    So if my interface doesn’t have midi in and out? Will still work with pro tools with virtual keyboard? for using a midi file record or play midi file back and forward to keyboard synth?

    • @SOUNDINTHECITY
      @SOUNDINTHECITY  Před 2 lety

      The keyboard has to connect to the computer somehow to pass information. Either through Midi In/Out or maybe your keyboard can connect via usb.
      With a USB connection your keyboard will allow you to control a virtual instrument. Write and Capture Midi notes.
      It may even allow you to have the keyboard play back midi, but you will need to connect Audio Cables to record (in ProTools) the sounds coming out the keyboard, if it has built in sounds.

    • @SOUNDINTHECITY
      @SOUNDINTHECITY  Před 5 lety

      ADEYINKA OLALEYE Hello. You should be able to just plug your USB Keyboard to your computer, open up some software with a Virtual Instrument and play.... (if you need software, most companies like AVID, Reaper, GarageBand, Audacity, offer a free version or trial version to demo the software). If you want to play sounds from the TR8S into the Rubic22 you need to connect the Audio Outputs from the TR8S into the Line Level inputs using balanced TRS Cables. Adjust the gain levels, and create a audio track in your software to hear what's being recorded through the interface. If you require editing of your performance on the TR8S, then recording the audio and midi (this is a separate track in the software that's created only to record the midi note information), at the same time is the best option. If you make a mistake or need to shift midi notes, you can do so in the software and have the midi information sent back to the TR8S (via midi cables in/out) without you having to replay the performance.

      @@SOUNDINTHECITY Thanks for your reply. It helped me to some extent but did fully achieve my outcome. So I thought I'll provide you you with more infor:
      Please can you explain how to successfully connect my usb keyboard to my Rubix 22 audio interface and/or with my TR8S, plus my RC505 so I can record what I am playing on the keyboard (and the TR+RC), on my Mac Pro PC, via installed Soundflower or any other computer sound recording software (but I don't want to use DAW like garageband/logic etc, for my recording, my ideal recorder would be Soundflower.
      See what I have done/achieved so far:
      1. RC505 output connected into Ext-in on TR8S
      2. TRS8 mix-out connected into an input on Rubix22
      3. Keyboard connected with usb cable to Rubix22 (which enabled it to be a straight connection to the Mac PC with onboard Mainstage)
      4. An Output from Rubix22 connected to external speaker
      5. Another output from Rubix22 connected to the RC505 L-input (to allow recording also of ALL Outputs via the RC)
      6. I set up the Aggregate Devices & Multiple Audio Interfaces accordingly on my Mac
      7. Installed and setup Soundflower for recording
      My problems are these:
      1. With the above setup, normal straightforward inputs/sound output, into/out of all the devices through the external speaker ARE ALL OK and SATISFACTORY.
      2. Recording of all instruments (RC+TR) outputs via Soundflower all ok and satisfactory EXCEPT the Keyboard output NOT PICKED UP/RECORDED by Soundflower.
      3. Recordings with RC505 (via connection No 5 above) was feasible EXCEPT that the it was very low in gain (no matter the adjustments made), and worst of all, the KEYBOARD was almost totally INAUDIBLE.
      Sorry for asking so much, but if I can achieve the above, it would ultimately be my ideal home rig/setup. It would make me a very happy man. Am open to your suggestions too.
      Thanks for looking into it.

    Does buffer setting in PT have any effect on virtual instrument play back latency or midi latency where the midi notes don’t record perfect in time? I’m speaking all about ITB.

    • @Xpert_Spellbynder
      @Xpert_Spellbynder Před rokem

      Virtual instrument playback latency and artifacts happen for sure if you have a low buffer setting and not the processing power to back it up. So I think midi would be the same thing. A good work around is to bounce/freeze/commit tracks that have lots of plugins so you can record a part, then revert it back if those tracks still need to be worked on.

    Running MIDI cables in series is only if the keyboard is the synthesizer right?

    • @SOUNDINTHECITY
      @SOUNDINTHECITY  Před 6 lety

      Kenji Shiroma If you only want to control a Virtual Instrument, you can just connect Midi Out from the keyboard to Midi In on the interface. If you require the Keyboard to play back midi notes from ProTools to capture the sounds that are “in the synth keyboard,” then you would want them in series and have an audio track to record the sound.

    Do you absolutely need midi cables or can you do this by connecting the usb cable from synth to the computer?

    • @SOUNDINTHECITY
      @SOUNDINTHECITY  Před 8 měsíci

      The usb cable should be fine on it’s own to control a virtual instrument. The only reason you would want midi cables and audio cables connected from the synth to your audio interface: Write midi in your daw, and have the synth play that part back. Or you have midi and want to audition different sounds back on the synth

      I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question. Once the mircokorg is connected it can control one dedicated instrument. Or you can continue to record one instrument at a time. I think ProTools can have like 512 total midi tracks.

    • @SOUNDINTHECITY
      @SOUNDINTHECITY  Před 3 lety

      You can only have one sound going out the microkorg at a time via midi. Meaning if you write the midi in ProTools or Logic and tell the daw to play it back via the Microkorg, only one sound can be played back at a time....
      You could record the midi first and then record the actual audio for each track you mentioned. But sequencing the midi and having the microkorg play back all the sounds and switch them, isn’t going to happen because you have to move the actual dial on the microkorg, to change sounds.

      For the audio portion, you need to setup a separate audio track and make sure you’ve connected some wires from the keyboard to the interface.
      If you are only speaking on Midi with virtual instrument. Make sure you have midi thru enabled from the drop down... and also make sure your keyboard:midi controller is being recognized

      You got this man. Just follow the steps: Midi Out from keyboard - to midi IN on audio interface. Then Midi Out from audio interface - to Midi in on Keyboard.
      Make a new audio track in ProTools and assign the same inputs, where you connected the audio cables. (This récords the audio from the keyboard)
      Then make a midi track to capture the midi notes you play. (This only records the midi notes you played)
