Two simple ways to record and playback MIDI data in Pro Tools, using either a combination of MIDI track and Auxiliary Input or using an Instrument Track.
I'm watching ALL of your vids. Your explanations of MIDI saved my sanity. Best stuff on Pro Tools that I've found out there and I've been on a quest. Super practical. Do you still teach the full Pro tools course? I'd take it if you were teaching. I bought a full home studio and I don't want to waste time if I can help it. The utter lack of bullshit is admirable in all your vids. Thanks Scott.
@@scottwolfguitar have tried that, I drag a ‘groove’ from the superior timeline but it won’t place the whole ‘groove’. Also still a bit confused about what kind of tracks I need for the superior to show up on the list
You’re the second person to ask. I’m going to do a short video on superior drummer. But just so you know, xpand has some drum loops built in, you might find something you like out of Beats too, and the new one pro tools has is cool too. I think those three just come with PT. Whereas superior doesn’t.
I am doing everything in your video, but I think the connection is not establishing correctly on my end. I am using "Pro Tools First" and have my 2 tracks set up the same way, but when I add MIDI data, no sound. Sending MIDI track to VI track, using Xpand! since it is my only instrument option. I tried drums, organ, synth - all no levels reading on my VI track. I have to be missing something - please help I'm going crazy.
Midi instruments won’t work on an Audio track. Make a stereo instrument track then place the instrument plugin there. Record enable it to hear your input. That help?
@@scottwolfguitar Dude 1st off thank you for a quick reply. 2nd off - and this is for anyone as "inexperienced" as I.... My interface drivers were out of date, and I use that as my stereo output for my monitors. Thanks again Scott - now your video has helped me :D
@@scottwolfguitar gotcha , in my first few days in PT spent 20 years in about every other daw. I arrogantly thought this would be a little smoother of a transition 😂 but I’m getting there , thanks for the vid

Thank you sooooo much! You saved me so much time and your video/lessons are easy to follow and you don't go too fast. AGAIN ...THANK YOU!
My pleasure!
Thanks a lot
Your videos are best on protools
Finally ! Only Video that showed it properly thanksssss
Glad it helped!
Thx
Thanks. Long time Cubase but need to learn some protools things for a project, very helpful!
Awesome. Thank you !!
Great !
Super informative, to the point - well done! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Aux sends and midi have mystified and perplexed me for some time. I use PT’s exclusively and this was indeed very helpful. Great explanation.
So happy to hear that!
@@scottwolfguitar If you have or could do a demo on using Unison midi chord pack that would be great. The next frontier..
This was so helpful, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great videos man, thanks! Can you do one explaining
ProTools with Superior Drummer 3?
I’ll think about it! I don’t do anything crazy with Superior. Mainly just drag and drop.

Can you make busses auxes and sends too and can detect and make a effect?
Hi I'm looking to add some midi drums to my music do you have any video tutorials on that and setup?

When I try this I have to record enable an instrument track to hear the plug in?
Yes, that’s what tells PT which midi instrument to use for playback.

It’s not perfect, but editing in PT makes it all worth it.
