  • Audi updated their "big E-Tron" and now it's the 2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron! 2024 brings more range from more battery and better aero, along with a revised rear motor and some handling tweaks. While the #q8etron isn't exactly "sporty," it's a supremely nice and pleasant electric #suv that is quieter inside than an #Audi A8.

I just bought a 24 Sportback and I love it. I've had 0 issues with charging and it's plenty fast for someone coming from a Q7. Now the SQ8 is basically here so you'll have your sports car. Just remember with that type of aggressive driving will be more aggressive battery usage! So be careful whatcha ask for lol

Glad you're loving it! The SQ8 e-tron should be much more performance oriented, for sure.

Thanks for the detailed review. I just test drove one and I feel the same way. I'm looking for sporty and that is not sport tuned.

Enjoyed the review. The charging thing is just part of the EV early adopter experience. If one has got a home with a lvl2 charger it goes a long way to solving most of the problems.

Thanks! And yeah, having a home charger does go a long way - although this platform having some DCFC charging quirks with certain stations (in all of our experiences) doesn't bode well for road trips or other charging-while-out needs.

Gotta love how all OEMs use the term “up to” when talking about charge rates. Reality seems to be that many charging stations simply cant or won’t output as much as the vehicle can accept.

It's a weird dance between car and charger to get the right output, and the vehicle's charging curve isn't often discussed either. Some can get to their stated peak (in this case, 170 kW) very quickly and hold it for much of the state of charge, maybe from 15% to 65 or 70%. Others will briefly hit the charging speed peak for 10% of the charging curve and then slow back down. The way we collectively talk about it is not super helpful right now.

I feel like the only time that the coup-ified crossovers work is when it comes to electric cars. If I’m not mistaken, the Q8 Sportback gets better range than the standard one. Which would make sense due to the coefficient of drag. That is the only reason why any of this would make sense….

Yeah, the Sportback gets a bit more range and the aero of the design definitely helps there. But at the loss of carrying ability.

Have you considered researching the car, you are reviewing? Just asking because it is obvious you have no concept of charging or charing speeds.
Also, not very honest about your charging experience in Reston.

Hi! Curious how you can claim I’m not being honest about my experience in Reston given I simply lived it and mentioned it, and last I checked nobody was hiding in the backseat taking notes.
This vehicle can DCFC up to 170 kW. It will pre condition the battery if you have a DCFC station in the Audi nav, which I did. The Reston EA stations all failed in various ways, the second EVGo station achieved 80 kW or 50-ish kW which was far too slow given SoC, regardless of the vehicle’s charge curve. The third and final station (another EA) got up to 120 or so which was close enough given SoC and curve and so on, but roughly 30% slower than what Audi says the car can do even for a brief moment.
Happy to engage in polite discourse here but either way thanks for the ad revenue.
