Always good to have a revolver available for times when you can't afford to leave shell casings around for evidence.
😏
I hope the law finds an arrest you if they haven’t already
@@majinbuu19831 - Lol...
Lol! I never thought of that!
This fact has helped me in so many situations.
Got mine yesterday, took it to the range in the same shop I bought it from. Shot .45 ACP and .45 LC thru it. Learned real quick the difference between .45 LC and .45 Auto. They're basically identical in ballistics, weight, velocity, performance, recoil etc. ..... but they are *not* identical at the cash register.
You couldn’t be more wrong 45 ACP and 45 long colt are not the same in ballistics performance nor velocity it’s simple I don’t know if you can feel it or not but us normal folks can there is a big difference but what do you expect the 45 long colt has a bigger casing meaning more gunpowder meaning a louder bang meaning better ballistics meaning faster bullet meaning more power meaning faster FPS need I say more
@@majinbuu19831 it might be faster but 45acp is cheap by comparison. Plus idk if there's hollow point 45 longs but I'm sure there are. It just depends on what yer tryna accomplish with yer big iron 🤠 yeehaw! Money is the main difference I see.
One of my favorite carry around the stable and hiking firearms. The versatility is a real asset.
Hey Scootch! I've been a big fan and fowling you for some yrs now. Thanks for all you do and all the great in-depth videos you put out there. I know I can always count on you for an honest review and sound advice. Great review on this awesome hand cannon!
Best video on explaining what the moon clips were for. Thank you!
I really like your videos and the way you make gun reviews, very thorough
very interesting video and super informative...I have been looking at this weapon as a home defense option....truly appreciate your professionalism and taking the time and care, you put into your videos....
The s&w Governor is the best gun period!! but hear in the uk we can only have semi auto rifles and shotguns we can also own 50cal snipers id love to live in America. luv from the uk
I bought one 2 years ago and love it. I purchased a Diamond D "Guides Choice" holster for it as well. The Governor is not a range toy. I carry it when I'm out on my ATV and snowmobile. I also carry it when hiking. At home it sits on the table next to me when I'm watching TV or on the computer. Novelty my ass (I say this when reading other people's comments). If someone burst through my front door they would be facing Federal 410 self defense rounds which consists of (4) 9mm balls in each round at 1200fps. One round would either kill the bad guy or put him down, thus eliminating the threat. The gun is easy to shoot and very accurate as well. Kicks a little bit more with the 410 ammo than with 45ACP. Nice review Sootch, always enjoy your vids
SPOT ON !
Dead right Sir
Great video! Thanks for reviewing this and thank you for all you do for the gun community.
+Michael Collins Thanks Michael!
+sootch00 Great review Don!
You also forgot to mention that for people with arthritis revolvers offer a good choice since you don't have to rack a slide.
45acp is a great self defense round in my book.
I trust your videos more than the rest & I've been into hand guns for over 55 years, now 69 & a fan of all metal firearms owner of over 77.
GREAT review & AMAZING gun ! Thanks Sootch...
Awesome vid! I love your work sootch!
You answered all my questions I had about this pistol...Another great vid....Thank you...
Great Review as usual...... Thank you Sootch!
.410 000 buck is devastating. It's also very tight shooting from these type of guns. It's all I'd recommend using in it, none of that fancy novelty ammo. And a 45 colt is going to be better than a 410 slug.
So would 45 ACP.
Exactly why I carry .45LC
@@oceanwaves83 why ?
@@KQY614 ok.......just carry a 38......its lighter
What a wonderful review!
Just purchased this for snake/field use and your video was very helpful!! Thank you !!
Awesome review Sootch!! I never was a fan of this style gun. Never knew the difference between the Smith and Taurus either. This review changed my mind. I would buy a governor for a sidearm while out hunting. It looks super fun!! Once again great job buddy!!
I'm gonna go ahead and take this video as a sign. Been eyeballing them online for the last several days, and lo and behold here's the best review I've seen of the Governor yet!
Great stuff! I've been wanting to see A review on this one. I really enjoyed my public defender.
thank you so much for your great gun reviews! they have helped me to decide plenty of times. I have really enjoyed your channel for many years now. you are a true asset to the common man.
+Drew4078 Thanks Drew!
great review video and explanation. you covered all the questions I had. thanks
Great review. Also gotta comment on the 'outtakes' - always worth waiting for, kinda like desert after a good meal...
Love those close ups of you shooting. Amazing red fiery explosion out of the barrel.
the "GOVNA" on your holster cracks me up
+Stanislav Teroff I heard that.. but that's why it's called "THE Govna" : )
@@sootch00 Is it safe to load S & W Governor with .45 ACP + P with a moon clip? Also, can you safely shoot the + P of .45 Colt? Is it possible to use .45 GAP or .45 Auto rim?
I may not see eye-to-eye with you on everything, Sootch, but man you make the best video reviews for firearms. I love my Governor revolver. I never leave home without it. :)
I like the footage at the beginning with all the different cartridges and the wood in the background. Reminds me of back in the day when everything was wood, metal or glass (before plastic garbage took over stores).
I don't care what anyone says, if i had that I'd be very confident with a large buckshot shell in the longest it's chambered for.
We can argue the effectiveness all day but I'd be perfectly fine on the correct end of it.
Thanks for the video.
Now I have to go get me one...thanks for the great info on the governor...
Your best review,,, clear, fun and friendly. Home run.
Practical & versital pistol.
I love the thoroughness of your reviews! You got me in the market for the H&R Sportsman. Is it possible for you to review the Rossi Circuit Judge?
was gona get a judge but now I'm gona look into the governor!
Thanx for sharing
I'm getting the attorney & Mayor!
I’d always get a S&W before a Taurus.

I bought one for my field self-defense gun. I love all the ammo options and it shoots great and is deadly accurate within 30-40 feet. Of course, living in grizzly bear country, I keep it loaded with .45 long colt ammo.
ok... I think I have made my choice. a friend of mine has the judge and I really liked it but it looks like the Governor is more my flavor. thanks again for all your great videos.
Absolutly love my Governor. Had it about 8 yrs now. I have a Shortlane adapter to go from 410 to 22 so i shoot 22 rounds also. One correction- it does have an external safety just above the cylinder release.
a fantastic review...my thanks
I recently bought the stainless steel version of this. I love it.
Excellent review
Great review...definitely a game changer!
Thanks for a great video! Been saving up for one and getting one soon. I appreciate the clarification of shotshell length
+jman0701 Thanks Jman, I bought those 3" shells because I wasn't paying attention : )
Thanks for another great review Sootch. This review persuades me in some ways to keep my Governor lol. I've been contemplating about trading or selling my Governor for another firearm just because I haven't really shot it or seem to need it for home protection since I have a shotgun and my Glock 21 for those purposes. I do love this revolver for its purpose of versatility of taking different calibers.
I've had one since they came out. Crimson Trace grips. Custom leather from Desert Gun Leather. Love it!
Thank you so much, I have wanted more info one for a long time, going to get one now:-)
Appreciate all your hard work sootch00! I've been a consistent viewer for years and rely on your expertise. Can't wait to see all the fun reviews in 2016. Hopefully we'll see a PPQ 45. I also heard rumor that there may be a single stack Glock 40 coming.
+Aaron Hendricks Thanks Aaron. So many cool things coming.
Very nice review Scotch! I just recently purchased the Governor and also a Galco Master Combat and DAO holster for the gun. The Federal 000 buck seem to be best. I reload my .45 Colt with 240 grn. Sierra and Unique. I load up the moon clips with Silver Tip HP's. Great gun!!.
I love mine I am disabled and can only use 1 arm reloading is quick and easy with the moon clips I bought extra clips from midway usa
Perfect "30 ounce shotgun" for DISABLED folks who can no longer wield a full sized 8 pound combat 12 bore in their homes !
Thanks for the Videos.
I often wonder if you and your fellow CZcams video personalities have any idea how much good you are doing; how invaluable your videos are to those of us who are trying to prepare for the inevitable changes that are overtaking our Nation?
Saying 'Thank you' hardly seems enough.
Keep em coming.
Richard
A very cool revolver! It and its counterpart the Judge are in part what got me started in my interest in guns.
Well done, great review. I have the judge and love it.
Got mine for 6 during a black Friday sale at the base exchange, love it; threw on some vz grips.
I have one of these, its a fine firearm and perfect for Bedside or automobile use.
Can you tell me , do you have to pull the hammer for each shot ? Or can you pull it once and fire all 5 or 6 rounds ?
@@chrissotrillit’s double action, meaning you can shoot it uncocked (harder) or cocked (easier), you could shoot it without manually cocking it a single time. Hope this answers your question
This is my next purchase for sure. Your video was spit on. Love the holder.ty
Awesome revolver. Also love the 'stainless' version that they make. And enjoyed watching this on full30 the other day.
Great Review I have one and love it , Thanks
sits on the list .... just a Awesome Gun Love It
I am glad Adventure Outdoors didn't have a judge 'cause I found used governor w/box , clips, warranty card everything & in good shape for $471.I love it.More fun at an outdoor range.I took 10 guns & shot one, the gov.by S&W.
After 10 years, I finally picked one up! Can't wait for range day!
Man you must’ve been raked over the coals on the price. I was shocked to see the new MSRP on these things. Anyone have any idea why the prices went up so much? So glad I bought mine for $600 a few years ago.
@@franciscofranco5739 Dang! I got mine for $999!
Thank you sir you just pushed me over the edge
My EDC. I carry mine in a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster with the IWB straps.
Thanks for what you do!
In my opinion, the REVOLVER really shines when chambered in Big Bore Calibers. An example would be the Ruger Alaskan in .454 Casull / 45 Colt. The Power option is phenomenal! Self-protection when using 45 colt and Hunting any large game using .454! Accuracy out to 25 yards 3", slightly smaller but heavier than the governor.
This is a heck of a hand cannon matey! I have used the Judge on the range and it is delicious but this looks like something else indeed!
As I recall +Sootch00 did a review on the Bond Arms derringer a few years ago, that too would be devastating at close range, but its only two rounds versus the "Govena's" six. Still great review as always.
Hi Sootch00. Big fan of your channel, I love how you introduce a weapon and let us know your perspective and personal knowledge of the gun. This governor looks like an amazing revolver. Do you know what is a safe distance for the 4.10 to be effective? Thank you.
You forgot to mention, that the Judge & Governor play poker at the caliber club every Tuesday night.
+zonseeker 137 Oh yeah : )
+sootch00 Hey Don, I frequently go to my local Café Caliber, where the place mats are targets, and the welcome mat says Don't tread on me!
11:14 Those cheating two legged snakes.
I like this gun Sootch, I have a 2- 410 shotguns from my Great-Grandpa, and I always wanted a 45 cal. Nice video
Nice review. A tip for using the moon clip tool - it has a raised portion on the end to rest against the clip and use a twisting motion to remove the cases, no need to muscle them straight out.
My dad swore by the .410 said it built discipline. I harvested a lot of quail and dove with a .410 in my younger days. Moved on to 20 and 12 ga in long guns but a .410 up close out of a revolver might make sense in an apartment or while in a car stopping a car jacking.
Great Video. Picked up one myself. Amazing, versatile weapon. Points very naturally and handles the recoil surprisingly well. One effect not anticipated was feeling the blast effect on the ground in my feet with .410 ammo.
Getting the blackened stainless cylinder and anodized black scandium frame model. Short Lanes makes rifled inserts that allow you to use the Governor cylinder in 410 shotgun for
22 Short, Long and Long Rifle
327 Federal magnum as well as all other 32 caliber cartridges shorter in length
9mm and 380 Auto
38 Special and two other caliber cartridges. A set of six is available from Short Lane
Loved this one.. Helped reconnect me to this awesome firearm plan on picking one up soon..
Love your channel brother

I had a judge years ago and was amazed at how little recoil the 410 had, it was like a 32ACP. My yard was covered with dried leaves that fall and you could hear the unburnt power landing on the leaves. I also shot across a field at a woods about 200 yards away and it took forever for the shot to get there. It found a new home, I was never a fan.
awesome thank you always been a smith guy so now I so get one someday now I know you can load one of each at the same time back up lol !!!!!!
COOL , GUN !!!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BROTHER !!!!
THE REPUBLIC IS STRONG IN YOU !!!!
Easy to carry in the winter. Have gone out to dinner and a movie while toting this around easily.
Great purchase sir. I bought mine when they started hitting the shelves.
Really interesting Pistol, not for me, but, cool. I ordered 2 holsters and 1 mag holder from Jackson Leather Work, he told me every time you have a review and include his leather holsters they just get buried! I told him, I was going to go broke watching your channel and I wind up buying a lot of products you promote!! Lol
Well done on the review! Thank you!
I am in love this revolver is beautiful
Thanks sootch00. As it is difficult to find the S&W Model 25 in 45 Colt this at least offers a DA in addition SA as most 45 Colts are SA Cowboy Action Type guns. The .45 ACP with moon clips and .410 shotgun shell makes it interesting. Will see how it does at the range. For the desert it seems to be a useful tool with that combo load. Thanks sir!
Live rural Oregon, I have been carrying a Governor outside now for 5 years, had a Judge before, replaced after 6 months with cylinder issues. I use 2 shotshells 6 or 7.5 shot, 2 defence rounds, and 2 45LC rounds. I used to carry for a cross draw but it was cumbersome when working. I now have been carrying in the right back pocket for about 6 months, has yet to fall out and is readily accessible. Have used for Moles, goffers other close in vermin and nuisance creatures.
It's an absolutely gorgeous firearm. Such a nice fit and finish. So nice I hope I don't see one somewhere. Any more impulse buys and I'll never finish rebuilding the 400 small block I've had in the back 9 months.
"Or a two legged snake" There you go scotch, snake apocalypse
New Fan! Love Your Videos
Great video. Love the "two-legged snake" comment.
I bought mine for $750 love it great gun so smooth
very nice review
Hayyyy nice ZT. Finally some good steel
Very Good review, thx u dude
I use my gerber multitools needle nose plier to remove my casings from the moon clips.

This is the second gun you've talked me into (first being the .460 Rowland conversion) and the only thing I'd add is that the Governor is such a large frame gun that it can take X-Frame grips from Hogue if you need something to help soak recoil a bit better. Being that the X-Frame grips were made to tame .460 and .500 Magnum rounds, I'm sure they'll turn the .410 into a total pussycat.
Popped a handful of copperheads with mine the last couple years.
+Cameron Allen A bb pistol is more than enough for that, of course it can't protect you against bad guys. I have killed two aspid vipers with just bb's here in Europe.
excellent with the 410 for car jacking carry
S(.🤔.)w Revolves in black looking awesome.
Well done video
The real matatan.🤔.
That's a real beast! Whats up SOOTCH I AM the same guy that hollered at you on the Century Arms Instagram! LOL!
I purchased my Smith & Wesson Govenor close to when they first came out on the market. I love my Governor but this past Monday I went and purchased myself the Taurus Judge polymer. I know that the Smith & Wesson Governor is a better quality gun but I just had to have a Taurus Judge to add to my gun collection. I'm a big fan of the old school shotguns and the new school revolvers and derringers that take 45/410 rounds.
VERY INFORMTIVE THANKS
It is a great concept revolver.
i must have this! i wil be getting one, maybe 2 of these :)
I am glad someone else appreciates the advantage of moon clips over speed loaders like I do.
this will sound dumb but what is a moon clip and why is it better then speed loaders? I'm new to revolvers
@@builtdifferent244 moon clip holds the rounds together and doesn’t have to be removed to load the revolver. A moon clip is like a big rim that goes on all the cartridges rather than each cartridge having its own rim. Speed loaders just hold ammo until you’re ready to load the cylinder at which point the rounds must be ejected from the speed loader. Moon clips are faster and easier imo, particularly under stress. Its the same manual of arms as loading a single round, except you get 6 shots instead of 1. Look up the Model 1917 revolvers, they are where moon clips originated.
