Every time I see an opening ceremony for the Olympics with all the countries gathering together in goodwill, I wish that everyone on the planet could get along with each other every day like this.
Will not happen until dividing factors such as religion and the concept of "races" rather than just the human race, disappears.
Until then there will always be "us" and "them", somewhere.
Yeah, you are right. :(
Unfortunately, even the Olympics aren't as free from politics and bs as people like to think...
@Puro
Admirable sentiments but I don't really agree. Having pride in your country, your religion or even your race is a good thing, (although I personally find it strange to have pride in your race). The problem is not respecting the affiliations and pride of others. I don't want some sort of homogenous, one world govt. type of world. Our differences are a good thing. What would the world be without such things as African American music? Blues, and jazz, and r&b, and rap? Or such simple things as Mexican food or Indian food? Think of all the beautiful Christian art and churches. The Sistine Chapel. The philosophy of Zen Buddhism has influenced millions in positive ways. The key thing is appreciating our differences or at least adopting a live and let live policy. Otherwise we are all just Communist ants.
Plus its just not realistic. People from disparate races and cultures often are quite different from each other. Have you ever met someone from a culture and race, maybe half a world away? The differences are often quite profound.
This games was one of the most memorable for me. The spirit of Lillehammer was something very special. The ceremonies were rich and expressed a joyfulness i found exceptional. Thank you for posting this.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooopoppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
My dad and I camped with a tent during those games.
The last night, before the 50km, we skipped the tent and used only our sleeping bags - in order to be closest to the race. That night it dropped to minus 33C, and guards woke us several times to check upon us.
At 6am an endless line of people started moving through the woods. It's estimated that more than 100 000 spectators surrounded the track.
The coldest weeks of my life, but still worth it. No question asked.

That's awesome. I see a lot of empty seats at the '18 Olympics.
That is a great story and such a great memory for you, I am sure. You will never forget it. :)
Wow man.. Wow..
Such a nice memories you have..
With your dad too..
Precious..
Don't let similar opputunities pass you by if you have a son. Its just as special to do this type of stuff with your own kid.
I had the pleasure of working for the host broadcaster NRK in Oslo/Lillehammer and during the 18 months I lived in Norway I was working in one of the best Olympic Broadcasting Organizations ever. It is a nice surprise to find this special tribute to the great winter games.
Tusentakk kjaere kolleger for kjempefin livet i Norge!
â€â€â€
As a norwegian it is really fun to watch this again. So many great memories, and some bad ones as well :) Weirdly enough, my two best memories isnt even norwegians winning. Its Vladimir Smirnov on 50 km cross country skiing and Dan Jansen on 1000 meters speed skates. Two really well deserved victories, and both athletes were rated very highly in Norway for their skills and personalities. Thanks for the upload.
Also Oksana Baiul in figure skating :)
@@TorAsbjoern Also Gordeeva and Grinkov winning again, after becoming professionals.
My mom and I spent two weeks watching these Olympics. It brings back so many good memories so this will always be my favourite Olympics
They should have it in Lillehammer (or somewhere in Norway) again soon. They're so into it there and supportive of all athletes.
Lillehammer were the greatest winter Olympic ever, Cross Country Skiing is so huge there, I agree bring back the winter game to Lillehammer in 2022.
Shindler39 Itâs in Beijing. A bit ridiculous
Oslo had a bid in and where on the track of winning it aswell but most of the population didnt suport spending billions of dollars funding partys for the ioc.
Tormund Giantsbane Fair enough
There is a big chance of it happening in 2026. As IOC will make rules that Will crack Down on climate etc.
This makes me cry cause i know we never in our life will see so cool stuff like this again :( And will never can go back in time :'(
I was 7 years old, I used to watch the Olympics a lot, its a nostalgic thing for me too. This is my childhood, Lillehammer 94
@@richardbrix6159 i was 9..

@@fn8382 Sant det. Selv husker jeg nÄr jeg sÄ pÄ dette at faren min var der mens mor og jeg var hjemme i oslo Ä sÄ det pÄ tven.
This actually makes me cry. When I think of how things are now and look at this from the past it makes me cry.
I was 11 years old during these olympic games and I still remember their song and how i was watching Biathlon with my granddad. Best olympics in my life.
Nice memory with your grandad, that is great! Everyone has certain good memories about different Olympics for sure. :) Lillehammer was one of the great Olympics though, definitely!
I was 14 and watched the Olympics with my mom. It was so impressive and epic. This games represented the olympic spirit like no other games after and I fear we will never see such great games again.
I was 7 and I remember that after those olympic games I associated winter sports with Lillehammer. So, one year later, when I saw some winter sports on TV, I was disappointed that it's not in Lillehammer. In my opinion, this was the only place where people could do winter sports.
I was just trying to figure out what [folk?] song they're all singing @1:13:00 - I watched these Olympics when young, as well... and it feels so familiar. Were you referring to that music? Or their national anthem?
@@Aelea I mean song: "welcome to Lillehamer, welcome to everyone"
This was an awesome Olympic s The figure skating is something I will remember for the rest of my life
The best memories from the hammer are Dan Jansen's 1000m victory. I still want his autograph! A fantastic sportsman. Best regards from Norway Dan!
I wish I could relive these moments in history..
You know, when the IOC president invited everyone to stand up, I was alone at home, I stood up. These Olympic games are the ones I've liked best.

When Dan Jansen crosses the finishline and raise his arms....I cry. Every. Time.
the last olympics of Gordeeva and Grinkov the legends of figure Skating. Missing this so much!
I remember watching these Olympics with my grandparents, best ever for me...
Olympics in Lillehammer 1994, make me proud to be Norwegian đłđŽâ€
I only hope we can host a new Olympics in Norway agein, one beautiful winter day ââ€đłđŽ
This is first Olympics i remember I was born in December of 87 and kinda remember bits and pieces of the 1992 Barcelona games but this and Atlanta are the two I remember vividly as my first winter and summer Olympics
The gods be praised for this precious gift, the Olympic spirit will live on till the end of time.
There was something so inspirational and beautiful about these ceremonies from the past
Iâm born at 1994 , at that time I was a baby , Now Iâm 27 this year
Oh Gosh ! Time flies so fast
I was born on 1994.

I was very young when i saw it, but always i Will cherrish innmy heart lillehammer olimpic games...Norway always beloved
This was the Olympics that Made me a big fan Of the Winter Olympics.
remember this well, grew up in Norway was 13 years old when this was on, made up dan jansen won the ice skating, his story was so sad, with his sister dying and falling again and again, mad up he won, live in Liverpool , England now, and im not sure we ever see a winter Olympic again like this, if they don't give it too Norway again that is ;)
I kind of love that Kerrigan performed in that dress to a melody of Neil Diamond songs.
Dang this video quality is awesome

So Great! Thanks.
Best Olympic games ever. Full stop!
Please show the whole Lillehammer Olympics 1994 opening ceremony! đâ€
Is one of the greates Opening Ceremony ever!
Lillehammer is the county seat of the area my grandparents immigrated from. Ringebu held several of the cross-country skiing competitions.
Happy 30th anniversary of the lillerhammer 1994 winter Olympics! 1994-2024
Are there documentaries this perfect for all of the Olympics? The stories aren't politically motivated, they're personal, and have you rooting for the champions, and the hometeam, no matter your personal biases. Again: Perfect.
Smirre used to say "jag Àr mycket nöjd " aka "I am very pleased" even when he was 2nd or 3rd :) Smirre will always have a place in my heart
La vittoria della staffetta italiana sulla Norvegia : CAPOLAVORO!! MASTERPIECE!!
woooow
6:26 this will be an emotional opening ceremony remembering 10 years ago
I remember the moment when Vladimir "Smirre" Smirnov won GOLD. It was so deserved and I shed a little tear (and yes I am Norwegian).
Well after the Olympics are over in 1994 some Olympians went onto other competitions like Nancy Kerrigan was on season 24 of Dancing With the Stars. Also Tonya Harding had also appeared on Dancing with the Stars but in season 26.

Olympic, when are you going to add the films for Los Angeles 1984, Nagano 1998, Seoul 1988, and Vancouver 2010? and please add captions to the films
, yes, captions!
They already did
love Olympic Games and sport thank you
The success of the Italian cross country teams looks and smells totally like EPO.
There is no mention of Gordeeva and Grinkov.....seems unbelievable that they would not be referenced since they are the only professionals reinstated who won a medal.
Torvill & Dean and Mishkutenok & Dmitriev were also reinstated and both couples won A medal.
That irritates me because they won their 2nd Olympic Gold here.....A year later Sergei would die on the ice of a heart attack.
penny miller one of the most heartbreaking sports tragedies of all time. But to be fair, when Greenspan shot this film, they had no way of knowing what would happen... there were so many great stories to focus on, and the GG story only became so historic after he died. Their first win was the most impactful, as far as Olympic History goes ...but maybe for us skating people, the second GG win has been more important, because it was a more beautiful skate & program.
The best Winter Games I remember
The was, and still no ones have beat Lillehammer 94!
The occation that made Norway the greatest winter olympic nation in the World since then. Most impressive greetings from your closest neighbor. Johan Olof Koss was my favourite back then.

What about pairs? Where are Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov ? They won their 2nd Olympic Gold here
yes where are they i was sad the pairs wasnt here they should have been
Agreed! Gordeeva-Grinkov would for sure be among my highlights from Lillehammer. IMO they were among the all time bests.
I do love seeing how Norwegian supporters cheer for every athlete. Even as a Canadian and someone who wants Vancouver 2030 to happen, I'd be perfectly OK with the Games going back to Norway. After all, they are the one country where the Winter Olympics matter more than the Summer.
"Egorova may well be considered the best female cross country skiier in history" Marit Bjoergen be like "hold my beer"
Lmao
At the moment it was true. Of course a lot happened in the years to come
That intro though đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
I loved watching these Olympics. Later, I found out some of my Norwegian relatives came from Biri, not too far from Lillehammer
26 years ago.
What an introduction. SKOL Norway! NHL Players there.
I don't really know much about figure skating but the difference between Oksana (sp?) and Kerrigan depended a lot on Kerrigan doing the double flip flawlessly and Oksana doing the triple landing on two feet. Which is better?
Smaller deduction on the triple and the triple was worth more points.
sometimes i think then i thunk.. this is the olympic spirit
When the olympic torch passed through were I live they had to put it out becouse of to manny tunnels :P there's about 16 tunnels on a one hour drive stretch.
