The genius in this sketch is that Harry and Paul had the comedic third eye to realise saying 40 - 45 years several times over would be funny , but my god is it, the two surgeons characters,accent and delivery do help as well.
This is more than just comedy ,it’s a work of art ,thank god for these two geniuses ,England needs them more than ever ,must be forty ,forty five years of laughs .

I love this sketch. I remember a few months ago I was at a works do in a hotel and we were talking about Harry and Paul and mentioning this sketch. We then asked how long is the bar open for and one of the lads with us just passed and said 40, 45 minutes and we cried with laughter!
Such is the brilliance of this clip and in particular the reference to the length of the departed Bunny's marriage, that I missed might have been a subtle dig at Armstrong and Miller. Check out Bunny's full name 👍
One thing I love about this, the characters are so endearingly drawn. In Harry and Paul's earlier stuff, there was a kind of spite against the spoilt teenagers and the slobs.
I remember the first time I saw this I ended up rolling about laughing. And now, it has had the same effect. This is brilliant comedy. These characters are perfect and the dialogue...superb! Edit: I've recently shown these 'Surgeon' clips to my daughters and they quote them non stop. Especially this classic. Oh also the 'Quare' clips. So funny. They wondered, as did I, whether it May be the same Bunny.
Challenge - fill up your car but make sure it stops at £40.45. Record the conversation and see how many times you can say 40 45 and get the cashier to repeat it.
A very funny thing to do, when you watch this. Is to drink cognac or brandy every time they drink it.. as a game.. I've done that now about 40 - 45 times...

This series is getting better with age. They should be allowed to do more. But the BBC regularly lets all-time geniuses languish while promoting the hell out of tripe. And are then the first to air tribute nights to people they wouldn't give the time of day when they were alive.
