Cleaning a Frigidaire Dehumidifer Bucket

  • This is a quick video on how to disassemble a Frigidaire Dehumidifier FFAP5033W1 bucket for a thorough cleaning. The manual doesn't make this obvious, but it's easy once you've got the trick. Now if only the filter on this thing actually caught any of the dirt and it didn't build up in the corners and crevices inside the bucket where it's hard to scrub.

3 years later, your video is still helping puzzled consumers who purchased a Frigidaire dehumidifier.
I can’t believe they haven’t updated the manual!
    Thank you!
I’m going to pick up a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and try that next time I clean the tank.

Hey! Ive had dehumidifiers for 20 years and never knew i even had to clean the things. I did these last couple days and thanks to you, I knew how to also disassemble the bucket and do that too. Thanks!

Thank you so much for making this video! The manual doesn't even indicate that part of the bucket CAN be taken out to be cleaned, and I nearly broke mine until doing a search and finding your video. Thanks again!

I appreciate you having created this video! Thanks! Mine had some slime in it that I couldn't reach with a brush. Now I can clean it using the jet setting on my hose nozzle. I knew there was a better way.

Instructions are fine. Thank you. I love your assistant! Fridgedaire makes cleaning this model difficult. Near impossible to get to the nooks and crannies to properly clean.

thanks! frigidaire needs to have this video on their own website.
by the way, i’m worried about mold developing in the bucket and, for prevention, am planning to (every few weeks) rub the bucket interior with a soap & vinegar mix followed by a water& baking soda mix and then rinse thoroughly. anyone have any other thoughts or tips for keeping mold at bay? is mold generally a problem in these dehumidifiers?

So I just got a dehumidifier the other day and I’ve been dumping it 2 times a day. I’ve noticed little black/brown particles and I don’t know if it’s mold or what. I assume it’s from the fan. I am trying to see if anyone has the same problem and I can’t seem to find anything on Google please help!

@@rnute9890 it’s dirt from the air. I vacuumed my basement where it was and it helped

Wow. I just found this after all these years (7).
I’ve been struggling with trying to clean this bucket out for so long, including putting bleach in there, and all kinds of stuff, and it not really getting clean.
Just got my handle off… with sone finagling… and oh much grosser than I could see before.
I tried cleaning with detergent and a kitchen scrub brush … and it’s just so bad. It’s in my dishwasher right now. Hope it works. Will update later.
    UPDATE:
Putting the dehumidifier bucket in the dishwasher did zip (nada) to get it clean. I had to use borax and one of those scrubby things.
I imagine Ajax or comet or some other cleaner like that would work too, but it needs some kind of a mild abrasive.
It's very hard to get all the nooks and corners clean.

I realize this video is a year old but giving this a shot: This is the model I have and inside where the bucket slides in, there's a metal clip where the button is that actually makes it turn off when the bucket is full. That clip is flopping around so it's not shutting off when it's full. I'm trying to figure out how that clip is supposed to look so I don't have to buy a new unit. Any ideas? Can anyone out there show a picture of where the bucket slides in so I can see what position that clip is supposed to be in? LONG SHOT!
