  • “What would destroy the Labour Party's fortunes? I don't know, something to do with Keir Starmer and a donkey.”
Polly Mackenzie, Daniel Finkelstein and Peter Mandelson ponder what it would take for Rishi Sunak to defy political gravity and deny Labour a majority at the general election.

The reason why Labour lost so disastrously in Scotland was that, during the independence referendum, Labour joined forces with the Tories in their No campaign rather than run their own. To many Labour voters, this was an absolute betrayal given people were still feeling the effects of Thatcherism on their communities, in particular her war on the miners. Labour have still to recover from this massive miscalculation on their part.

How amazing that Mandelson with impunity spouts his views on the defects of others, quite ingenuously and entertainingly, whilst having been twice sacked in his time for misdemeanours of his own making. Positioned in the forefront of the discussion, sometimes a little too gossipy for my liking, yet simultaneously remaining in the shadows is another accomplished art form, an inexplicable mystery (hence the moniker of Prince of Darkness), managing to trouser £10 million with no sign of the Greensill stigma which afflicted Lord Cameron.

Look at the title of this one, where there is an implication that the Tories could achieve a comeback. This would be on whose wishlist? Not that of some 3/4 of the British people. But it is in a lot of the British media such as Times Radio where you have a strong right-wing bias. Let's look at this objectively. Just for a moment, forget about any people involved and do your OWN research: Choose your own non-biased data source to look up and compare the list of the "Top 10 Most Liberal Countries to the list of "Top 10 Most Conservative Countries. See how each country is rated for each flourishing factor: The Happiest, the Safest, the most Personal Freedom of all countries in the world.
You will find that the Most Liberal Countries are also rated the Happiest, Safest, and with Most Personal Freedom - without exception. (Norway, Sweeden, New Zealand, Canada, etc.)
You will also find that the Most Conservative Countries are rated Dead Last - rated Least Happy, Least Safe, and have the Least Personal Freedom - without exception. (Yemen, Iran, Sudan, Pakistan, etc.)
USA is currently somewhere in the middle for flourishing factors and political ideology.
Based on your OWN research now you know what is working and what to expect if your vote moves our country more towards one extreme or the other (Without Exception, More Liberal = Happier, Safer, Freer versus More Conservative - Less Happy, Less Safe, Less Free).
The Only thing remaining is to decide if you prefer flourishing or not. Simple.
