Color me shocked (and thankful)! I came here after trying to do a simple RAM upgrade by adding a new 16GB RAM stick to my Lenovo tower PC to bring it up to 32 GB. I have done this dozens of times on other PCs for myself and others with no issues. This time, however, the new memory card caused total boot failure with beeping and flashing error lights. Could not even get into BIOS. I reseated the new RAM module with the same result. I swapped the old and new RAM in the original slot and the new RAM worked perfectly. I swapped slots with the old and new RAM with both plugged and hard fail again. At this point, I started searching for help and found this video. It was concise and well done but I thought it was redundant to what I had already done. Then I read the comments and person after person reported that the compressed air fixed the problem. Being the "wise, old" person that I am, I discarded this info since this PC is very clean and I have NEVER had dust cause a RAM slot failure in almost 40 years of PC build and repair work. BUT, I am not totally STUPID and I am capable of learning so I thought maybe it's worth a try. I actually did not have a compressed air can but used a camera lens air bulb to puff some air into the slot. To my amazement, this simple procedure did fix the issue. There must have been the tiniest spec of dust in that 2nd slot and it caused the error even after multiple plugging and replugging. Wow! Thanks for taking the time to post this video and teach an old dog a new trick.

@@jrmartinez1354Nice I’m going to ask Jesus to help diagnose if my issue is with the PSU compatibility or the DIMMs being seated correctly with no dust in the slots.
So after checking if each 4 of my ram sticks work, checking the BIOS version, thinking its a power issue, struggling for 2 hours! all I had to do WAS BLOW ON IT???!!! Everything works now, thanks mate
If you had higher frequency ram before, you might wanna get one stick and boot into bios and then look at the new ram's frequency and change it. That was my issue and i got that solves
What helped for me is cleaning the RAM sticks' gold contacts with alcohol and cotton. Before only 2 sticks would make my PC boot after applying that cleaning ,ethod it worked.
I had the same issue when I went from 16 to 32gb of ram. Take your CMOS battery out and hold down the power button to your PC for about a minute or so. That, or bridge the two pins with something metal like a screwdriver. With all sticks of RAM installed, put the CMOS battery back in, and start it. This fixed my issue. OR Try to disable the XMP in bios using the old sticks, then install the new Sticks, then re-enable XMP.

Im so stressed rn. I'm trying this tomorrow morning. Maaan, everytime i buy usedbit perfectly works in their place, then something goes wrong in my place. Feeling cursed.
Here's another solution that worked for me but isn't anything physical. I upgraded from 2x8GB sticks 3200mhz to 2x16GB 3600mhz. I had to boot into the BIOS (Spam the DEL or F2 key during boot up) and enable XMP. Hope this helps someone else.
I had two ram sticks installed for a long time wanted to install 2 additional sticks but the PC would always turn off after a few seconds and turn on by itself repeating the process. I narrowed the problem down to the first slot(at least I think so), and decided to only use 2 sticks, however now the PC does the exact same thing no matter how many sticks and which slots I use, any advice? I desperately need it
Try looking into the settings for the RAM in the BIOS, if you can get to it. If not, try resetting the CMOS (you take the coin battery out of the board temporarily and then add it back, I don't have a tutorial on this yet but you can look it up)
@@AyCartii If after a RAM installation, your computer started beeping/looping/failing to boot, that means something's wrong, either at least one of the modules and/or slots are bad, typically. In the BIOS, though, underneath wherever the RAM settings are, you can check the timings and speeds it is set to. Make sure they're the same as your RAM's manufacturer's specifications. If they're different, this can lead to boot failures.
@@Torqcx Well thank you for your quick response, the problem is that I don't get that far. It just turns of and starts again, can't get into the boot menu. I assume the motherboard is the problem but it worked just fine before I tried just one stick in slot 1, now any combination isn't working
@@IchKuchen Try clearing the CMOS, this is done on the physical board itself which manually resets the BIOS's settings and preferences back to default. After doing so, try again with just one module of RAM at a time. It sounds like the timings and/or speeds may have changed when the new module(s) were installed, but one of them perhaps isn't playing nice with the others.
Comp wouldn’t boot up, but I could access bios. I changed everything to default & then windows started up. Then I went back into the bios and enabled XMP. Windows works fine now & it shows XMP enabled :)
This is what i did to get mine to boot well first off it already booted and worked fine before i added more ram so ik it was the ram i took it out booted back up but to get it to work with new ram i had to go into bios and turn off xmp then turn off computer install new ram after it booted into bios again turn xmp back on now everything works as should.
For some reason, I couldn’t change anything in my Gigabyte Bios. But after I unplugged the battery for 20 seconds, with no power cable and turned on my PC with all 4 Ram blocks. It worked perfectly 🙂
I've tried upgrading to 2 x 16gb 3200 ram sticks. I had 2 x 8gb 3200 in, I tried having all 4 in, wouldnt boot. Tried just the 16s, wouldnt boot. went back to the 8s booted fine. replaced the 16s and tried again and it wouldnt boot even with 1 stick. both sets are same brand and same clock speed. corsiar vengence pro rgb DDR4. the 8gb work in all 4 slots but the 16s not in any.
I’m in a unique situation, all RAM works in each slot 1-3, 2-4 etc but PC won’t boot up if I put the extra 2 sticks in. Will boot with 2 but not 4…I don’t understand it.
Are there any other possible causes for this ram boot-up failure besides these ones? Like for example, having multiple antivirus installed and running in the pc?
I've never heard of software of any kind causing a failure to boot, as software being loaded requires the OS it is installed on to be loaded initially.
This shit happened to me over night. Cleaning the slots or switching the RAM sticks around doesn't seem to fix it. I assume both the RAM sticks just decided to die overnight for some reason?
Either that or the slots in the motherboard have died, that actually happened to me many years ago. You'll have to test each module in each individual slot to rule it out.
If none of them are working in any of the other slots, most likely the slots are faulty. If cleaning them out didn't help, it may be time to replace the board.
@@hamdighost I blew compressed air into all 4 slots, and I wiped with 90% isopropyl alcohol and they still are having issues.. 2 are working fine, but my other 2 are not, and we've tried everything so I'm kind of at a loss :/
Clear your motherboard's CMOS (there's usually a jumper and coin battery you'll have to unplug and replug, but you'll have to look at your motherboard and/or it's manual to find where they're located). Afterward, plug back in the old RAM and go from there
it was the dust... I panicked after cleaning my pc and it won't turn on, I tried brushing the ram stick and there it goes, a cloud of dust formed and after installing it, it worked LMAO
Thanks but my issue is my DDR5 get stuck after restart, RMA'd my Ram kit got a new kit without explanation. Meets QVL mobo list and not sure why Expo 1 CL30 6000MHZ or Expo 2 CL 40 5600 doesn't work 🤔
So basically my problem is one of the slots is not working and every time I plug any kind of RAM stick in it the screen goes black I think the problem might be not from the motherboard but from the CPU itself because it has an accident, could it be that case.
I don't believe the CPU would cause an issue like that, it sounds like it is the slot in the motherboard, especially if you already attempted to clean it out
@@Torqcx I really hope what you are saying is exactly my case because if not I would be buying a whole motherboard and wasting the last bit of my money without actually fixing anything, maybe buying a motherboard with 4 or 8 slots will be reassuring to me, and sorry for mumbling so much I just want to know my problem and how to fix it, I really wish if there was some kind of program that tells you if the problem is from one component in your PC, anyway there is something that made me think the problem is not from the motherboard but from the CPU because when I plug the RAM stick in the second slot I don't just get a black screen the fan of my CPU doesn't start rotating either.
When I was installing my ram I accidentally pushed to hard it cut my finger and there was blood spit on the rams( the motherbored is fine), I don't know what to do about the rams now can someone help me
To those who couldn't figure out was wrong here's what worked for me: Do the dust cleaning, and if that doesn't work go into BIOS and turn on/off XMP. Now boot with the new ram and BOOM. It worked for me.
Interesting. I solved such an issue simply by booting to BIOS, after my PC wouldn't boot up with my old RAM stick either and I had reinstalled the newly bought pair of 16 GB sticks. I still don't know WHY that worked, or why aren't any of the tutorials covering that trick. Sure, I hadn't secured the new sticks properly the first time, but after I had, it still wouldn't work before forcing it to BIOS. So much for the practicality of PC building 🙄. Now I'm afraid of further upgrades that I've had in mind.
@@Torqcx yah that’s was also my thoughts as well but putting a new motherboard in resulted in same issue. Tested a buddies cpu and solved the issue though.
My pc used to work without issue, but since I returned from a trip, it began randomly experiencing boot failures (as in I could not even get into BIOS), but it would usually randomly work again after I do some random sh1t to it and restart a few times. But now it really can't boot no matter what. During my trip, the humidity levels back home was way high, to the point that the walls are wet. I think that may have caused some problems??? Also I bought a possibly sketchy new monitor with a possibly sketchy displayport cable. I heard that a faulty pin 20 can cause boot issues, but I still can't boot even after switching to hdmi so that can't be it right? The debug led on the motherboard indicates that it's the dram that's the problem, but idk. My motherboard is asrock b760m rs/ds wifi, ram is pny xlr8, gpu is rx6600.
You can also try resetting the CMOS, look up how to do that but basically you just take out the coin battery for a few seconds and put it back in. Often times this can fix BIOS/motherboard issues.
I just bought new 2x8 gb ram 3200mhz ( match with my cpu and motherboard for sure ) i tried a lot tutorials but i can't fix my black screeenwhen i put back my old ram 2x4 gb ram 2666mhz works good...what should i try ( i tried reseting bios and putting off cmos battery, not help ) ??
Try the modules one-at-a-time in each individual slot; if, in no matter what configuration any of them are in, the PC still fails to boot, that means either the motherboard is not compatible with those modules or they both happen to be faulty (though the latter is unlikely).
I wouldn't boot after adding an extra 16GB of RAM(2x8). They were the same sticks but all 4 wouldn't run at XMP settings and I had to lower the speed. But I was also able to lower the latency as an offset.
Quick question, i installed two RAM sticks, and now my main SSD/local disk has lost some free space it was 115gb free now it's 90gb free i suspect it's the new Ram(s) that are taking the Vram space? Can we allocate them into my hardisk, the other local disks instead of the main memory? Hopefully i am clear? Thank you.

The issue I have is that pc turns on the 1st time i put ram in, it says 32gb now (31.1 usable). I play cs and stuff for 2-3 hours and then turned off pc. Next time I turned it on it doesn't boot, wtf.
Start by cleaning out all the modules and resetting the CMOS, see if that fixes anything. If you've correctly troubleshot everything and the error persists, the modules may have died.
I got this problem but dont know how to fix, I installed 32GB RAM (4 sticks) and use PC for hours then it suddenly restarted. From that moment I can't install more than 2 RAM sticks, if I do that the mainboard emit an orange light on DRAM sections. Been trying to fix for 2 days and still can't resolve the problem. Please help me. I'm using Asus B760 TUF and x4 HyperX 2666 8GB and I'm pretty sure the problem is not come from other parts. Thank you so much!!!
Very likely it's an issue with either the RAM modules or the slots they're in. If you've already blew out the slots for dust, reseated the modules, and reset the CMOS on the motherboard, there unfortunately isn't much left to do except troubleshoot whether it's the modules' or slots' fault. If any of the modules went bad, replacing them should solve the problem. If it's any of the slots, the motherboard would need to be replaced if you were otherwise unable to increase your RAM capacity with the one you currently have.
I just built my pc all new parts but the ram will not working in proper slots and only 1 stick works in b2 and if i use the consair ram i just bought they work in b1and b2 but not where they supposed to work. And when i load up cant run any games it instantly crashes. Dram light is on motherboard when i try to put ram in any other slots
If after resetting the CMOS you still cannot get any of the RAM to work in those slots, the board may be defective. If you built everything new, you should be able to get it replaced.
Added additional ram- Bios started beeping. Solution: Disabling quickstart in Bios and in Windows , before installing additional ram , solved it for me.
I’ve had 16 gb for a while and tried to but 2 16 gb sticks in and it turned on but no display and flashing orange light on motherboard, switched it back and it worked fine idk what’s wrong with the 32 gb ram I just got.
It's always recommended to take all the necessary precautions before making adjustments to your system's hardware, but that being said, I've been guilty of my laziness overcoming me and leaving the power cable plugged in and/or the switch on while I performed certain installations.
I'm so confused rn. My pc didnt boot, and i found out its cause of the ram, so i bootet it with just one ram stick, and it worked good, then i bootet with the other one and again all worked good. The summary is that i SHOVED THAT BULLSHIT RAM IN and restarted, didnt work again. But, i put both out and in again, it suddently worked. Idk why but it works now👍
Using 4x16GB XMP 6400 won't work (long boots and blue screen crashes) so motherboards with 4 slots is pointless. Go 2x32GB in slot 2/4 if you want 64GB.
Start by removing the RAM and cleaning the slots. If, after re-insertion, your system still doesn't boot up, clear the CMOS (I currently don't have a video on the topic but there are plenty you can watch here on CZcams on how to do that), and try booting up again. If none of that solves the problem, troubleshoot each slot and each module, one-at-a-time, to determine whether any of the slots or modules went bad.

Without more information, I cannot determine whether the issues you've been having are RAM-related or not. If you've already troubleshot the RAM and are still having the same issues, you will have to start testing out the other components and/or software. Good luck!

My ASUS motherboard only likes the RAM that came with the board, 2 sticks of 1G that have cooling loops on top of them, sticks of 2G that work in other computers will not allow the computer to boot up, any ideas?
If the sticks (modules) that don't work are the exact correct specifications your motherboard specifies it can handle, and they work in other systems, try resetting the system's CMOS and try again with the modules. If you still don't get any luck, those modules may just not like that board.

It's possible the teeth of the RAM card became damaged, but I'd first start but blowing out the RAM slots in the motherboard. It's likely dust/debris got in there and is disrupting the contact between it and the module
@@Torqcx I did not expect that fast of a reply. Wow thanks. But after some troubleshooting it’s most likely the actual stick of ram itself as I moved a different stick into that slot and removed the one that I was having problems with and it boots up straight away so I either damaged it somehow or it was already a bit damaged when I got my pc. Edit: after looking at the stick of ram I saw a scratch on it. Is it possible that the scratch is the problem or is something different. Either way imma buy a new stick of ram but thanks for the advice. Edit 2: some how I have managed to get all ram sticks working again somehow. I had 2 ram sticks and my pc was working fine. I bough the exact same replica and put 4 in and now my pc starts but it dosent boot up. My cooler is to big to keep taking off and putting back on. Any ideas?
You would have to troubleshoot each individual slot and each individual module if you'd want to completely rule out what is causing the system to fail to boot. Unfortunately there isn't really another way to do this.
@@Torqcx i fixed it. i removed my large cpu cooler and i took each ram stick out and placed it back in one by one. i did this over and over again and on my last try i placed all 4 ram sticks in and told myself if it doesn't boot I'm finished trying and it booted up. @@libanarab5883 As long as your system can successfully boot with all the RAM, it shouldn't be overworking it; the fact that the fans sound louder now is a new one to me, though. All-in-all though I honestly wouldn't sweat it, the system may just be attempting to compensate for the extra power it is now supplying to the additional hardware installed.

So my pc will only boot up with one stick on the fourth dimm slot and if I put ram in the other dimm slots it has an ab/a6 error on the motherboard display does anyone know what the problem is?
If you already tried cleaning the slots out, and tested each RAM module you have in each slot individually and you still are not having any luck, the slots may be bad and the board would have to be replaced if you'd want to make use of them.
Or another problem if it’s a ram stick issue, make sure it’s completely plugged in and snapped in and cleaned. I had mine halfway plugged in for like a couple of years until recently. I had problems with it and I figured what it was not snapped in.
Hi, I changed my CPU and when I attempted to boot up, I had a black screen. Changed and swapped the RAM and system would boot up if I removed the RAM out of slot 4, leaving 1 RAM stick in slot 2. When I powered off, put the RAM stick back in slot 4, along with the RAM stick in slot 2, it wouldn't boot up again. Any advice please?
First reset the CMOS (search up your motherboard on how to do it, basically you're just setting the BIOS back to default which should clear any errors that may have been brought up from the new installation). Then try each module out one-at-a-time in each slot to determine whether any of the modules or slots are bad.
How did you fix this issue? Currently having this problem. 2x8 16gb ram works but 2x16 doesn't. When I put only 1x16gb ram, it boots up again. It's weird.
I bought 2 ram sticks for my pc and tried to install both and removed the old but now it won’t boot even up when I put the old ram stick in the same spot
Start by resetting your system's CMOS (every motherboard is a little different but you basically take its coin battery out for a few seconds and put it back in. Look up how to do this if you're unsure).
So my new ram I got I have 2 slots in my mother Board. The old one had 1 ram module so I removed it and installed the 2 new ram modules and now my pc won’t turn on. But when I use the old one it works?
Try resetting the motherboard to its default settings before installing the new ones. Try clearing the motherboard's CMOS. Also of course try installing one of the new modules at a time to see if either of them are causing the issue.
@@Torqcx so I reset the cmos had the bios reset to default and tested each ram stick they both work but when they are both in they don’t work? Is there something I haft to enable?
I was wudering my ram slots B1 and B2 do not work but my A1 and A2 do work so I was wundering if it is possible to change A1 ram slot to be B2 so that I can run dual channel
You can swap the modules around however you'd like but there isn't a guarantee you'll get dual-channel. If a slot is broken, unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done
It sounds like the system is turning on, but failing to boot. You can start troubleshooting by cleaning out all of the slots, trying each module in each individual slot one-at-a-time, etc.
@@Torqcx I was able to get it, instead of where the old ram sticks were, they needed to be in the other two slots. Which is weird because my pc booted up when the ram sticks were placed in the slots where the old ram was. It was when I restarted it that caused the issue. Now everything is working fine thanks for the video and the help and the fast reply :)
If after resetting the CMOS you still have no luck, with any module in any slot, the motherboard may be defective. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do other than replace the board, in that scenario.
Make sure you check each slot individually first, then start adding additional modules and see if there's either any specific slot that's not working or if it's a combination that is causing the failure.

If you’ve told one lie, stolen anything, or lusted (which is adultery of the heart), you’ll be found guilty on Judgment Day and end up in Hell. But there’s good news: Though we broke God’s Law, Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, perfectly kept the Law, fulfilling all righteousness. He paid the fine for sinners ( that we could never pay ) by suffering and dying on the cross-absorbing the wrath of God that we deserve. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Then Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses. Today, repent and trust Jesus; God will grant you forgiveness and the gift of eternal life. God blessss

Did u fix it? It's happening to me too
Ok just fixed it flip the thing around and push it until the latch clicks then bam magic

Im so stressed rn. I'm trying this tomorrow morning. Maaan, everytime i buy usedbit perfectly works in their place, then something goes wrong in my place. Feeling cursed.
Make sure they're seated completely that'd probably most people's issue
Hey man thank you for describing every possible thing.i was freaking out cause 2 didn't turn on or boot up.Thanks
Its not even booting to the bios
I got 3600mhz 2×16 as well
Hello i. Currently having this problem it works with 1 ram but with 2 theres no display, should i enable xmp in bios with 1 ram then add the other?
Had a very similar issue to this, had to do with the XMP setting in my BIOS. Thx for the guidance!
If not, try resetting the CMOS (you take the coin battery out of the board temporarily and then add it back, I don't have a tutorial on this yet but you can look it up)
i’m having this exact same problem. what settings in BIOS would i need to check and what should it say?
It can also be a missing pin on a AMD CPU. Happened to me. Replaced the pin and worked fine. Check the corners well and look close. Its easy to miss.
I’m having the exact same problem. Did you ever find a fix?
Same issue here with my 16gb 3200mhz ram😢
Same here
Did you fix this issue?
Nope. Gonna try some other things when i next try and replace them
I’m in a unique situation, all RAM works in each slot 1-3, 2-4 etc but PC won’t boot up if I put the extra 2 sticks in. Will boot with 2 but not 4…I don’t understand it.
For AMD sometimes you have to rest it so the bios takes the new ram. That's what I'm looking for but he didnt mention this at all.!!
Are there any other possible causes for this ram boot-up failure besides these ones? Like for example, having multiple antivirus installed and running in the pc?
I've never heard of software of any kind causing a failure to boot, as software being loaded requires the OS it is installed on to be loaded initially.
Very Unlikely because antivirus software need the computer to be booted to start working
Very useful, thank you for the tips! 🎉
Very helpful.. thanks buddy
Bro is giving me mini heart attack every second 😂
Thank you I didn't know a bit of dust could do that, I've narrowed it down to 1 slot that is the issue, just need to get some compressed air
My problem is that all my ram work perfectly in 1/8 slots but all the other slots they don’t work in.Please help me.
If none of them are working in any of the other slots, most likely the slots are faulty. If cleaning them out didn't help, it may be time to replace the board.
THE DUST... it was the damn dust, thank you so much ❤️
What was your pc doing before you removed the dust? Was it not booting or?
@@gabbiecanepa6981 Yup boot failure most of the time, and low gaming performance. Cleaning the slots fixes everything.

Great vid brother!
Tried and replaced. Had the problem of no display or mouse. Tried the old ram cards that worked before and still no display
Clear your motherboard's CMOS (there's usually a jumper and coin battery you'll have to unplug and replug, but you'll have to look at your motherboard and/or it's manual to find where they're located). Afterward, plug back in the old RAM and go from there
Other problem can happen
1. Due to CPU
2. Bios problem and need to replace Bios
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Nice and easy. You saved me some money thank you!
Thank god this “tutorial” works. My new ram wouldn’t work in the spot next to my original ram so I just moved it one spot over.
It was dust, what a scare. Thank you for the video.
it was the dust...
When I was installing my ram I accidentally pushed to hard it cut my finger and there was blood spit on the rams( the motherbored is fine), I don't know what to do about the rams now can someone help me
Try cleaning the teeth gently with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. Wait for it to try, then attempt to reinstall.
To those who couldn't figure out was wrong here's what worked for me:
Do the dust cleaning, and if that doesn't work go into BIOS and turn on/off XMP. Now boot with the new ram and BOOM. It worked for me.

Are you puttiong it back in the old slots and the same order? Some motherboards are very sensitive to even the smallest changes.

Now I'm afraid of further upgrades that I've had in mind.
what about if B2 and B1 work with all ram sticks but A2 and A1 wont work with any, could it potentially be a bad memory controller on cpu?
It sounds like slots A1 and A2 are bad. If cleaning them out doesn't do anything you may need a new motherboard.
@@Torqcx yah that’s was also my thoughts as well but putting a new motherboard in resulted in same issue. Tested a buddies cpu and solved the issue though.
Mine, only boots up when 2 RAM are installed, when I remove any of one RAM, it won't boot up, why is that?
Check your motherboard's manual to see if there's a specific configuration required (a certain slot) for only having a single module of RAM.
I have not tried cleaning ram or ram slots, so I will do that tmr.
I am considering sending the PC to repair at this point...
You can also try resetting the CMOS, look up how to do that but basically you just take out the coin battery for a few seconds and put it back in. Often times this can fix BIOS/motherboard issues.
You kept me going thanks.
Try the modules one-at-a-time in each individual slot; if, in no matter what configuration any of them are in, the PC still fails to boot, that means either the motherboard is not compatible with those modules or they both happen to be faulty (though the latter is unlikely).
it was the tiny bit of dust. believe me or not. that was the culprit. clean Your bloody ram before you install. thanks for the video dude.

Solution:
Disabling quickstart in Bios and in Windows , before installing additional ram , solved it for me.
I’ve had 16 gb for a while and tried to but 2 16 gb sticks in and it turned on but no display and flashing orange light on motherboard, switched it back and it worked fine idk what’s wrong with the 32 gb ram I just got.
Do you necessarily turn power supply off and unplug all the cables between each swap? Or simply turn computer off?

Start by resetting the CMOS on your motherboard (I currently don't have a video on this but there are plenty of tutorials you can look up).
What if my pc is 1week old, and now not booting and show red dram light ?

Good luck!

First reset the CMOS (search up your motherboard on how to do it, basically you're just setting the BIOS back to default which should clear any errors that may have been brought up from the new installation). Then try each module out one-at-a-time in each slot to determine whether any of the modules or slots are bad.

It could, as long as you make sure they're the exact same make and models. Otherwise it could just be a compatibility issue.
