Yes, definitely it does help, mostly now with COVID-19. It's very important machine. I have use this devise for about 15 year my original machine broke after about 10 years use, it is not fragile the mine lasted many years. Recently I brought a new one, same model. It is very durable if you use it with care. I put in the reservoir just water when I have a cold or the flu. But don't place your face too close to facemask. I swear by Vicks Steam Inhaler because it has helped me so much with my colds. Also used it recently when I had COVID-19 and this machine saved my life literally, no exaggeration. Because of this machine I did not have tobe hospitalized, did not develop pneumonia. The steam kills COVID-19. It was originally recommended by my doctor, it has helped me alot. Source about COVID-19: the University of Aberdeen in Scotland studied using seasalt and steam. They found out that seasalt or iodized salt help you with COVID-19 and steam kills it.
Yes you can use it without the pads and I truly apologize for my delayed response. I actually use it with tap water to keep the air moist in my bedroom. It aides in keeping my nasal passage from becoming so dry. I hope this info will help you and thank you for checking out our video

Sorry about result, I too suffer with sinus and I put water with iodized salt 1/4 of a teaspoon into the reservoir. My doctor recommended it to me, using the machine it help me alot.

Yes the steam is warm. It can be a bit much for beginner users so you can adjust the vent to your discretion
