    I am proud of her. 10:54 The London Olympics is the first Olympics in which Korea has appeared in an international competition.

      @@sydyoon 네 검색해보니 1951년에 병으로 사망하셨다고하네요. 그리고 잘못말한게 있는데 한국이 최초로 태극기를 들고 국제무대에 발을 들인건 1948 생모리츠 동계올림픽이였네요. 정부수립 이전이기 하지만 충분히 의의가 있다고 봅니다.

    Fascinating to see Korea participant in olympic for the 1st time.. When Korea Republic was really a union Korea Republic before the separation between North & South

      Actually it was only South Korea that competed in London 1948 and it wasn't until Munich 1972 when North Korea competed in their first Olympic Games, Korea was divided between North and South in 1945 after the defeat of Japan

    Think about the time: 3 years after WWII, India: A young independent country, Germany: Not there, because of the war the country didn't exist. London laid still in ruins after the war...

    So the British once again had the right to be proud when the City of London, the capital of England, had the honor of hosting the Summer Olympics three times in 1908, 1948 and 2012. It was wonderful. England has organized the Olympics in the most thoughtful and effective way. Unbelievable. Congratulations.

    The King (in 1948): "I proclaim open the Olympic Games of London, celebrating the 14th Olympiad of the modern era."

    WW2 put the Olympics on hold. Things were run on a shoestring because the postwar cleanup was still going, earning it the nickname "austerity Olympics". Still, everyone must have been glad to have the Olympics back. Germany and Japan were banned, and I don't think they would have been popular anyway. Japan was a bit upset about it, but Germany took it quietly.

    Out of the 58 countries gathered at this Olympic Games 57 of those countries dipped their flag in the opening ceremony as a salute to the king of England. The United States was the ONLY country to hold its banner true the entire time. When asked why the flag bearer of the United States said “these colors bow to no earthly king.” Greatest Olympic moment in history.

      "Antics"? The contents of the Olympic Ceremonies are prescribed in the Olympic Charter so there is slight variance over the years.
