We’ve all been there… One moment you’re fired up for your goals and future sexy self, ready to diet and conquer the world. The next? Not so much... This video will teach you all about how to stay motivated to lose weight backed by science!
But after just a couple days, you’re back to binge eating chips and watching hours of Netflix.
What is happening?
Why is it so difficult and what does the science say about motivation?
Today, we’re going to be answering these questions and uncovering the real solutions to how to stay motivated to lose weight, backed by scientific solutions.
Point #1. Motivation is fleeting and losing weight takes time
The main problem people face when wondering how to stay motivated to lose weight is that motivation wears off and temptation will always exist.
My boy Zig Ziglar has a good quote about the solution to this:
“People often say motivation doesn’t last, well neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.”
The secret here is to use our incredible 21st century technology to keep reinvigorating yourself with more motivation.
The easy ways to do this are:
• Listen to daily podcasts on being healthy
• Read books our use audible.com to listen to health and fitness audiobooks
• Or even attend conferences and events held on health and fitness
All of these things will help re-inspire you and keep you motivated
Point #2. Everyone has limited amounts of willpower
Have you ever noticed it’s easier to make tough decisions in the morning but harder to make them evening?
This is because your willpower, similar to a muscle, is a limited resource.
After a long day of hard decision making, a psychological syndrome called decision fatigue sets in and makes it more difficult to say no to that pizza
The solution here is to use habits instead of relying on willpower.
Habits, since not consciously made, don’t dip into those willpower reserves and are decisions made on autopilot.
Simple habits like drinking a large glass of water right when you wake up or not eating after 7pm are easy to establish and will help you when your motivation and willpower fades.
Point #3. Progress can be deceiving
The mirror plays games when It comes to losing weight and getting in shape.
Many dieters have experienced the situation where they are losing weight and feeling better, but are seeing no physical results in the mirror.
This can be crazy frustrating.
The solution is that measurements don’t lie.
It may not sound sexy, but diligent tracking progress is crucial for success
• Yes, take photos, but also make sure to
• Weigh yourself
• Take measurements
• Take videos
• And keep studious track of these records.
Progress = motivation and this will keep you from getting discouraged by the mirror.
Point #4. Being healthy doesn’t have to suck
When most people think about getting health and fit they envision eating dry chicken breast, bland broccoli, and running for hours on the treadmill.
It doesn’t have to be like that, nor should it.
Find something you love, especially when it comes to exercise
• Yoga
• Pilates
• Boxing
• Crossfit
• Booty Bootcamp
• Biking
• Running
• Hiking
• Weight Lifting
• Prancercising
• Kayaking
The are A TON of options
With all those options out there, you have no excuse not to find something you love and can stick with.
Remember a perfect workout routine you hate is going to be less effective than finding a type of exercise you love and can stick with.
Point #5. Design small rewards for sticking to the plan
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
We humans may think we are complex and gifted beings, however, we are still simple animals.
Basic reward systems in almost all major weight loss studies work on us just like our furry brethren.
As talked about in our previous video on New Year Resolutions, reward systems work.
Having a cheat meal once a week or even a reward day every few weeks on a diet can provide a lot of psychological relief and something to look forward to on those more temptation filled days.
So in summary the solutions for how to stay motivated to lose weight are:
#1. Find a daily source of motivation
#2. Focus on establishing 1-2 core habits you can stick with
#3. Track your progress diligently
#4. Find a type of exercise and diet plan you ENJOY
#5. Reward yourself for sticking to the plan
Before you go if you wouldn’t mind leaving a like and a short comment on the video we’d really appreciate it.

I think that living alone would make diet so much easier overall
Sleepy Claus I wish I leave alone because u won't have to face the pizza u'r family gets every Tuesday 😒
Bruhhh this is what I always say. I live with 5 other people and my house always has snacks -.-
Right!!! Like u hungry and look in the fridge and the first thing u see are chips or some other unhealthy thing
I keep asking my mom to precook food so if in hungry there will always be something healthy to eat
Agree

w0t m8
having dinner late is actually good bcs it would prevent u from snacking at night
@@phebetn if ur sleeping then u can't eat .
See just eat 2 hours before sleeping!!
You could definitely eat after seven if you’re doing Intermediate fasting. Particularly having an eating period of 1 pm to 9pm and then fasting for 16 hours
It doesn’t matter what time you eat at, just eat in a caloric deficit, or try intermittent fasting
Anyone else struggle with binge eating overeating or emotional all eating?
Binge eating, emotional eating, social eating, and free eating are all problems for me.
Me
theFitty I binge eat when stressed
theFitty. I hated my diet and was overeating and cheating on it all the time till 'i have to eat that' changed to 'i want to eat that' i started changing my diet to a diet with food i like and want. it was way easier to lose weight that way. Just watch your calories a bit and you will be fine
theFitty Try focusing on gaining health. Focus on the positive. Focus on preparing nutritious and tastey foods. Incorpoate movement into your life that's fun. Think of the unhealthy binge as a flat tire on the road to health. Change it and move on.
I ain't rewarding my fattass until i have a 6 pack.
what's in my card deck? You ain’t gon geta 6 pack until you motivate yo self wit sum bacon
lol good luck that’s not gonna work
Do you have that 6 pack now?
If not you’ll have it soon keep working 💯💪🏼
Have a cheat day bro. It actually benefits you.
Lmao good luck
Whenever I’m on a diet I’m frustrated because I don’t lose weight and then I eat really much because I’m so frustrated 🤦🏽♀️

Distract yourself with a hobby. That's how I overcame that problem.
bbg it’s bc diets don’t work, you need a lifestyle
When I start to lose motivation I tend to watch these sorts of videos. I've been making life changes since August and have lost 53 ibs so far, with only 7 until I'll be at my goal weight!
Luna Equestrian hows it goin ? :)
Have you hit your goal yet?
Well done, I've lost 7lbs got 32lbs to go ,HIIT is working well along with clean eating, soccer, walking, stairs
That's amazing! How is it going? I've lost 27.5lbs and I have another 10 to go.
I’ve lost 20 pounds, have a shit ton left :(
I currently lost 15 pounds, and I have 30 more pounds to go!

I’m not fat but I need to stop my sugar addiction and binging so ...
hErE i Am
FOR REAL
THIS SUCKS
Me too, except I'm extremely fat and am also addicted to high-carb foods. My two-week,low-carb, low calorie, low sugar diet is gonna suuucccckkk...hope that it'll be worth it, though.
Screw it, I need more cardio; I’ll do one minute of skipping for every like this comment gets, motivate me!!!
Dng 5 mins of skipping is stilll harddd
So 5mins more for a comment
One hour bro
Macapacca progress?
I hope you're doing the extra 4 (almost 5) hours.
don’t let a bad day discourage you! If you miss a gym day or eat poorly one day, don’t let it take over! Even a lite gym day or slightly healthier choices is still improvement.
well my motivation is my crush
n o f u c k s g i v e n so. Fucking. True. I lost 10 kg and got a six pack for my crush. I ended up getting rejected😂😂😂 but ever since I got that sweet six pack, all girls want to date me.
Hadi Kourdi which girl says no to a six pack????!!!!
SlimeFest 48 My crush apparently
THATS MEE!
I lost 60 pounds losing weight for my crush and after I lost the weight he got back together with his ex, safe to say o went back to binge eating because of sadness now I’m trying to get back to normal again
I've lost 80 pounds so far but can hardly tell a difference personally. I get told I look better but don't see it myself. However, I've found my motivation in reaching for goals. Steady progress on a 5 k (made my first mile jog ever 3 days ago) and doing a pull up unassisted.
We can do this everyone!
Negative Pressure Productions did you take progress photos? It will help you see the difference😄
How long did it take you to lose the weight?
Negative Pressure Productions I also had that problem in the past. I was diagnosed with body dysmorphia. It’s like I have never been able to see what I seriously look like. Maybe see a therapist if you can and see if it’s something you can work on. I hope you get there and get to see all the hard work you put into it.
Nice

I say you do 20 today
I will do 50 sit up for free
yep in the morning I'm not hungry but at night I want to eat a lot 😦
MR.C4RT00N !!! The Health Nerd do you have any recommendations for this? possible video on this? I'm new to your channel, so you've already made one, my bad.
MR.C4RT00N !!! Saaaaame. Weird, huh? I'm trying to eat once a day (like around 15:00 or something).
eating once a day is probably not the best idea
MR.C4RT00N !!! sameee
Try Intermittent Fasting
Funny thing, when I was trying to loose weight a few years back, cheat days were not good for me, because they would feel more like failures instead of rewards, because I ate what I was not supposed to and they also made me lose my motivation because I would feel like they broke my streak and I did not want to start again from zero. Great channel, guys!
Heyy, are you still losing weight? You should take it as a 'treat', not 'cheat'.just moderate it and fit it into your daily calorie intake :) you can do it!
This comment really speaks to me! I think it’s our perfections personality! Well for me anyway! It’s hard to change mindsets!
Thanks for the comment
it’s called food guilt and it’s normal. in my experience, cheat days are good to satisfy your cravings as long as you do it in moderation. you’re not gonna lose all your progress just because of a donut
I've been doing this healthy lifestyle for five weeks now and today has been my second cheat day however my next cheat day was meant to be next week so, I had a really dark moment today where I nearly binged on the rest of my unhealthy food but instead I told myself that I should stop now that I've treated myself a little and that I haven't blown my diet
I'm proud od you!
Good job
I usually end up forgetting that I’m trying to eat healthy, and eat when I’m bored
Maybe I’ll try the glass of water thing
omg same i forget completely and then the next day im like WAIT I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ON A DIET

Thanks, I've enjoyed a few of your videos before, but I really wanted to thank you for this one. I'm a recovering 40-year sugar addict that basically needs to lose a whole extra person before I can seriously enter the dating scene. I've been feeling overwhelmed by the length of time this process is going to take and your video has given me renewed confidence that I will be able to stay motivated for the long run with some of the things you list here.
Oh, and my reward will be for each month I'm 'clean' I will treat myself to a Kickstarter Board Game. I can't see using food as a reward since I'm trying to get away from that mindset.
22 pounds down in 3 weeks, about 150 to go, sadly. But honestly, thanks for the tips.
Good luck dude! I hope for the best!
Best of luck man!! U can do ittt
Curtis Arndt How’s it going?
No one believes me when I mention decision fatigue. Thank you for acknowledging its real. I make a lot of bad food choices from decision fatigue. I have been posting my weight loss journey on my channel. Thanks for making this video. Great ideas to stay focused! ❤️💪🏾

the greatest results that I have had was by using the Triple trim formula (just google it) without a doubt the most useful diet i've followed.
SSSSSMILZ You're funny!
+Estevan Sanz I ain't payin 50 for a mere diet.
I'd rather buy a workout program which is specifically tailored for me
#6: watch The Health Nerd Daily to stay motivated
Point # 2 is SO TRUE. Thank you SO MUCH. You have no idea how great it feels to FINALLY have someone acknowledge what I have ALWAYS tried to explain to myself and people around me. I now feel that I can truly do it. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
I've been binging on your videos for like an hour (while pacing and stretching) and I cannot even describe how helpful these tips are. It's been a constant issue for me, trying to find healthy ways to... well, promote being healthy and fit without starving myself or being perpetually disappointed with my lack of enthusiasm to workout or count my calories. You are appreciated, and I genuinely and sincerely appreciate your existence.
I'm 4'11" and have about 15lbs I want to lose, but I always find it so difficult to stay in my calorie budget for more than a day. I want to eat when I get stressed and when that happens, I don't care about my goals anymore at all. I've been trying to lose this weight for a couple of years now but can't keep on track. 🙄😂
Caroline Hively yepp. When I'm stressed I do emotional eating...
This is like my story.
I know the feeling of demotivation friends are a big part of it. I lost weight over a year and the first comments were on how big my hips and stomach was I'm on a 1200 cal diet and I was extremely upset I'd lost weight though gained muscle now I am trying to find out where I went wrong the plan is exhausting and I ended up eating a whole dessert as I felt why bother
tbh it helped thinking that i run not to lose weight but to get better at running and breathing, kinda want muscles too
but it's a change of mind, it's not like a decision i gave myself, it's was just like, it's been years, f it, feels better when i run and then i go to bed or smth since the feeling kinda lasts.
and it kinda helped my stress on my exams, but it can be boring though
and i don't read the scale bc i know i'm gonna get demotivated and if i hit my goal (of kms per day) i will immediatly leave when i could do more
i like feeling the "pain" of my exercices too, if i don't feel it i won't neceserally be motivated so i ignore it but it's still kinda there so doesn't matter
This is 100% how I've been staying motivated for the last 4months (and 16.5 lbs ago!) I hated working out but found a Groupon for my local crossfit gym and I've ended up falling in love with it, and before when I'd 'diet' I'd cut my calories to the point of being miserable all the time but now eat more than ever (and still somehow manage to lose at least a pound a week) I've taken crazy amounts of pictures at every angle and share them on my personal social media, the recognition I get from that from my family and friends helps me stay on track, and I reward myself on Saturdays, I don't go insane but I have a treat - today's sushi!
These tips really do work!
I love health nerd's videos, and the content of this video is so true. I've personally experienced that absorbing daily fitness and diet health motivation via videos/podcasts/books/blogs is very helpful to adhering to exercise and diet committments. I've lost 10 pounds in the past two months and replaced a lot of fat with muscle. Keeping on!
This has become my favorite channel very quickly. It's educational, with a bit of added humor and it's do-able. I love this

Love that you guys make a summary of the video at the end!!!
cheating meal is always my downfall😢
Azul Tequila if you find you go overboard on your cheat meal, have it with a friend, and let that friend know that you don't want to go crazy with the amount but would like to have something. That's what I do and it's working great! If you can't do that, before you have your meal drink a large (like the biggest cup you have) cup of water, that's helped me before as well 😊
Azul Tequila cheat meal always becomes cheat day and eventually cheat week #fml
Azul Tequila I remember when I lost 32 pounds, then went on a few cheat months and gained back 14 pounds. Trying to lose it again.
Yep. Mine too. After a lifetime of "dieting" I finally decided the best way to diet is give up everything that tastes delicious and make everything from sugary, fatty, or not diety foods a no-no. The way I used to kid myself! I thought I as long as I ate whole grains and raw veggies I could eat an oreo every time I got bored.
Have you thought about cutting the cheat meal in half and restraining yourself from eating it too quickly? Savor every bite. Try having a couple sips of water between every fork full. If you feel like you're taking in too much water too quickly, slow down even more. Don't allow yourself to continue unless you're taking in water at an equal or greater rate.
i was so motivated before becuase this girl saying she doesnt like me since i was 'FAT'. I remove all this 'FAT' and after a month she liked me when i no longer liked her 😁😊
This is the first video I’ve seen and I love it so simple and short and not boring at all love it
I love the health nerd! I learn so much and your little 'rumor has it' segments at the end of each video always makes me grin ear to ear. Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you! You are amazing and I am really grateful for you providing people with useful information in such a little amount of time.
#1. Find a daily source of motivation such as listening to daily podcasts on being healthy, reading books or even attend conferences and events held on health and fitness
#2. Focus on establishing 1-2 core habits you can stick with like drinking a large glass of water right when you wake up or not eating after 7pm
#3. Track your progress diligently. that means take photos, but also make sure to weigh yourself, take measurements, take videos, and keep studious track of these records
#4. Find a type of exercise and diet plan you ENJOY like Yoga, Pilates, Boxing, Crossfit, Booty Bootcamp, Biking, Running, Hiking, Weight Lifting, Prancercising, Kayaking
#5. Reward yourself for sticking to the plan. have a cheat meal every week, or if you know that your family has takeout friday, you can make that your cheat meal.

I especially like the tip about taking pictures and measuring and keeping yourself motivated by basically keeping a visual reference of your progress. I am going to start my healthy weight loss Journey this week and I think it would be cool to do a video with pictures of my progress.
I like to binge eat seaweed snacks when I watch Netflix....OK fine..you got me
It's so true though - listening to podcasts throughout the day keep me inspired and motivated to live out my greatest self. I've noticed when I get out of the habit of doing that, I start to fall into that negative mindset again and lose motivation.

you r becoming my favorite tips channel .. your videos about stress management and losing weight really cool and useful , keep the good work
This video was really helpful! Thanks!
But when your main goal is to lose weight isn't it rewarding enough to see those pounds go away ? I feel like that would make me happier than a cheat day/meal
Absolutely! Our fast weight loss incorporates a cheat meal at the end, but a lot of people either skip it or don't eat as much as they thought because they feel so good already!
You don't understand the realities of emotional eating. Like he said, weight loss takes time, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. When you have emotion based cravings and you are denying them, it increases your stress level. Limited will power is another obstacle here.
I prefer to reward myself with things other than food. I just bought a new pair of running shoes after losing 10lbs and sticking to my diet/workout plan for the month of April. But if you don’t feel like you need the rewards as motivation then that’s cool too. 😎
B.B. Otaku It is me. Since I've been eating better and exercising, I've had a boost in energy and stamina. I just feel good all day every day. To me, that's motivation for me to keep going and improving.
you're kind of correct. i make the cheat meal really small though, like i avoid fried foods but i eat a small serving of fries or something now and then
Remember guys the real measure of your character is what you do when the excitement is over
This as helped so much! Thanks for another AMAZING video.

I understand if sometimes we fall into temptations but WHY DO WE BINGE God?! Why?!
Nia Thompson TRUTH. Procrastination has been ruining not only my mental health and state, but my physical as well. I don't go out to meet friends or do sports because I need my time to learn, but at the end of the day I just sit there binge-watchinf and binge-sitting. Makes no sense at all and only stresses me out about the things that hurt me, as you put it. But I'm changing it!
Nia Thompson TRUTH. Procrastination has been ruining not only my mental health and state, but my physical as well. I don't go out to meet friends or to do sports because I need my time to learn, but at the end of the day I just sit there binge-watching and binge-eating and making it worse on several fronts. Makes no sense at all and even though it dustracts me, behind the curtains it stresses me out about the things that hurt me. But I'm changing it!
we binge from cutting calories. our bodies are not stupid. overtime you will find that the more fat you lose the hungrier you will get. It all comes down to the choice of food. load up on the wholefoods like fruits, veggies and starches. they will satisfy your micro needs while the low calories of whole foods will allow you to eat in bulk instead of miniscule portions of junk. of course I'm not saying avoid all proccessed foods, but try to make the bulk of your calories come from raw foods and whole starches. you'll have more energy eating this way and you'll be able to eat plenty without getting too hungry from cutting.
hope that helps!
Men seek pleasure in eating.
“Don’t eat after 7 PM” .. my family and I usually eat dinner at like 8 though 😂😂
