    The Band Name is not "Ninjen-Isu". They called "NIN-GEN-ISU". "GE" pronounced like "Ge" of "Get". And "NAMAHAGE" is not "Nama-heiju". Called "NAMA-HA-GE". "GE" pronounced like as same as "Ge" of "Get".

    skithee's simple weeaboo version of pronouncing japanese. the easiest starting place is everything is broken into short syllables. usually 2 letters, but 'n' and vowels can sometimes be by themselves, but underemphasized or smooshed into a neighbor. the band name goes NI-n-gen EES-u the song is NA-ma-ha-gay. all Gs are hard. the 'u' at the end of a word is BARELY pronounced. if you look back at band-made, Miku and MISA are pretty easy to figure out, and the rest of the band is pretty similar; Saiki = SAi-key (almost like the english workd pysche), Akane = ah-KAH-nay, Kanami = ka-na-MI (i think) KA-na-mi and ka-NA-mi (almost like the video game company Konami) could also work.
    obviously this is over simplified, and it's not like i speak any actual japanese. finding the right syllable to accent can be tough, and understanding when some sounds are left off or very shortened is weird. but i hope this helps a little or something

    • @cyberpotato63
      @cyberpotato63 Před 3 lety

      Yes, All Japanese syllables are open (consonant - vowel or just vowel) except those ending in "n". No closed syllables ending in a consonant, except that "n" mentioned before.

    • @cyberpotato63
      @cyberpotato63 Před 3 lety

      Only five vowel sounds. (As opposed to 20 different vowel sounds in English)

    • @cyberpotato63
      @cyberpotato63 Před 3 lety

      No accents on syllables. Japanese do not use syllable stress like European languages. However, they do use raised and lowered pitch tone, which will change the meaning of the word.

    • @skithee
      @skithee Před 3 lety

      @@cyberpotato63 sure, but all of that seems a little overboard for soke one that just wants the basics of not totally mangling pronunciations. and okay, there's not accents per se, but there are sounds that are def perceived as accented to a western layman

    The ending of namahage should be pronounced as follows:
    "ha" as we would say "ha" in English (in otherwords, like the last syllable of the name of the motorcycle or musical instruments name Yamaha. It isn't a "long a".
    The "ge" is pronounced like when we say "meh" or "eh" in English, using the "g" as a hard "g", not like a "j". It isn't a long "a" as said by erumi36: not in this word, nor in Ningen (where the last syllable is not pronounced "gain" as he said, but with an "eh" sound.

    • @erumi36
      @erumi36 Před 3 lety

      They say "gain" themselves.
      czcams.com/video/OOnm8ognESU/video.html

    • @markdzima
      @markdzima Před 3 lety +1

      @@erumi36 I see why you might think so from that. However, the long "a" sound in Japanese does not come from an isolated "e" (Japanese vowels are not "a=ah e=ay i=ee o=oh u=oo" as you wrote, but rather 'a=ah e=eh i=ee o=oh u=oo". A long "a" sound comes from combining "e" and "i" as "ei" which, sound-wise is the combining "eh" with "ee". If you try it for yourself, you'll hear "eh" and "ee" combine to give the sound of long "a". Please try it for yourself. Listening closely, what I propose is being heard when he says Ningen Isu is the "eh" sound of the last syllable of Ningen combining the the "ee" sound of of the first syllable of Isu. He is pronouncing the "n" so lightly that it is almost as if it isn't there, and so the "eh" and the "ee" sound a lot like long"a". But if you listen carefully you will hear that there is no "n" sound after the apparent long "a" sound. He is NOT saying "gain". Listen closely. The "n" sound is hiding inside the apparent long "a" sound, and you so there is no "n" sound to be heard following the long "a" sound. The way he is also not emphasizing the "u" at the end of Isu, the sound produced is sort of like he is saying nin-gaze (if you pronounce "gaze" like the English word "gaze"). The Japanese do sometime seem to compress sounds together, the example of "suki desu" being made to sound a lot like "ski dess" comes to mind.

    Nin-gen Isu- pronounced neen-gain Ees as the Japanese heavily clip the u.

  • @erumi36
    @erumi36 Před 3 lety +8

    The G is always hard in Japanese, so it's pronounced Nin-gain like in the word "get". Isu is pronounced Eese like in "geese". The u at the end of words is usually more or less dropped. The creatures are pronounced Na-ma-hah-gay...again a hard g. As you (hopefully) do reacts for more bands from Japan, you'll notice that the five vowels each only have one sound, unlike English, and the same goes for the consonants. a=ah e=ay i=ee o=oh u=oo(like in room)
    Enough Japanese 101 lol. Great review and keep it up!
    Here is the band saying it a few seconds in.

      Also, there is only one vowel per syllable in Japanese. So if you have two vowels together, it will be pronounced as two different syllables. Although that doesn't come into play here.
      The first syllable of each word is also almost always the stressed syllable.

    • @dragonvert3633
