  • The iCloud beta allows iCloud+ subscribers to set up a custom email domain for iCloud Mail. In this walkthrough, I show you step-by-step how to add the necessary DNS records to your domain registrar to get iCloud email working with your very own custom domain. Please keep in mind that, at the moment, this is a beta feature. Your mileage may vary. Full tutorial: 9to5mac.com/2021/09/07/how-to...

    Thank you so much for this tutorial! First of all, it was easy to listen to you bc your voice has a nice calming quality. Secondly, you must know I'm a NOT an internet guru. In fact I'm an idiot!!! But 2 hours later, I have listened to your tutorial and figured it out (even with a different domain provider who did not use nor call MX the same thing that you did so I had to listen to other tutorials to understand that MX means Mail Settings! I've really been educated! Thank you again! Now I'm going to attempt to add a 2nd business email address. Haha! Let's see how much I truly comprehended!

    Here's a question:- custom domain works saperate from our main iCloud address. Or it just clone everything to our main icloud domain. Little bit of confusion. Cause m365 and workspace are saperate services from consumer version. And also wanted to know if personal icloud storage works on that or we have to purchase iCloud storage saperate for our custom domain.

    Does anyone know if doing this to a current iCloud email address (one I've been using since 2014) affects things? As in, if I were to change it to have my custom domain at the end, would all my emails from 2014 to present still exist and would I still be able to send/receive from the same place? Also, I created my custom domain with Wix, so is the process any different to using Hover?

    @ThomasExtraordinaire Před 2 lety +1

    My main issue with this is they they don't have a catch-all option yet and no DMARC which to me is hugely important. It would be nice if they allowed more than 3 addresses per domain per person. However, I would be willing to downsize providing they did have a catch-all and DMARC. I use a pretty expensive service right now that I really enjoy but having everything all within the ecosystem I currently use would save some money for sure.

  • @joannachulek
    @joannachulek Před rokem

    Just to be clear. I already pay for a domain and hosting services. Does it mean that I can give up the expensive hosting services and use this instead? iCloud seems significantly cheaper. Will it work as long as I continue paying for my domain? And if so, will I have to update all the information in my email app (BlueMail)? I worry that I will do something wrong and end up with no business email. I signed up for the hosting services years ago, because I wanted to have a website, but now I realize that what I really want is just a business email and it's simply unreasonable to pay so much for the website I don't need. Or can you use iCloud to host your website, too?

      Same question here… all the email accounts you set up are tied to the iCloud folder everywhere… hopefully this can be an iOS / iPadOS 17 feature, until then, I reckon I’m gonna get back to Google Worksuite; I hate Google, but it’s the only way to keep separated folders within mailboxes, personal, business and so on. With iCloud mail custom domain you can set up to 3 different accounts per domain, but all of them go to the same inbox, same send messages folder and so on… Please Apple fix this! We wanna leave Google…

      I am not an expert, but if your domain email domain is pointing to Microsoft or Google and you want to point it to Apple Account instead, then you need to log into your CPanel which is where you bought the domain from (eg GoDaddy). Then you update the MX Records, etc., so it points to where you want your Email Domain Hosted. Correct my understanding is wrong.

I'm also using Hover and everything else seems fine. When doing a host lookup from Terminal (e.g. using commands like "dig" and "host"), I can confirm all details are correct.
    I am moving my email hosting from google to iCloud as I thought I might be saving some money as the iCloud solutions is cheaper, but I'm beginning to think it's now a case of "you get what you pay for". There's a reason it's cheaper.
    Anyway, I've tried everything possible but to no avail. I have now opened a support case with Apple. In the meantime, I'm not receiving any emails, so any advice would be appreciated.

    it won't add my domain in iCloud! When I do, it says "There was a problem adding this domain. Try again later."

    Make sure your DNS matches 9:06 exactly, it should work within minutes, not 72 hours. Hover had pre-loaded values which I had to delete to make it work (this cost me 2 days of waiting & 1hr+ of refreshing & frustration.

    I have namecheap and my settings are very different, I'm advanced DNS and don't see those things, MX and TXT are in two different areas as well. Ughhhhh

    Okay you really need to update this video. I tried adding the new updated DNS records to hover and iCloud keeps saying "Check your SPF record". not to mention, Hover is not accepting the quotation marks Apple says to add to the record.

    Everything worked except that I'm getting "user name or password for iCloud is incorrect" when I send email from my phone. It directs me to settings, but there's no where to re-enter the password. I am able to send from my iMac using the new account after I selected iCloud for the SMTP server. What setting on the phone and iPad do I need to change?

      To answer my own question in case anyone else runs into this, the fix was to sign out of iCloud and back in again. *sigh*.
