- Old lifestyle documentary parody from Harry Enfield's Television Programme.
The original documentary called 7UP caught up with people every 7 years from when they were born. They came from all walks of life.
Harry Enfield used characters from his television programme instead.
I've watched all those "7 Up" documentaries over the decades. This is the perfect parody of them. The social class attitudes in those programs are used to great comedic effect here.
“Maths never really was my bag. Whatever, I’ll still be at the treasury.”🤣
Isn't that what Gordon Brown said...? 🤔
The best bit is when the interviewer say, ''Tim, looking back....'' And he does.
" I was thinking of becoming an astronaut. "
" How come? "
" Well I've always liked horses. " 😂
Young Giles and Tim are played superbly considering their age..👍
This is so well done, it's almost toppling over into cruelty. Genius.
The detail he goes to, even down the backgrounds, is remarkable And yes it is almost cruel :-)
I cant believe how accurately this predicted the future of the UK.
We're fucked.
A young johnson 😂😂
Who knew that Nice but Dim would go on to be our Prime Minister? Amazing.
Yep that’s him
@Richard Johnson Not funny now that he's a threat.
Not nice, just dim
@@clavichord Can't argue with that. Boris has a fair bit of superficial charm but it's just that - superficial. Underneath he's a nasty piece of work.
Bozo the clown is dim but not a bit nice
the posh boy's school was my old school, Emanuel in Battersea, even had the same blazer. Weird seeing it again at the age of 44. It was used in Fry and Laurie's Jeeves and Wooster too, I was an extra, got 20 quid for the day's filming.
The exam room looks like what was the Junior Dining Hall in my day (the early 1970s).
I dare not imagine what my life would have been like without British humor. I've actually seen the 7 up a couple times. They aired it in America.
Frighteningly plausible in 2021.
I’m speaking to you from 2024 and even more so now I would say
@@cityzens634 It is so sad to think that Brits had the foresight to anticipate the benefit of long term tracking and observation of things like class and life chances. 7-up was a groundbreaking bit of TV. Sadly, all these years later we have lots of research and archive material but no settled view on what to do about the problem.
So funny. All the young actors are truly great (as well as the adults, Kathy Burke brilliant as ever)
How thick must you be to be turned down by Eton
You only get turned down at Eton if mummy and daddy can't keep up the payments.
Ask #5 - he only got accepted because of his paternal grandmother
Less so now, but this was the mindset of plenty. Tim goes into the City, the Forces, or academia. Wayne into a factory, prison, or unemployment.
So wonderful to see Johnny Vegas made something of himself. ❤️
Little Tim “ Nice but , but Dim” looks adorable and such a good actor .
He is just fantastic
@Mr Tubes - I don't know if you are aware that your comprehension skills are terrible...
@Mr Tubes - Apologies, it must be your communication skills that are terrible... ;)
Matt Hancock, surely.
@@nolongerlistless Don't insult the actor
"Most of all I want to be a managing director of a crisp factory"
0:08 the accuracy of the kinescope image of the 1950's is amazing. They actually went to the trouble to do it like they did in the 50's.
whats a kinescope image
@@paulhunter123 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinescope. A recording of a television program on motion picture film. It's how shows were archived before videotape.
Little Tim was perfect.
l remember listening to the radio before going to school and the djs were exactly like Smashy and Nicey.
Reminds me of Johnson except he’s Not Nice….but definitely dim.
Just got it. Astronaut. Equestrian.
Pure genius.
Jacob Rees-Mogg
Penny Watson of course he is , and he’s posh and has been born with every privilege and he doesn’t give a flying fuck or cares a jot about anyone else .. so he’s exactly like Tim Nice But Dim ..successful businessman lol yeah right so would you be, brokering his posh chums money, and his nanny the one he actually had , looks after his kids .. yes a real man of the people so go and think on
@@Paul-fq9pj Except that Nice But Dim is never offensive, whereas...
That’s Giles, of course. Tim-in-short-trousers-at-prep-school is Matt Hancock.
Back when the TV licence for propaganda was a traditional voluntary donation.
Top class, quality stuff!
" Two future citizens of Britian" Lord help us! 🤯😁😂😂
Very good. I hope despite the sad recent date of Michael Apted the real 7 Up series can continue.
@MichaelKingsfordGray It's almost like the internet and popular culture don't exist. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_(film_series)
Thank you for uploading
I wonder if Giles is related to JRM.
He is the spit of John Brisby from the actual 7 Up film. Little entitled snot spewing hate at the "lower classes" and then coming back in later episodes trying to gain sympathy by saying his father had died. (Still went on to Oxford and is now a QC...)
I might be the only one seeing that, but I think Tim @ 5:21 has an uncanny resemblance to early 70's Neil Young. 🤔
His mild, English public school, style of speech reminded me more of another great musician; Nick Drake
Bloody brilliant.!
Comedy genius!
That's Boba Fett himself Jeremy Bulloch. ;-)
What do you think of the working classes? 😂
Inspired
4.25 Mick Jagger.
Wonderful
Is that... Peter Jones? (Voice of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)
53 seconds. Jacob Rees Mogg at 7.
Brilliantly funny and mostly weirdly accurate🤔
Although it's a comedy it is reality in Britain. The class system is one of the worst things about life in the UK.
@@pennywatson8710 Disagree. Class is rife in Britain - a van driver will sneer at a street sweeper, for example. Didn't realise till I lived in Germany and got a comparison. Mind you they are getting there - snobbery seems to be endemic in western society, and UK has had longer without being invaded to develop it.
The class system is pretty much in every country, tbh.
@Blue Terrace - It's recognised more in the UK and there are anachronistic elements left over from the genuine class system of earlier centuries. I'm not sure how much more inherent it is compared to other countries. A major difference between Britain and some other countries, especially those that got rid of their official monarchies and aristocracies, is that class isn't necessarily defined by money alone. Though it's still the most important defining feature. However it's interesting to note that even in countries with no official aristocracies, unofficial aristocracies have established themselves. Also interesting, is the fact that America, which prides itself on having no monarchy or aristocracy and on the idea of social mobility, as espoused in the, 'American Dream' actually has worse social mobility and far worse income and wealth disparity than most of Northern and Western Europe. Including the UK. Yet they view themselves and to a certain extent are viewed as, a 'classless society. It's a difficult thing to pin down exactly - class. :)
@@Codex7777 You're a bit off in your assessment of America. Yes, we have an unofficial aristocracy however we arent stratified as Britain. A person can still get ahead and move upward or downwards. We are much more open to movement socially and economically. Keep in mind we have over 330 million people, 50 states and additional territories. You cant just paint a country as big as ours by looking at a small slice seen in the media. The media isnt reflecting huge swaths of the country.
@@olliefoxx7165 - I wasn't. Nice straw man though. ;) OVERALL social mobility is worse than in most of Northern and Western Europe. The 'American dream hs been a myth for well over half a century. It's a convenient myth for the establishment though. The few that do make it are publicised and lionised, to make it look like it's real.
4:10 my exact reaction
Very Funny But Very True
5.29..he went into politics instead..😊
I’m laughing so much 😊
Where’d they get the kids? There were superb.
Absolute genius
Somehow I don’t see this skit preformed today woked away
Mice or hamster? Lice, what the f*ck!
Thats Peter Jones as the narrator right???
Yes
The same Peter Jones who did Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy? I thought I recognised the voice.
excruciating to watch
Rondo veneciano I think!!!
Could you explain... Are the Venetians very class conscious or have I misunderstood you ?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Very self-reflective I'm afraid. Brought on a bought of imposter-syndrome. Frightful stuff.
Funny as a brick...
Not funny at all.
Then you have no humour
This is crap!
Yeah no way is this funny at all , same as that Bob Fleming sketch , tiresome , unfunny
What,s Catherine Tate got to do with anything ? just said the Bob Flemming was unfunny , same as this , only expressing an opinion
Russell Sims, you're wrong - it's actually quite good. Cheers
No it isn't. You're an idiot.
I agree with you, your comment is crap!
