    I know this is late, but... You know all you have to do is pull up on the overflow reservoir, and it slides out of brackets so you can rinse it out. No weird suction hacks necessary. I have a new radiator in my '92, and an all electric fan swap. One advantage to pulling the block drain is that some rust and sludge can be washed out that won't come out of the radiator drain.

      I also like to use a "T" in the heater lines to back flush the cooling system - and pulling the lower radiator hose off to totally clear out the junk in the radiator.

      I didn’t realize how how easily I could pull up on the reservoir at that time. Another reason this video is titled “(the messy way) lol. I’d definitely like an electric fan swap. I need to look into that.

      @@CruisinMiles I had one like that last year that came out of an 8.2L v8 in our boat. It was so bad that I had to pry it out in pieces. I was surprised it was not causing problems, glad I replaced it at least....

    Great timing, just replaced my original radiator on my '91 and was looking for tips on the flush. I bought about double the distilled and coolant I need, lol! Anyway, always glad to see someone producing good content for the #3femafia, keep it up bro!

      @@CruisinMiles I got the Liland 1469AA2R from Rock Auto, a 2-row all-aluminum, pretty well bolted right in. It helped to have the side brackets on loose until the long vertical mounting bolts were in, made it easier to align for install. HMU if you want a couple of pics. Or moral support on fan removal, lol.

    were did you plug in the garden hose im gonna pull both petcocks on block and rad but my cooling system is a bit different to yours as im also running lpg so i have a few extra hoses running to the lpg converter my coolant is clean but i just want to give it a good flush out to get rid off the rust or maybe find the small coolant leak i have that i think is under the dashboard but i cant track coolant leak down after replacing a heap of hoses and a few welch plugs (ill have to check the gasket on the block petcock as i havnt checked that yet)

    Hey man I changed out my thermostat but I wondering is there a specific way it should be installed ? Like is there a jiggle pin ?

    • @CruisinMiles
      @CruisinMiles  Před 4 lety

      Helixxification there is a correct direction to install it. The short end would be the top. But I don’t think there is a correct rotational position for it.

    Hi dude, how many rows has that radiator? Im facing problems with mi 3fe fj80 with the a/c on, the coolant its not getting cool enough and its boiling... I had replaced water pump, fanclutch (aisin both), radiator cap (original) and also head gasket, but still giving to me problems. I have a 2 rows radiator.

      Raul Martinez not sure how many rows. Have you tried checking the thermostat? Or maybe the temperature sensor that goes to the thermostat housing.

      @@rmp1590 Toyota engineered that truck to cool just fine with stock equipment. You should not need extra rows or extra anything. The problem is that old engines get a lot of build up in the cooling system. This restricts water flow in places within your engine. You need to do a proper flush of the entire system with the right chemicals to open it back up again.

    Good video. I appreciate people doing 3FE videos because there are so few out there. However, you really didn't show much of the work. Also, you didn't flush the system you just rinsed some parts. Also, It's a really bad idea to use distilled water in your radiator. Water is very aggressive at pulling minerals into it. Distilled water has very few minerals so it will take minerals from your engine to make up for that. Distilled water will literally eat your engine block.

    • @CruisinMiles
      @CruisinMiles  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for the constructive words. You’re right, I was actually looking back at this video and I realized I didn’t really show how/where to remove the thermostat or how I removed the radiator hose. I guess it’s more of a journaling of what I did rather than a “how-to”. Regarding the distilled water part, I’ve been hearing/reading opposing sides to this. People saying distilled water isn’t good while others saying distilled water is good. What would you suggest? Flushing with more coolant? Also, how would you have flushed the system?

      @@CruisinMiles I'm a chemist. Not to impress you but to let you know that I know the chemistry of water. Use common city water to flush the system. There's not enough chlorine in it to cause any problems. However, water without ions will dissolve ions from absolutely anything. In this case, your cooling system metal. Again, I appreciate any videos on 3FE's.
