CHI (チ), a performance with the Roland SYSTEM 100 semi-modular analog monosynth from 1975. I'm using the Roland Boutique A-01 Controller+Generator to both trigger the gate of the Model 104 Sequencer and to maintain sync between the System 100 and an iPad running Zenbeats, for its CR-78 based drumkit. Model 103 Mixer provides spring reverb and is connected to the BOSS RE-20 SpaceEcho. Live performance captured with Roland GO:Mixer.

What is the weird pulsating fire thing in the corner? LED candle? This sounds amazing. Are you in Japan? The Roland System 100 is in very good quality. It looks almost mint. It looks like a complete system.

It’s just a lava lamp, also big in 1975 lol. I’m in the USA, though I had to get two pieces of this from Japan. It is in great shape, no corrosion or missing pieces, and remarkably stays in tune very well. It is technically not complete: there was also a pair of 3.5watt speakers, Model 109. They look great, but can’t be very loud and are terribly expensive now. And I wouldn’t use them if I had them. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Your 100 demos sound really different compared to the others I've heard. I'm not sure I would've recognized the synth without a visual.
Yours even have a sort of ARP-ish buzz distortion going on. Is that buzz from FX or is it from the synth?

No effects or post processing other than the 103 reverb and the Space Echo pedal, just straight into my iPhone. Perhaps it’s just more raw than other demos? But it’s probably just my patches, combined with the weird way I run the outputs into the 103 mixer. IOW, maybe I’m doing it wrong lol but I love it. Hopefully not an indication that something’s going wrong in the synth itself.
