    A base function of the the Oedipus Complex is the primal horde. The primal horde is the drive that guides offspring to take the patriarch's position or be like the patriarch as a symbol. The swastika is the riech's totem to replace the mirco-patriarchal symbol. To look and see the symbol constantly is a reminder of the father and to be like the father. One father for a nation that is admired and that the populous models themselves after is as homogeneous as it gets.

      says i'm thinking the nuclear family structure, as d & h (and others) instruct is problematic, i know i've been caught in the grips over the years of family structures that don't go from instruct to later support ... but insist on instructing and directing their whole lives ... so typical and tyrannical in that way

      @@clumsydad7158 I can agree with that. In structural theory, looking at the societal and family structures of pre-WWII Germany, a directive leader at all levels (regional leader, local leader, community leader, employer, and father) makes sense in terms of communicating and perpetuating a paranoid message that a group of individuals is to blame for a whole country's economic problems. Those who do no prescribe are eliminated, alienated, disenfranchized, or marginalized by all these little dictators. ideas and messages in a time of depression that communicate hope through a charismatic leader can be amplified through the smaller systems under him/her.

      I think she made the point to extend an olive branch to conservatives in the audience. It's a good way to make the points she's about to make palatable by disarming that right wing persecution complex. Maybe it mitigates the usual angry defensive rejection and gets people like that to look at themselves critically. Personally, I don't have much faith in that strategy but one can hope.

      @abcrane Před 2 lety +2

      Actually, he noted the failure of the commune (not communism, not fascism, but communal life) was a failure due to the psychology of the youth that was molded on authoritarianism . People do not make these distinctions and misread Reich . Reich started sexpol which was to liberate sexuality (birth control and safe places for youth sexual activity). He states that the youth movement failed because they did not embrace the more human needs of sex and community but were steeped in political infighting within the communist party (not the Nazi party)

    I don't agree with Ms. Bell's definition of the primal horde... It comes from a Darwins' theory (The Descent of Man) which says that in a "prehistorical" era, humans lived in large groups, the primal horde, dominated by one older male, who could monopolize all females. In that sense, I guess the older male is nobody else than the fascist leader. Freud developed this idea, and most of all the idea of the murder of the Father (Urvater), in Totem and Taboo.

      The truth is that nature and biology is inherently fascistic. Tribalism, group struggle, the acknowledgement of the importance of leaders and the subjugation of the individual in order to aid the greater ideal of the group. These driving forces at the root of humanity are an inconvenient reality that runs counter to the egalitarian, liberal and progressive ideals that control the western world today.

      What a bunch of ridiculous eco-fascist nonsense. Human beings have hospitals... Where's your acknowledgement that humans are capable of co-operation? Futhermore, humans trans-functionalize our biological drives in all sorts of ways - just look at the history of human sexuality vis a vis the history of civilization! You really need to do more reading than whatever Nazi blogs you're warping your brain on. This is youtube, not Stormfront's forum. Bye, nerd.

      @@CheechWizard22 if you're looking for texts which might counter this bias, I would mention mutual aid by Kropotkin. Darwin did not stress just competition but argued for the importance of cooperation within populations. I'd also point you towards entangled life: Sheldrake talks about lychens / the complex (sometimes parasitic, sometimes symbiotic) relationship between plant and fungal life. Resting on competition and self interest as the primary explanatory factors in biological development is only seeing half the picture.
