  • How do you put a 3-month long project into a single video? Look at this masterpiece, hand-made by Daniel Casey of Casey Arms. In this video, Daniel walks through the tedious process of creating a fully functioning Flintlock Long Rifle. You could consider this as an heirloom piece, as it contains some unique items the customer wanted to be included in the finished Rifle. I really enjoyed making this one, and I hope you enjoy watching this process. Enjoy!!

This young man should be paid at least 1 million dollars for every gun he makes. I am almost never impressed, but this level of craftsmanship from forging, woodwork, all of it, and don't forget, a true artist can visualize the finished product before he ever starts. As a shade tree mechanic, home fix it guy, self taught welder, all around do it myself guy, I have tears in my eyes at this display of excellence!

Been doing gunsmithing since the early 90s. But I did learn a few things here. Never seen one use a cold chisel to open up a dovetail like that! Overall you have a way with hand tools that definitely puts you in the Master Gunsmith class! Only hand tools can create a gun with soul.

That touch of making the trigger guard out of an old hammer was really something. A grandfathers tool lives on in another form. Bet ol granddad would be proud. That is a fine rifle. Love that little tool to mark your barrel tennon hole location. Simple but effective. Also fine clean inletting job on the lock recess. Not too much but enough for a good fit. You did a fine job...

That is one more piece of artwork and buddy I would like to be the first to shoot that thing. No matter how beautiful it is it was made to be shot not just stuck on the wall to look at. If you were going to do that there would have been no sense in putting a rifled or a smoothbore Barrel on it. Absolutely amazing!

I love watching a Craftsmen figure "It Out", build the tooling, whatever, DARN GOOD JOB! Darn nice chunk of timber! Dig on the notching system's simplicity, effectiveness, with the Fearlessness! as you Get After it! Dig the alligator clips! I always chase and cuss! Nice SHOP too! FYI grew Up with a hack Saw just like yours, started as a Sparky "cordless" just like yours, then I got a Lenox! Game Changer. AND I see you "engrave" TOO! I do knott nor wish to.
but I Inherited a Strange Tool? Took my about 5 to 7 YEARS! to figure it out. I thought it was a giant mortar pesto kinda thing. "I Have" a a cast Iron Concaved and Convexed engravers vise holder tool for moving your work in 360 rotation with about another 60 axis side to side it's about 120 lbs or more? know anyone who could put her to a good use? I know the buddy who left it to me would like to see it keep working!
never built a ground up Stonner? but WHY NOT? did 1st kit at 12 in 77, and DIY my consumables. I was already planning a forge oven for case hardening?
Smitty work in in the Family Blood line, I already did a few yrs OJT in Forges and Foundries. Me thinks a 45 same as my capper revolvers?

Yuppers that's how it's done. I've seen a few real builders in my time . Every gun is different and has a personality of their own. What most people do not know though. Is that rifles were not common. Most folks couldn't afford them in the first place. Powder and lead were hard to come by and very very expensive. Most towns owned the guns the deputy's carried. 97 out of a 100 people did not own or have access to a gun. And those that did own a gun owned what's called a "Fowler"...!!! It was a smoothbore. It could be used for a shotgun or rifle. Birds or deer. That's true history, not "Hollywood bullshyte. Contrary to the movies where everyone had a pistol and rifle and horse. And most flintlocks were not 50. or 54. or 62. They were 32. And they too were smoothbores. My Fowler was handmade by Gobblerknob. And it was pricey. But it's a gun that will be handed off to many generations. You get what you pay for. And if you don't believe what I've said "Google it"". The Government had guns; towns had guns. But your average person did not. Guns and ammo were extremely expensive. Peace.
