the OS from the games, you’ll save yourself the headache.

      Definitely get anything that you would be "concerned" about off your hard drive, I'm thinking one USB to load Batoceta and possibly throw BIOS files or maybe emulators you want to focus on. And another USB drive specific for ROMs. Especially for a low end computer, and I also feel that adding a USB drive to increase ROM storage would help the situation..

    Hello there. I added a 1TB hard drive to my Windows 10 computer (desktop PC). I divided the disk into 2 partitions. And thanks to the Grub2Win program, I was able to install Batocera on the 10 GB partition of this disk. Batocera works flawlessly. It prompts me at system startup: Windows 10 or Batocera. Exactly like I want. No problem here. However, I can't see the second partition of my disk in System Settings > Storage Device. That's why I can't choose this 921 GB space that I have allocated as the Data partition. Another problem is that I cannot copy the bios files to the Share > Bios folder, just like you did. It gives a "storage full" warning. And the total space seems to be 250 MB. I'm about to go crazy! 😫 No matter what I did, I couldn't fix it. Please help me. I want to solve this. My job is half done.

    • @BatoceraNation
      @BatoceraNation  Před 2 lety +2

      Batocera automatically creates 2 partitions. One for the boot Batocera and the second one for the data files to put your games. The Windows partition should make it 3. I believe that Windows partition is throwing things off.

    Hello there! 👋
    I am brand new to Batocera and I need a bit of information / help. In your video, it states that I will need a thumb drive, external USB drive, or external SSD drive to install Batocera. Could I follow basically the same instructions if I wanted to install Batocera to an internal hard drive or internal solid state drive? 🤔
    Long story short, I bought a Super Console X PC Supreme. It has a 2TB internal hard drive loaded with Batocera and 63000+ games as well as a 128GB SSD with Windows 10. However! The Batocera hard drive was apparently defective. And I don't mean defective like "I messed it up because I'm an idiot 🤦‍♂️" defective. I mean after 4 or 5 hours of using Batocera, the hard drive started repeatedly making "click of death" noises then stopped functioning completely. Now I can only boot into Windows. When I go into the BIOS, that drive shows as 0.0GB, Not Supported.
    Anyways, I'm CERTAIN the hard drive is broken as opposed to having corrupted data (I've lost a few hard drives over the years. I recognize that horrible, telltale sound 😟) So I'd like to replace the broken hard drive with a new one and restore it back to how it used to be (or at least as close as I can get it 🤷‍♂️)
    And on the subject of hard drives, would I be better off getting a regular hard drive or a solid state hard drive for Batocera? I know solid state is way faster, but how do they hold up for longevity?
    Anybody's help would be HIGHLY appreciated 🙏

    • @BatoceraNation
      @BatoceraNation  Před 2 lety +1

      If you take out the internal hard drive, put it in portable container or reader, you could install Batocera on it, then when it's done, you could take it out, and place it back into your computer system. As for your other question, I have been using SSD drives for a number of years now and I've only had 1 fail me (bought a cheap generic one and that was my mistake). All the other ones are still running well. SSDs are much faster but more expensive. If you can afford it, I say go for it. They should have at least 5 years of usage.

      A hard drive enclosure worked like a charm 😍 In fact, it works so good that I might just leave it in the enclosure for good!
      I decided to go with an ORICO 2.5" Type C 10Gb / s External Hard Drive Enclosure (USB 3.1 Gen 2 to SATA III) With a 2TB Western Digital Blue 3D Nand Solid State Drive.
      I've never worked with a SSD before, so I was quite surprised at how light the package was 😮 I'm also quite surprised at just how fast this drive is! Flashing Batocera to this drive was crazy fast in comparison to previous drives I've flashed 🤯 Copying the Mame Roms from an internal SSD to my new Batocera drive was fast as lightning! This is going to be a treat when it comes to transfering larger Rom collections such as PlayStation 2.
      Thanks again for your help! 😍

    Thanks for such a wonderful video. I found the explanations easy to understand, unfortunately putting them to action was another thing. I downloaded the Batecera image and used the balena program to put it in my 500gig external SSD. Everything went smoothly up to that point. I even entered my PCs Bios and set it to boot from the external drive where Baticera is. After this nothing happened, I tried re downloading and using balena again with the same results. To make matters worse, my external drive does not show on my PC any longer, funny thing is balena still recognizes it. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

    • @TheRedMalice
      @TheRedMalice Před 2 lety +1

      Your hard drive is formatted with ext4 which Windows doesn't recognize, but Linux will. If you want to fix this you need to use a bootable Linux OS from a thumb drive and use gparted to reformat the hard drive.

    • @BatoceraNation
      @BatoceraNation  Před 2 lety +2

      Reformat the hard drive that has Batocera. Use the Partition tool in Widows or the Disk Management tool. Format it in NTFS. Then install Batocera again. While it is booting, you will need to be patient. It does take time. If your system has a Nvidia card then you will need to change the configuration file before you try to run Batocera for the first time. There is video that explains the process.

      That's a defect in your Bios from your PC manufacturer. Find out if you can upgrade your Bios to a newer version if there is one. For some reason your Bios is not recognizing Batocera as a real OS and just ignoring it upon booting. That's why you have to manually do it.

      If you dont plan on using any of the new systems v32 adds you dont need any new bios files/ pack.

      Its not like new bios files are being made for all these old systems.
