    Great video! The only thing I would add is I recommend heat drying it after using water on it for an hour or two with a space heater before reassembling. I have been trash picking for years, including on rainy days. Rainy day items I put 3 feet from the heat in front of my space heater to heat air dry them, before plugging them into a GFCI outlet, at least 24 hours after picking them up.

    Filter material is sold at Home Depot in a kind if thin cardboard framework, which can be easily cut open to remove the filter media and it can be easily trimmed and laid flat against the face of your dehumidifier and secured with tape if you aren't concerned about it being exposed and visible. I would be doing this for the purpose of keeping it clean so being able to observe it will only be helpful for frequent removal and replacement as needed.

    Hey Jim thanks for the video man you really went all out. You guys ever noticed any weird stuff in the water? For example my bucket has a sort of a lid on it I guess it's like your drip tray. I noticed where the water comes down through the hole in the lid that it's sort of like this blackish residue, almost looks like graphite. Of course the drip bucket has that stuff in it when I pour out the water the black stuff stays on the inside of the bucket. I tried cleaning the bucket a few times but it seems to be coming from the inside of the machine. The machine is pretty new. I did have it in a bathroom which had a mold spot on the wall though so I think it picked up some of this stuff internally. Also I bought a second machine last week and I just changed the water in it. It's a different model but the second machine the water that came out looked relatively clean. I don't see any black stuff in the bucket. I guess I need to take the first machine apart but I don't really how can I say. I'm not really a mechanically inclined and I'm definitely not comfortable taking a hose to it. I live near the seaside in the old house though and I have high humidity problems in here so I have to keep the thing running. I had another dehumidifier when I lived in another house and I don't remember that one ever happened this black residue either. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the mold in the bathroom wall. Anyway thanks for the video man take care

    • @DIYJIM
      @DIYJIM  Před 2 lety +2

      Sounds like it was some kind of mold. When I cleaned my dehumidifier it looked like I had some in the container also. Wish I could help you more

    • @StAnger561to770
      @StAnger561to770 Před 2 lety +1

      @@DIYJIM hey thanks for the swift reply man. Yeah I'm thinking it's some kind of mold too. Especially since I had a water leak from the roof and there was some growing on the wall in the bathroom where it was at for a while. And since my other dehumidifier doesn't seem to have the same problem but that's a new unit I just started using it this past week. Anyway I found the screws I'm going to try to open up this machine I'll let you know how it goes. I've been cleaning the filter regularly but that doesn't seem to help too much. I did take a paper towel to the aluminum fence and I was able to remove some of this sort of furry looking fabric type dust material. I want to get further into the machine though anyway thanks again for the video and the quick response

    • @StAnger561to770
      @StAnger561to770 Před 2 lety

      @@DIYJIM okay I was able to pull the machine apart I noticed a few strange things. It had a lot more screws than I realized at first. I wasn't able to completely open it up because part of the case is hard plastic and it sort of snaps together. There's a few parts I don't want to force because I'm worried if I break it that it's going to I mean if I pull too hard that it might crack the plastic or something

    • @StAnger561to770
      @StAnger561to770 Před 2 lety

      @@DIYJIM what I noticed is directly underneath the upper part where the aluminum fins cover the copper tubing there's a sort of Trey where the water collects before it drips down into the bucket. What I noticed is inside of this tray it had a lot of this gray material. Blackish Gray. It looks sort of like the fibers that collect on the lint screen. It seems more like lint than it does mold. I noticed a lot of the stuff around my house on the floor. It seems to collect after some time it looks almost like dust mixed with these sort of fibers. I don't really have any carpets I don't know it's kind of weird man. I tried to clean out the part of the visible tray as best that I could but I couldn't get under the part with the coils completely but I think this will help a lot as far as my bucket situation. The coils themselves and the fins seem relatively clean there was a little bit of a sort of fibrary stuff on them but not too much

    • @StAnger561to770
      @StAnger561to770 Před 2 lety +1

      @@DIYJIM I did notice another weird thing at the base of the machine underneath where the compressor is some of the coils to the right of it the copper coils there are somewhat wrapped in this sort of I guess rubber or rubbery stuff. Anyway directly under those tubes inside of the case I noticed this sort of brown gunk. I guess it's from the copper. And there was a little bit of water. It seems like there's some condensation or some dripping down from the tubes but I don't think it should be there. Part of it dried and it's left this sort of brown gunky stuff. I was able to wipe it out I don't think that has anything to do with the gray stuff in my collection bucket but it seems like this machine has a poor design. It's a sort of a slim model with the bucket coming out of the back. The other machines I had were such that the bucket was removed from the front and those seem to work better in my opinion
