    2018 Dodge Charger Daytona
    6-speaker Alpine "system"...
    • I replaced the two 3x5s in the front with Infinity Reference REF-3032CFX 2-way speakers.
    • I replaced the rear 6x9s with Infinity Reference 9633IX 3-way speakers.
    Here's the issue:
    • Mids and Highs *Chefs kiss
    • Bass - almost gone.
    I used Chrysler/Dodge specific harnesses, so the wiring was plug and play (positive and negative are different sizes to prevent misconnection).
    I've chalked it up to the new speakers being higher quality and needing a higher quality Amp to actually push them.
    • 1. Am I on the right path?
    • 2. I'm DIY, but know almost nothing about car audio - so I'd love the "idiots guide" to adding an Amp, and Sub (anything else needed?) to my vehicle to get this done.
    I found the following:
    • 1. A single 10"vSkar Audio SDR-10 Dual 2-ohm Subwoofer (600W RMS) in a xox made to tuck into the trunk of the charger (where beats sub used to fit on the older chargers equipped with it).
    • 2. Skar Audio RP-1200.1D Monoblock Class D MOSFET Amplifier with Remote Subwoofer Level Control. Peak Power at 1 Ohm: 1,600 Watts | RMS Power at 1 Ohm: 1,200 Watts.
    I would love an assist in understanding everything needed and how to wire properly (I'm visual)...allvhelp is greatly appreciate.
    Ultimately I just wanted a little turnup from what came factory in this vehicle.
    Thank you!

    Thanks for the vid info. Very helpful! However, was there a breakage on the side panel where it meets the A pillar? Was that caused by trying to remove the pillar cover before the dash side panel? Curious, There are a couple of important points you forgot to mention or didnt know. 1- Be very careful in loosening the A pillars because you dont want to damage or contact any important electrical connections in the Airbags that are placed there! Serious damage may result if not careful! 2- It has been noted on various Challenger forums that sometimes the factory has the polarity of the connections reversed on the plugs going to the speakers! Out of phase speakers will sound poor, and/or cause speaker failure eventually. 3- Take advice from whoever your sources are with a some caution, and do your own research to verify certain details. Otherwise, thanks for your video and explanations. ( local shops want to sell you as much as you are willing to buy: Amps, their line of speakers, upgrades, electronic processors and such. I too chose the reference for the dash, but the CS Kickers 6.5 for the rear deck. ( I found them to sound significantly better than the Infinity for the back, but sound is a very personal experience. )

    GREAT INFO, exactly what I was looking for. Couple questions.
    Were there any problems getting the long front dash cover back on? I saw the clips on the part of the cover that were facing you but did not see now the piece connected on the other side that is closer to the windshield.
    I am looking at a powered subwoofer that would contain its own amp. Will I need to purchase a line out converter in this type of install? I would assume no. I am guessing you have a line out converter because your sub is separate from your amp?
    When you connected the sub to your rear speakers, did you have to connect to both rear speakers? And how did you determine the polarity of the wires (which wire is positive and which wire is negative) on the stock rear speakers. If you don't mind, can you share what color wire is positive and what color is negative for each rear speaker so I can tap correctly on my install?
    Again, great video and information!!
    (I posted same questions in the Challenger Forum)

    That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen, putting a 6x9 woofer in a door, that car should have two 6x9's tri-axels in the rear deck, a 6.5 coax in the doors, and than the 3.5's in the dash. I had my 2017 Challenger less than a week and replaces the whole junk alpine system with infinity kappa in the doors, two Austin Prima in the rear deck, two 3.5 infinity reference in the dash, and an 8 inch sub in the trunk, with an aftermarket amp. All the factory speaker went in the trash where they belong. Dodge should be ashamed of themselves for putting such junk in these vehicles.

      The factory system is garbage.
      This is my exact setup and it sounds amazing. The 8 inch sub has a nice punch and blends perfectly with the rest of the speakers. It won't shake the ground but it will definitely rattle your car. Just be sure to dynamat the doors and rear deck. Also your going to have to add either foam striping along the back edge of the cover to help with vibrations. I'm thinking of dynamiting the under side. I did the foam and it helped with most of the rattle. Also depends on the music you listen to.

      The 6 speaker alpines are ok if you're not a audio guy, but if you like a little bass, it's not enough. And the alpines are not crisp/clear, they sound like when you have your equalizer setting to all mid range. I install the 6" infinity to the rear deck, it's much better now.

    • @viksvehicles
      @viksvehicles  Před 2 lety +1

      The stock head unit should already filter the sound signal going to the dash speakers so no bass is going through there. No need for additional bass blockers since it is already high-passed. The speaker itself should have a built in crossover/capacitor that blocks the bass going to the tweeter.

  • @skywrench
    @skywrench Před 3 lety +1

    So you only changed the dash speakers? I know there is an ohm difference. Stock is 2 ohm and most aftermarkets are 4 ohm. I talked to Crutchfield today and the guy said dont do it. That if I wanted to upgrade all the speakers I'd end up having to replace everything. He said because of that ohm difference that I'd have to turn the volume all the way up just to hear anything. I'm just curious how yours sounds and if you need to crank it up just to hear it. Thanks

    • @viksvehicles
      @viksvehicles  Před 3 lety +3

      I believe my Infinity dash speakers are 3 ohm. The volume is normal, the rear speakers will distort if I crank it while the dash speakers remain crystal clear. Even if the Infinity’s were 4 ohm I don’t think you would have an issue with having to crank the volume, just search for a speaker with a high sensitivity rating.
      I will probably eventually upgrade the rear speakers too since the fronts made such a difference, but I am very happy with the outcome for now.

    • @viksvehicles
      @viksvehicles  Před 2 lety

      Sound level sounded similar. The Infiniti’s have a good efficiency rating so they will play loud even there is a difference in ohms. Regardless of which brand you go with, the most important thing for me was to get some highs, as the stock speakers lacked tweeters and couldn’t hit the high notes very well.

    • @steelcowboy2751
      @steelcowboy2751 Před 2 lety +1

      @@viksvehicles so I added the JBL club 3 1/2 last weekend; they are a 3 ohm speaker; it made a tremendous difference having a tweeter. After doing the front, now it’s obvious how bad the single cone rear speakers sound; the sound stage is off with the front sounding great but the rear adding nothing so this weekend I’m adding the matching JBL clubs 6 1/2 to the rear. I fully expect the system to sound great. I’m leaving the 6/9 woofer in the door and I really don’t think adding a sub will be necessary; I don’t think it would improve the sound enough to justify the cost. (I added a $1000.00 focal sub and enclosure to my 2020 charger and while I could hear a small difference; it wasn’t worth the cost.
      Overall, I expect the system to sound great for the cost of $200.00. I’m an audiophile and have always had upgraded stereos in all my cars and have expensive B&O headphones and an expensive home theater; I really think the base Alpine system with only the modest cost addition is more than enough to make the Challenger more than adequate. The main difference is adding 4 tweeters to a system with none from the factory
