    3D printed parts is great for rapid prototyping and very low production builds but the down side in manufacturing is the time involved and cost. It is 10 -20 times more expensive to 3D print over conventional manufacturing so if you were planning to build 3000 cars it would more cost efficient to go conventional cast and machining. The flip side is it is very easy to change the CAD model if something doesn't work quite right. I'm a retired manufacturing engineer from the heavy equipment industry.

      Yeah but the problem is conventional cars are all snore-fests, that just need to get regular people from A to B, safely at 50 mph and as cheaply as possible.
      There simply is not reason to develop stuff within that area, as it is nearly perfected already.

    • @Bullwinkle056
      @Bullwinkle056 Před rokem +1

      My experience has been with rapid protyping too, I'm a bit skeptical that you can make engine parts that will function for any length of time from these processes as I understand them.

    • @pero2727
      @pero2727 Před rokem +1

      Problem is; some of the internal geometry that makes these parts as light and strong as they are can not be machined or cast without making compromises with the parts becoming weaker and heavier. (access holes, sand core ports etc.)
      I know Koenigsegg 3d prints a titanium turbo housing that can not be conventionally machined or cast because of the geometry.
      This is not about the cost. It's about the hypercar budget that lets you choose the best way to make the best part, not the most cost effective one.

      This. Metal 3D prints, especially structural parts need to go through critical heat treatment cycles. Sometimes before you can even separate them from the printer's build plate. Then there's the fact you still have to do machining or etching to remove support structures & for surface finishing.

    We had some small 3D printers where I retired from. They had not taken the printers to that level yet, everywhere. But the design software was at the point of delivering all the dimensional and design requirements needed to create each separate part. Printed drawings of parts and castings etc. were coming to a close and PC to 3D Printed parts were at their entry. Awesome but devastating to many jobs like machining, drafting, casting etc. But you could create nearly any design in your head on a PC with the designing software and create that same part on a 3D printer. When they can do interstellar rocket/jet/turbine engines or whatever for space travel, robotics/automobiles, fusion engines etc. "lookout world". It is literally a whole new industrial boom coming soon to a theatre near you. Awesome future ahead if we survive the A.I. and greed of it. 🤠

    With how things are going, surprised to see it has a V8 and paddles instead of being all electric. Very nice!

      It's been about a year since I've gotten a message for Monday uploads. I think they just stopped pushing them. Not sure why, but it's rather annoying.

    As a mechanic, all I can think of is you couldn’t pay me enough to work on that car. Also, when everything is integrated, you can say goodbye to cheap parts. Instead of replacing just a piston, you’re replacing a piston/caliper/hub/lower controller arm unit

      You can stick with repairing a 2002 Camry. There are plenty of mechanics that would love to work on hypercars.

      Except that this is a $2.05M car. I'm pretty sure the people who can afford this can also afford to pay a mechanic $30,000.
      By the time this all becomes cheap enough to make your Camry, the parts will be...cheap...

    I'm sure it will cost an Arm plus 3 legs to replace that part. So if one part is bad you need to replace the entire thing.

      2mil who’s gonna be driving it out of their garage lol 😂. I’d be cringing every time I ran over a pole hole. Or worried somebody’s street needle would puncture my thousand dollar tire.
