For those that can't connect (without plugging into the controller or TV) using another brand that is not sony, don't feel bad. I have a pair of Sony XBASS wireless headphones and the PS4 won't connect to them either. PS4 won't even take a sony product...what a joke.

Thanks! I'm a new ps4 user and I didn't know that connecting headphones is so easy. It's great that you can disconnect your standard headphones from the controller and sound will be automatically send to tv. This is what I really needed on my ps3...

This was a real help you have other youtubers in 15 plus minutes saying to I need to download a code from a website to a USB to my ps4, just for some USB headphones.
Bought the E7 headphones, great sound for the price, and they're quite comfortable too.
Unfortunately Sony™ and the greed for us to buy their brand headphones, doesn't allow for a direct bluetooth connection. No worries though, I used the second option, my Avantree Leaf USB bluetooth adapter isn't recognized by my PS4. No worries there, I can use that on my HP laptop.

For all the people trying to connect your Bluetooth headset to you PS4, it won't be supported and you will need to get a ps4 dongle to use your Bluetooth headset, they sell for like $15

If you gotta headset that is not Sony, all you have to do is go into setting-devices-audio then change the output to all audio, hope that helps :)

So basically if you don't have a wire connection or USB connection, then you can only connect Bluetooth controllers. You cannot connect anything else wirelessly.
