  • This is the first video for my channel. I bought a unopened roll of MORGAN SILVER DOLLARS STAMPED CARSON CITY NV off of ebay for $1200. Comment on if I got a good deal or if I got ripped off? They are all uncirculated and I might get them all graded.

These are rolls full of sliders (coins that are in the AU58 range but look a bit better), the seller outs a good coin on one end to fool the buyers into paying double of what they would normally get for these coins.

You can tell by looking at the end of that roll that it was rewrapped. There are cheap manual tools you can buy, which will leave those rippled marks in the ends. The only CC was, conveniently, the one you could see on the end. Granted, the rest of them were in decent shape, but none were even semi-key dates. You were probably averaging $30-40 each on the others, plus maybe $150 for the CC. $1200 for maybe $910 of coins, and thats being generous. Maybe you can make it up on the few that are worth having graded.

Why would anyone sell a $20 roll with uncirculated CC Enders claiming it's an uncirculated roll, how do they know the inside coins are uncirculated ??
There's a guy here on CZcams that gives advice and he did some detective work on eBay ... Seen a graded/slabbed common date CC Morgan with several distinguishing marks sell cheap only to see this same coin as an ENDER in one of these rolls ...

You got ripped. Mechanical rolling machines were invented in 1947 and the patent issued in 1951. Any rolls prior to that would be hand crimped. The paper roll itself was not invented until 1921 and did not look anything like your paper. Rolls of dollars were done for businesses that needed less than bags. Mostly for casinos in Nevada and Montana to start with. Demand prior to the 1950's for rolled coins was just not there. Why did you not think to check this out? Did it just not cross your mind. Never thought that things might have been done differently a hundred years ago? Don't waste your money on grading, just throwing more of it away. All common dates and mint marks.

Sorry you got ripped off. It's a very expensive lesson, but one I am sure you will not repeat.
Beware of purchasing Coins, and in particular, Morgan Dollars on EBay. While there are many reputable coin dealers, there are enough crooks selling doctored or even forgeries.
If you can, go to a coin and currency expo. Most, if not all dealers are going to sell you genuine coins. They will also help you learn about them. Learning about coins is the best thing you can do for yourself. Become very familiar with the coin types you collect.
And I agree that these coins are not worth enough to get graded by third party grading companies. Just put them in your album, and admire the beauty of their design.

You should take these to a coin shop and make a follow up and link it to this video and tell everyone what your profits are from the deal. By the way if you send your coins to any company to be graded then guess what,,,, your coin got touched by whoever graded it with no gloves 🧤. So that settles all the glove comments. You would just be wasting money having the others graded. They are average dates and only worth grading if you plan on keeping them for your own collection.
For resale, there isn't much of a point in grading. It costs a lot to grade each coin and you won't get much return on investment if you do sell them in the future.

I enjoyed guessing the mints as you worked through but my heart sank for you. I only got two wrong and even that's because I thought you might at least have had an S with the 1880 or 1881. The mint state 1889s were never going to be CC and were bound to be Philadelphia, just as the 1886s were. They look okay coins but I fear you got taken to the cleaners by a dealer who was desperate to shift a stock of ten-a-penny Philly dollars. The 1884-CC is obviously worth having but you'd have been better off choosing one on its own. I have time for some of the O dollars like the 1902, but I think you'll be stuck with those 1886s and 1889s. A lesson not to buy a roll blind so it was an instructive watch.

The roll has been planted for profit. It isn't an original bank roll from 1914. I'm only 100% sure. One 82-83-84 common date CC just for effects and the rest repetitive common date coins. You overpaid a few hundred bucks!

If your coins average a MS60 grade your total would have been $1168. Most likely that is not the case so I would venture to say that you may have paid alot more than you should. Hey we all make mistakes when we impulse buy!

First off; if you're going to spend this much $ on coins you need to buy a copy of the grey sheet, either used or new. But dude, get your fingers off the faces of the coins!!! You gotta be careful around Unc coins, you can make huge value vanish in a moment of inexperience. As for the guy who says graders don't use gloves, I think I'll be giving the graders the benefit of the doubt on that statement. You didn't get ripped off, you bought a pig in a poke, you ripped yourself off. Hope your local coin dealer is a good one.

so you bought them for about 1200$ and your total value for all your coins (grade included) is 1215$ (p.s. if you kept the roll intact it the roll would be worth about 50-100$

If you are new to this - everywhere that you have touched a silver dollar or coin it will discolor within 1-2 years Literally you are ruining the value of your own precious metals. Any CC Morgans in very good to excellent condition are worth a fair amount so you might consider grading. You paid $60 per coin, not a great buy TOO EXPENSIVE, if you are lucky you almost get that much back with a smaller loss.

Why start with both gloves on and then only use one, and that one on the hand your not handling the coins? Never buy rolls of Morgan silver dollars off Ebay.

Im just getting into coins and Morgan's so I am glad I found this video. From reading all the comments im glad I never bought a roll cuz I would have been pissed cuz I wouldn't have known better either cuz they make it seem like your getting some badass Morgan's. In reality it's a scam from the comments. That sucks bro but you live and learn from your mistakes and i'm surprised all those sellers have good feedback unless people buy and don't have to much knowledge of what they're buying. Either way great vid and hopefully it will help other buyers stay away from them like me lol👍
Edit: dang they could've at least put some good dates and mints for that price. What you get 1 morgan cc?
