A Polaris 570 is burning oil. Valve stem seals? Let's tear it down and find out.

  • On this week's episode of ‪@3DayWeekend‬, I'll be tearing into Dwight, our 2018 Polaris Sportsman ACE 570 to determine why it is burning oil. It's not burning very much oil, but enough that after 100 hours or so, it is dangerously low on oil.
As my regular viewers know, my son drives this machine and has been slacking in the "check the oil before every ride" department. I'm worried now that my crank may have taken on some damage. I could be wrong, but I'm definitely worried. While it is apart, I will also be inspecting the cam shafts for excess wear which would indicate catastrophic engine damage.
Wish me the best! Let's get into it.

Sportsman 570 engines consume oil.. Ive rebuilt 2 already, First thing that goes is lower bearing on the crank 😢

Yeah, crank bearings are not fun. Fortunately I caught this one in time. We were able to stop the oil consumption completely in a later video. The valve stems were definitely leaking which accounted for the puff of blue smoke at startup. The rest of the oil consumption was from bad rings due to a defective cylinder from the last rebuild. We still check the oil before every ride, but I'm happy to say that neither ACE is using oil anymore! Thanks for watching!

On the ACE 570, the cage comes off, then a bunch of screws hold the box on. A 2008 is completely different though, and I'm not familiar with the 760 engine. If you're talking about the 2008 Ranger RZR 800, the box is held on with some screws around the outside, then 4 big bolts through the bottom of the bed. The cage does not need to be removed on that model to get the bed off. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

The ACE 570's do not have reverse lights. Only running/brake lights.

Did it start burning oil after you flooded it?

Yes. It hadn't used any before that day, but the first service after flooding it, I noticed it was down on oil, and it has done it ever since. So far so good with these new valves and seals!
