Thank you so much! I’m a 73 year old widow who is too thrifty to pay a plumber to do a simple repair of my “singing” toilet. I had the part and then discovered that Toto hides the water line and fill valve connection. I appreciate you providing the answer. Repair is complete and it is successful!

Thank you! I knew I had to replace a fill valve but once I tried accessing it I found out how "lovely" it is to work on this toilette. Thank you kindly for the step-by-step guide!

Fantastic video! I didn't realize I needed to take the tank off but your video explained why and showed how easy that was. Original fill valve lasted 14 years, hope this Toto made in USA replacement lasts another 14 years. Thanks for posting this!

Just rewatched this as the other toilet fill valve just went out today as well. Almost like clockwork, these things can last 14-15 years, amazing. Made in USA!

Don't panic! Taking the tank off is trivial. Wedging your body between the toilet and the wall in futile efforts to loosen the fill valve externally (which is trivial on most other toilets) is impossible. I tried. After several tries with replacing the filler cap and basically cannibalizing a fill valve to replace every component I could without removing the tank - I gave up and removed the tank. I thought it would be a messy chore. It was easy peasy. Once you decide you need to repace the entire fill valve - don't waste time. Go straight to tank removal. Thank you for this video which gave me the kick in the pants I needed. My only complaint is that you skip the whole tank removal process at 5:40 - which kind of scared me a little...why didn.t you show what I thought (to me) the most difficult part of this process? Do not fear- take the tank off!

Thanks for the video. I used it yesterday to replace my fill valve on an ST413 Aquia. I found that I could completely close the little black adjusting valve that adds water to the bowl because the Aquia water spot (I belive that is the term for the surface of the water in the bowl) is self regulating. Running water through the little hose as is done in other bowls does not seem to be necessary, just wastes a little bit of water with each fill. As for comments about Toto quality, this was the first repair the toilet has needed in almost twenty years of constant use.

Thanks so much for this video. I have the exact same toilet. I've replaced the fill valve on other toilets with no issue. Come to to toilet...yikes. I couldn't get to removing the water hose. I didn't realize you need to remove the entire tank! I'll do it tomorrow with a new disc on hand. Very informative video, you saved me :)

Thanks so much for making this video. I have a two piece ST413 that is impossible to change the fill valve without removing the tank. I was concerned that removing the tank bolts would be a difficult procedure, but how you explained they are actually studs from the bottom going into the bowl to be tightened by the bolts from the top now makes it clear it's not that difficult. I wish Toto didn't make their ST413 toilets so difficult to access from below to make changing the fill valve into an hours long process.

The house I moved into had this toilet. I’m somewhat handy and had no idea how to change this valve. Watched this video and had it disassembled and put together in 26 minutes and that included trips to the basement for tools. Didn’t even have time for a second beer 😂.

So well explained! The video emphasizes steps to take in order to remove the valve. I was so upset and scared when one day stepped onto flooded floor and had no idea what caused the leak. In my case a plumber, who replaced galvanized pipes with new plastic pipes a year ago, did not bother to screw in one of the screws in the tank. It just fell out when I touched it. No idea how all these months it held the water. So thanks so much for this lesson!

  • @ushaandmaninderprabhakar2434

Thanks a lot for reminding me the flat screw driver bolts for removing tank. I did it before but forgot how and my bad eyesight couldn't see the screw thread... You saved my day!! This toilet was a nightmare to install that required drilling holes on my hard porcelain tiles, maintenance is even worse with no access from below at all! Value needs to be changed every so often with tank removal. The new Aquia Vi has greatly improvement on the rear access but we need to live with this bad old design for a while..

Also, I now can see it makes sense to have all new gaskets on hand before starting the project - may as well do those at the same time!

Great Helpful video! As noted by Mister Brown below Toto instructions say not to use in tank tablets due to the chemicals affecting the workings of both fill and flush valves. Since you stated your toilet was only a couple years old using the in tank chemicals may have been the reason you had to replace the fill valve so soon.
Just food for thought but again thanks for the very informative video

Following up on this. Turns out it was only my Fill Valve Gasket Cap Seal that was worn out. You can buy the whole Cap for about $6 on Amazon.
You can access the Cap by pulling out the Fill Valve Cover. There are other videos you can search explaining how to replace the Cap. (Maybe you should do one of your own to complete the series?)
If you're having issues with your Fill Valve, I'd recommend checking this out first because there's not much else that can go wrong w/the Fill Valve.
Thanks a lot for the video as it led me to the solution of only replacing the Fill Valve Gasket Cap Seal.

I have not needed to change the flush valve yet, but I believe it is changed in the same way where you have to take the tank off and remove the big nut from the bottom of the flush valve. I have taken the seat off before and it sucks. You have to remove the toilet from the floor if I remember correctly. That's the only way to access it from the rear to hold the nuts for the seat bolts. Luckily, the base seal is reusable and doesn't need to be replaced like a wax one.

I had to replace the flush valve recently and you will need a new Toto part number as the version that is shown in this video is EOSL. Highly recommend replacing all washers and gaskets as this design requires major toilet surgery. Same process - no easy way out. The good news is mine lasted well over 10 years.

Hi there, thanks for the video. We have the exact same toilet, and have had it since we moved into our house. The water level in the BOWL is always very low. And I don't seem to see how we could adjust that on this particular toilet.
Is this model just known to have a very low water level in the bowl or am I missing something?
As a bonus, the bowl seems to fill up the same amount regardless of whether or not the tube is connected to the bowl refill on the flush valve??? However, I can easily confirm there is water running through the line when it is disconnected.
Any help or information would be appreciated.
